McCarthy fully understands that Cheney is a genuine threat to his leadership role. The problem is that he doesn't understand that the worse he treats her, the more he "sets hell in her" and makes her even more determined to oppose him. I wouldn't be surprised if Cheney doesn't end up the leader of the party that destroys McCarthy's version of the GOP. There's a reason why there's a saying "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned".
McCarthy wants power but lacks the spine needed to deserve it. That why no matter if he becomes Speaker or not in 2023, he won’t stay in office, because the same people who threw out Liz Cheney will throw him out one day too.

@@Marijuanifornia While that sounds like a romantic fantasy of justice, I'd clarify that it's not exactly wise to take a political system that's dominated by two parties with heavily consolidated power, remove one, leaving a power vacuum for the second remaining one to step in and fully consolidate their authority in the government. At that point, you'll never get them out of there. Yes, those who enabled the January 6 riot to occur need to be tried and face punishment for their actions, before their complacent attitudes become an invitation for those who threaten our democracy to try again.
However, I have a fun solution of my own: dissolve political parties as a concept entirely. Or, at the very least, limit the extent of the power they can consolidate; politicians give lip service to term limits in congress, but I dare anyone to bring up _party membership limits._
