- Having stability issues on your computer especially while gaming? random reboots? computer turns off and turns back on? most probably its your power supply which is faulty, however you should test other components as well like RAM and GPU on another computer. So in this video I show you how to test the voltages on a power supply.

Thank you very much for the explicit video , I watched many videos before this, but your video was the most clear and direct to potential solution.
You are right on the money! I was having this problem and after watching other videos, I was even more confused. It appeared to come down to replacing something and the power supply was a lot cheaper than the other components. I replaced it and now no problems! Thank you as you were right.
Sorry for bother you. But i want to know that your earlier power cable was okay? Though your power cable is okay you use a new power cable? Is it like that?
@@ummehafsa243 Thanks! The cable itself was fine, it was the lack of power causing the problems. One thing I learned...you can never have too much power but lack will cause problems.

So much nerves were lost because of such an issue, and I did suspect that my Power Supply was the possible issue. Your video just futher confirmed it. Big thanks from Russia.

Hey, I hope you were able to fix your PC? 😊
i had this problem it was super random. I tried taking out the ram, cleaned it and placed it back but it still shut down i thought it had to be the power suppy till i tried placing the ram into the two different outlet AND IT WORKED!! THANK YOU!
I've had this issue for a few weeks now and I've gone as far as replacing the thermal paste on my GPU because it hadn't been done since factory. That helped a lot because the original thermal paste was rock solid. Once I put my system back together, it was still doing it. Mine only restarts when I'm playing games which is why I thought GPU at first. I'm going to buy a new PSU and if it works, great, and if not, I'll keep the PSU and start building a new system piece by piece.

You're welcome!
I'm assuming I have the same problem without checking the power supply. I added an extra 1 TB drive and after about 30 minutes the PC will restart itself, but I do not get any error reports, it just reboots. With the extra hard drive disconnected the problem doesn't occur, the extra drive may be too much power consumption for the power supply, not necessarily that it's faulty.

If this does constitute a test under load I just need to find a free Molex connector to perform the test on correct? You didn't unhook anything to get to that Molex connector right?

I have a question,
1)when replacing the motherboard, do you need to remove the components on a laptop?
2)Can I upgrade my desktop computer's RAM with a new RAM which is not designed for it? will it still work?
yes
No
Maybe
Depending on the price range, I think you should get repair if it’s under warranty. If it’s an old laptop I think you should Selvage the hard drive, then get a new one.

Hi. I've been having the exact problem for months now. So I thought that it would be a power supply issue. It was not - the power supply is perfect. I still changed my CoolerMaster 850 watt power supply with Seasonic 850 watt gold, still got the problem.

my laptop randomly freezes sometimes, i happens more with linux but occasionally with windows. can u tell what software you are using to detect the cause of the restarts, it might help me in troubleshooting
So it happens not only on Windows but on Linux as well? Probably your hard drive is dying, it can be something else but I also had a similar problem on my laptop and it was my hard drive which had a lot of bad sectors I cant be sure unless I actually have the laptop in front of me for diagnosis! What you can do is on Windows download this software called HDTune to check if there are any bad sectors on the drive. Do you have a spare laptop drive to swap for time being? that is the easiest way to figure out if something is wrong with the drive.

I use the built in Windows event viewer to check errors and then you can google them to see what they mean.

Few days ago I decided to clean my PC, so I used a blower (I turned off the power and I also didn't touch any equipment, I didn't unplug any wire from GPU, CPU, mainboard etc...) after I finished with the cleaning I came to turn my PC on but it went off right after I turned it on... so I decided to test few things, like I detached the RAMs and changed their places and I also switched the power outlet (instead of using multi outlet I connected PC straight to the outlet) so the thing happened was that PC stayed on for a longer time (few more seconds) but it still went off and turned on again by itself... it's more like a restart loop... rn I connected the monitor but I don't have a screen at all not even mainboard logo and literally black screen...
I too have the same issue.. my pc turns off automatically and starts again.. but in my case, the voltage stays at 12.07-12.10 while playing the game and still turns off.. and the voltage doesn't drop when the system turns off. It shows 12.13-12.15 when idle. What can be the issue here.. please suggest
Might be a long shot, but my PC randomly restarts too, but it could be within a few minutes of being in windows or not at all for hours or the whole day. I'm not doing much on it besides browsing, watching movies and mining when not in use (gpu temp is fine). So for me it doesn't necessarily restart due to high load or anything, but it's completely random. I've already replaced the mainboard and had the same issue. Might look into replacing the CPU just to test.
Could it be the PSU as well? It's actually a decent one (bequiet with 750W).
If you have replaced the motherboard, chances are its the PSU!! I've built countless PCs and never had a defective CPU! its almost always the GPU or the power supply or in rare cases a bad overclock. What PSU do you have right now?
@@TechGuyCharlie Thanks for the response :-) I have a bequiet Straight Power 11 (750W). CPU Ryzen 3900x and GPU is a very new 6800xt. I've read earlier today that at least 650w is recommend so I should be in the green zone. I have done zero overclocking on the cpu, in fact I only placed the motherboard just today, updated BIOS and then set the CPU VCore from Auto to 1.3 (for some reason Auto yields very high voltages on the 3900x...). I always assumed that if the GPU is faulty I'd see graphical errors on the screen and such, but my issue literally is like somebody pressing the Reset button on my PC case for fun to annoy me. Happens completely unrelated to what I'm doing, so it already occured when I'm literally doing nothing but typing a youtube comment like this or being in full idle.
Edit: I doubt it's the RAM, it is running on XMP and memtest86 was fine with zero errors after 2 hours.
@@w3sp Hey man, did you get it sorted? If so was it the PSU? I got the exact same issue you have, it seems to happen randomly once/twice a week, when idle or playing games.
@@w3sp did I literally have the same issue as you I thought it was the PSU so I changed but still nothing. Pleaseeeeee give me an UPDATE.
@@KevinS47 Nope, unfortunately not. I've also reinstalled Windows and also changed stuff around in Windows (e.g. disabling the Automatic Restart on System failure) etc but it's still as if there's a little troll hiding in my room who secretly presses the RESET button on the PC case whenever he's bored. I bought a PSU tester from Amazon and it appeared to be fine, but I'm not sure if those are 100% reliable.
Three days ago I've changed all of the CPU related voltages in BIOS from Auto to Normal. Before I'd either have those set to Auto or Manual (e.g. 1.3, 1.31 or whatever for Vcore). I haven't had a crash yet since I did that but I believe it IS too early to tell whether or not that was the culprit.

my pc restarts by itself when I play fallout 76 or battlefield V. it started doing this when i installed the new nvidia driver last week the 417.35 driver one. but when watching videos in youtube/twitch or any other activity its fine. just when i play games. and recently it is now restarting by itself even when i play low demanding titles such as grim dawn or dragon age origin.

and yes this is a 5 year old pc , just the video card that is slightly new 1 yr old i think. so base on your video do you think by PSU is giving out as well?
thank you.
This is exactly how my restart problem started, first, it used to happen only while playing demanding games but the PC would work fine while browsing the internet then it got worse and it would restart while web browsing when this happens it's usually 99% the PSU!! Whenever I diagnose a problem, I go through the checklist before replacing a part, if you have a multimeter then just measure the voltages on the 12v and 5v rail if you don't then just to be sure that no other component is causing the problem, start with checking all the cables on the motherboard and re-seat the RAM and GPU you might want to run memtest because I've seen PC's restart while because of faulty RAM.. after you are done if it still restarts then its the power supply, I rarely see 80+ Bronze power supplies lasting more than 3-4 years, so 5 years is quite good.
