I think the only flaws I have on this character is that he tends to cause trouble and being a bit close minded of the danger he can cause. Which at least they were able point it out in the movie. But afterwards, he does mature over time and that’s what I’m glad about. I really do think Ahmed did a great job playing his part on Jar Jar. You can tell in the movie that he really put all his effort into bringing this character to life. It’s just awful that the hate towards the character can get ugly to the point where his actor can nearly attempt suicide.

i've been a Star Wars fan since 1995, and I have to say... he's not THAT bad. I actually find most of these scenes funny, though I think the problem is he's in the entire movie. It would have been great if Jar Jar did something clumsy and got held up on Tatooine, and watched the whole Maul Vs Qui Gon battle and basically misses the ship. He goes "WAIT!!!" and then cut to later Anakin walks into the command part of the ship and goes "Where's Jar Jar". Qui Gon and Obi Wan look at each like "Oh Shit" in silence , and YOU NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN FOR THE REST OF THE SAGA. If he were left like some unresolved thread in the Star Wars universe people would've died and called Lucas a comedic genius, I guarantee you a lot less people who hate him and the movie. There would be a running joke "What happened to Jar Jar?"

James Bell Jar Jar helped the plot advance. He helped his cause (even if with stupid battlefield goofs). Rose however... (Canto Bight/them on the First Order ship had zero effect on the story and her stopping Finn from destroying the door laser did nothing). Yes, JarJar served MORE of a purpose than a character written solely to cater to an international audience (which sucks because the actor and international audience deserve better).

i've been a Star Wars fan since 1995, and I have to say... he's not THAT bad. I actually find most of these scenes funny, though I think the problem is he's in the entire movie. It would have been great if Jar Jar did something clumsy and got held up on Tatooine, and watched the whole Maul Vs Qui Gon battle and basically misses the ship. He goes "WAIT!!!" and then cut to later Anakin walks into the command part of the ship and goes "Where's Jar Jar". Qui Gon and Obi Wan look at each like "Oh Shit" in silence , and YOU NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN FOR THE REST OF THE SAGA. If he were left like some unresolved thread in the Star Wars universe people would've died and called Lucas a comedic genius, I guarantee you a lot less people who hate him and the movie. There would be a running joke "What happened to Jar Jar?"

saifblade But since the original intent was for Jar Jar to be comedic relief you have to look at as the comedic relief of this movie. To an extent it’s funny because you think to yourself, Lucas is a racist ass who actually believes this character known as Jar Jar Binks is a hilarious character. The movie itself is still not good with or without him but I will say he’s funny in the sense that this character actually exists and you just poke fun at.
I generally don’t understand why he’s so hated, I find him pretty funny. In fact as the Phantom Menace was exactly the best it wasn’t that bad IMO.
I think it’s the weakest of the six but it’s like an antidepressant.
I've always loved Jar Jar Binks, I was never afraid to state it.

James Bell Jar Jar helped the plot advance. He helped his cause (even if with stupid battlefield goofs). Rose however... (Canto Bight/them on the First Order ship had zero effect on the story and her stopping Finn from destroying the door laser did nothing). Yes, JarJar served MORE of a purpose than a character written solely to cater to an international audience (which sucks because the actor and international audience deserve better).

Darth Jar Jar eventually got in a lightsaber fight with Boss Nass who was actually a Jedi master, BUT there was an explosion that killed Darth Jar Jar and left Boss Nass severely Scared, Boss Nass saw the smoke rising from Gunga City, Boss Nass then Renamed himself Smoke, But because of his thick Gunganese accent, it came out as "Snoke".

He serves what Lucas planned his character for, comedic relief. Lucas just went a little overboard with him IMO.
