I think the best part of the forestry update is the fact that the trees aren't RNG to despawn anymore. It's on a timer now, so you can actually chop trees alone and not have to worry about 1 chopping a tree and it disappearing.

Some people find the grind fun, he's saying not every new skill has to be minigame levels of enjoyment. A lot of people play this game because they can do it in the side, and a lot of this new content doesn't fit this play style at all. The "not everything has to be fun" was a joke at people enjoying grinding being autistic, etc...
Woodcutting is one of those skills that just absolutely classic Runescape. One of the most popular activities for ppl to hop on and just chill in the game. One of the things that DEFINES osrs is precisely its simplicity, alongside many weird and at times frustrating mechanics, its grindy aspect and unforgiving slowness/test of will for many activities such as for example getting 99 mining, or having to deal with terrible RNG some times doing whatever. All of this adds up to the feel of the game and consequently is what makes it so rewarding when you achieve something, master some mechanic, or when you randomly get super lucky somewhere (or get a streak of luck that blows your mind and everyone's around you). Slowly but surely they've been adding more and more content and pushing "x amount of updates per y amount of time" just because, and many people are like "it's ok, I won't do it so it won't affect me, but at least the choice is there now for those that do". Except it DOES affect you, because all these little updates here and there add up over time and change the game entirely, slowly diluting it into something else. Many say there SHOULD be an option for everyone and it should be made more and more inclusive but I just have to disagree so friggin' hard here it's not even funny. Expanding on the update thing, I just don't agree with having to spit out x amount of updates every y amount of time just for the sake of it as opposed to adding updates when it's merited/someone has a really good idea for the game/when it's appropriate. Quality and thought over quantity on a predetermined schedule. A MASSIVE defining factor of OSRS is that because of all of the already mentioned quirks (and many not), is that the game IS NOT for everyone... and that's fine! It doesn't HAVE to be for everyone! Now I'm not saying the game shouldn't be updated at all, that's not my point, but the game should be preserved, its roots should be respected, the specific demographic/community it's built and catered to for so long, and the direction it takes should carefully factor in all those things. There are a very vocal minority of players who constantly whine and complain about everything and ask for a million updates per week and a large portion if not most of them are either new, barely play the game/come and go, and they haven't even explored most of the content nor care to even in the future, so while they're complaining about 50 things and asking for more updates to do x or y or because they're already bored, yet they've got an account that's only experienced 10% of the game, so more updates won't fix anything and they'll just leave anyway, leaving the main/loyal playerbase with an ever diminishing experience by catering to those who don't really care about the game's longevity. I've met plenty of players who never played RS before and only came after OSRS was released and they absolutely fell in love with the game and haven't stopped since. Heck that's most of my CC as I was recruited into this new generation of playerbase when I came back after a break and met one of them while doing slayer.
All I'm saying is not needing to hop 25 worlds to find empty teak trees is nice. At best EXP rates went up 10k/hr so everyone whining about the "EZ scape" needs to change their adult diaper.
I feel like the "skilling doesn't have to be fun" mindset is very old school and maybe a bit gatekeepy. I think the better question is: Would the game be better or worse if every skill was more fun to train? I think the game is only improved by new training methods that are more engaging. I think forestry is a great update to a rather dull skill. I would love to see something similar for mining. Not to mention these types of updates can help improve XP rates of old skills that are wildly slow to train compared to others.
I don't give a fuck about forestry in general. But changing tress from a 1/8 chance of depletion to a timer is the greatest update woodcutting has ever had.
Pretty solid update imo. A good minority might see fresh updates as a bad thing since it "does not capture the essence of oldschool". But we need to realize that these updates are what makes osrs retain and gain its playerbase. If Jagex does not push new updates, player count will just dwindle slowly. Regarding the forestry update, having more options to break the monotony is better for the overall health of the game. And I guess having additional fun skilling methods are mostly targeted towards Early to Late-mid game players and not really for late game max players.

Nobody mightve asked for it, but it was for sure needed as training woodcutting was straight ass. Now it's atleast somewhat enjoyable and you got friends again too. I've thoroughly enjoyed this update.

Forestry is fine, I kinda hate the timers, vs the old tree mechanics, but it's ok. What baffles me is why they didn't do this to mining instead. Ores despawn on a timer, multiple ores from 1 rock, mining mini-events. That would have been a wolcome update

Personally I hated cutting that blisterwood tree from 80+ and don't want to sweat woodcutting so this makes it chill and faster xp until I can fall asleep at redwoods.
I wish forestry was just trees arent a shared resource and call it a day. We all win and can socially woodcut if desired. The most fun part was cutting magics in myths guild with a mass amount of people adding dog petting into the events that was more fun than the event itself

I met a group of people on w445 that specifically focuses on seers village for forestry which is not a forestry world.. we have an fc w445forestry and its the most wholesome thing ive had the pleasure of being a part of in a very ling time :) also the reason an fc is beneficial is because forestry world have been toxic in alot of the worlds
99 wc was my first 99 back in rs3 I was happy to see a change to it after all these years didn’t even really care what it was it’s new and has an outfit for collectors it’s win win

If Skilling CAN BE FUN then by all means; add methods. Tasty if you prefer chopping and getting logs; go back to the farm guild? Didnt take away your old method or ruin it at all. Seems like you just want jagex to focus on PVM based on your comments. Which... no... thats all they f*ckin focus on... you part of the problem! XD & since u asked for others opinions... I think it is great- it made magics way quicker and more gp/h now, you have more methods for irons now which is always good, and lastly skillers and pures can get lumberjack. This update is 9/10.
Love the vid and I think I understand your point. I believe variety in these mini games are fine as long as they don’t massively grant better xp. You should have the choice of afk, group variety, and a sweaty method like tic manip. The problem with wintertodt and some of these mini games they almost get rid of the sweaty method which I don’t think should happen. Mini games should just be offering variety with a slight bonus in xp because you pay attention more. Not rewrite methods altogether. I feel like gotr did that well, rather than afk bloods to 99 you can pay attention but still be slower than daeyalt zmi, runners/other crazy methods.
0:55 you DO KNOW there are still people who play OSRS like they did in 2008, right? Not everybody plays 10 hours a day and does end game PVM? I'm the only one of my friends that still plays that actually does pvm, all my mates are still out there chopping yews, fishing lobs, and doing Barrows lol

I personally really like the update as it's made the woodcutting grind more interactive which is generally my preferred way to play atm. However I can see that for already maxed players, especially maxed mains this update is inconsquential. Only thing I really don't like is the bee minigame with how ridiculously click intensive it is and I guess I also don't like waiting for the second part lol. Been stocking up on supplies to make into forestry rations for part 2 in hopes the 2h axe is really good.

There should be more uses for gold bars like gold smithing should be another class within smithing where you can make trimmed armour or some shit by combining a bunch of bars of gold together or some shit
