Yeah, the LavaBox can output more BTU's but the fuel consumption is where you need to outweigh the actual benefit of those added btu's...
I've got 2 different sparklers fires, I'm drooling for this one. Price is no object when you know you can blast some heat and not burn down the area!! - Not sure where you're based, husband and I have our individual rigs in Fairplay. Thanks for not sharing the trails!!!! We locals appreciate it!!!

Agreed- They should modify the legs to a spindle style you can screw in for setup & stow internally for travel. I’d bet they find a way to reduce the cost in the next gen, when Mike said it was **expensive** I thought he was going to drop an $899 price tag but $1,300 🤯

Yeah, BTU isn't a very accurate measurement of felt warmth. Firecans are cool (I have Lavabox), but they put out heat straight up to be blown away. If there's no wind at all, and you kind of stand above them, and manage to not burn your clothes with the flame moving around - they do put out some heat. Certainly the price is right, and they provide good ambiance - but for actual warmth, nothing touches the Howl currently. Is it worth the price? Eh, to some people, but not all.

I like the Howl, a lot, but with a Firecan with lava rocks there's also emanating heat. I believe the Howl is definitely warmer, just don't know that the higher output is worth 5x+. I only mention all this because overlanding has moved towards a totally inaccessible price point, where costs aren't correlated to expenses, but to the market. I'm certain these guys invested a ton of time and resources to bring this to life, but so did every startup, many of which do value accessibility.

We've been having the full campfire experience in some pretty cool places: the back deck, the trailhead, the ski area parking lot, etc. A buddy in Alabama is about to install one on the deck of his fishing boat. Definitely opens up some options, including the freedom in a burn ban.

Maybe I’ll try it. I’d guess something like that would work, albeit you’d need to be closer and heat would be much higher and it’d be less ideal for warming your body/legs. A little more cumbersome and less effective, but cheaper for sure
Yep, I get it. I'm just saying that if the big selling point of this fire pit is the IR heat, there are cheaper ways to get that radiated heat. One idea is putting cast iron onto any type of fire pit. I just used the propane stand as an example because they are really cheap. @@LastLineOfDefense

I finished paying for mine 2 days ago and had no idea the engineering that went into the making of this product. The info will be good around the Howl unit, explaining to all benefiting from it just how complex the engineering is when designing the unit.
To say that other propane fire pits don’t put out heat, is what you call a “marketing pitch.” What most of those other fire pits actually do, is provide a somewhat natural fire experience, in a more practical and compact form factor…..while giving off warmth in the process. As cool as it is, it’s not very practical for most applications and it’s definitely overpriced in my opinion
Oh yeah - I have rocket style, and the big bucket style ones - but both different concepts and wouldn't really be viable in the same settings. But in a relatively enclosed space, they do work!

The new Ignik Firecan Elite is 50k BTU, vs the Howl at 62k but one is $250, lasts much longer and is much more packable vs $1,300.

BioLites, Solo Stoves, Breeos, etc. solve for some issues. But since they burn wood, you can't use them in a burn ban.
