"Our show is aimed at the LGBT community, so let's just have our main transgender character vomit out exposition on what a transgender person is to our main character, because that's how good writing works. Tell, don't show, am I right, my dudes?"
I find it kinda depressing that in a show with literal magic as a core concept to explain everything, the Transgender character still can't catch a break as their transformation is only temporary and relies on potions. Like, even in a magical world they couldn't just make it so if someone wanted to change bodies they just handwave it as "because magic" to let them have their gender identify and physical sex match permanently with no drawbacks or maintenance required.
I get it if they're maybe still wanting to represent the struggles of trans people and compare the potion to hormone therapy but if the writers were just a little bit more creative they could have just shown it as a pure net positive. Like when the MC sees an old picture of the teacher and asks "This is you?" the teacher could have just said "Yes, magic is a wonderful thing" and then proceeds to turn into a dragon or something before shifting back to his human form to show how magic lets them go far beyond what their original physical forms could do.
@@caldw615 Thing is, such existing nukes their 'message' into oblivion. If/when similar tech exists IRL, their entire movement vanishes over night. When you can resleeve people for a relatively affordable price, the 'oppression' ceases to exist. It's why they have an active interest in preventing such developments from ever being realized.
The writing also gives the game away as to their real intended end state. It's not equality or acceptance. In such a case the reaction to this reveal would be 'huh' and then the conversation and questioning moving on immediately. Because it's seen as neither important nor remarkable enough to command attention to the characters.
@@Sorain1 i wouldn't say the irl trans movement would vanish overnight, because it is more about getting acceptance and not being hurt, injured, or any other kind of discrimination due to the fact that we transition, rather than the fact that transitioning takes time and money. But I do agree that in this world (I haven't watched the show, but from what I've seen) it seems to have no transphobia, and people can transform into different CREATURES, the idea of a transgender character can say they're trans doesn't make a lot of sense. In this world they probably wouldn't have the labels cis and trans, it's just sometimes some ppl change their body, like almost everyone else in this world. So they probably could've represented him better by showing a picture or something before he transitioned, and his explanation is like "yeah that was me. Magic is awesome. Anyway...". Sorry this kind of became super long.
@@Sorain1 It wouldn't go away, people would still be very resistant to understanding trans issues. Even if you had a miracle proceedure that completely changed someone physically to their ideal body, trans people would still have issues with regards to coming out to parents/friends who don't understand or the fact such a proceedure would perhaps be a provided treatment in some countries while the US would make you have to pay for it, so if you were poor there then you're shit out of luck there.

Sage has magic she's learning to use and that's it though. For all the mystical stuff going on, Rosemary is amazingly unimpressive.
Also the mother was seen, and she was being covered in thorny vines. Clearly, this is Part 3.

The "is sleep a food joke" seems to be a reference to the "is mayonnaise an instrument" joke from Spongebob. But in the Spongebob scene, Patrick was not joking, he honestly thought mayonnaise was an instrument. But that was not actually the joke. The joke was than Squidward knew Patrick well enough that he was going to ask if horseradish was an instrument next.
So I guess the way to salvage the original joke is to make Rosemary so tiered she is babbling nonsense and actually believes sleep is a food. Yeah, it's not much, but it is better than nothing.
I think the problem he had with the sequence is not the " joke " in itself but the overlap of sound when the character say it wich proove a drastic lack of care for the audio editing

People should stop caring about shipping characters as a method to hook people into... And rather should care about making things... ACTUALLY fucking interesting.

And that show me or portray a history filled with dangers, risk, adventures, motivations, life experiences, morale and stuff that actually makes me value the life I have.
Is that too much to ask? It seems like it... As shows like this one makes it to see the light of the day.
NEVER use the shipping bait in the first episode. You can hint it once (like Avatar TLA) but DON'T rely on it from the first Ep. As viewers we don't care about these characters. Give us a reason to like them as individuals first, THEN push the shipping button.

The demographic seems really inconsistent
Seeing stuff like HGS and RWBY flop, makes me want to make something with the same format: magical school of fighting demons. But I want to expand of certain things, of which I think the previous fall:
1: Characters: Every important character is fleshed out. Without any bloating of the shear number of them like RWBY.
Themes: I want to have certain themes explored. Like how MHA would. With parallel between characters and what they represent by themselves, and against others. And with the powers, being MORE than powers.
Representation: I wanna represent people of different gender identities and sexualities, but play it into a theme of the story. That EVERYONE has to deal with the monsters, and that you are fucked no matter what or who you are.
Why keep going: every character has there own strengths and especially weaknesses. And especially with the main character, have their trauma.
RWBY's two big failures were lack of worldbuilding (and conveyance of said worldbuilding) and starting before they had a clear plot and set of arcs laid down. (Then their key creator died and it all fell apart just when they were starting to find their footing.) I like your idea and I'll toss out a thought I've had for you to use or ignore at will, summarized in a simple exchange.

The whole thing was just a very bad idea. There's nothing wrong with making an in-house anime if you are a distributer, but a combination of poor studio choice, and the deep seeded need the creators had to use this thing as a political soapbox killed any hope of it being worth watching. It's as nuanced as a brick through a window, it looks more like cheap Western garbage animation than it does anime, and judging from the twitter posts from the man did actually subject himself to each and every episode, it's more filler than it is content. If you are really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, into your own sexual preference, to the point that you feel you MUST be represented in what you're watching, then other shows do that better. Revolutionary Girl Utena does a better job of entertaining, discussing difficult topics while also swordfighting about them, and giving you that romantic payoff you're wanting. It's old, and also mostly filler, but at least the filler is good, and the nonsense is made sense of by the end.

The end result of this is a total flop. It's almost as if they hired a group of people completely without any qualifications whatsoever and only hired based on looks and personal appearance entirely. The audio quality of each character is terrible and lacks emotion, so some bad voice actors and terrible equipment. The main characters are really copy and paste so no originality and I've heard some say they're mostly self insert characters. And they used png pictures for lots of other stuff throughout the entirety of the show, poorly might I add as the pics were stretched and caused a severe blur and even have lines in them because they were sample pics. It's almost as if the people who weren't supposed to get this job got excied at all of the money, blew it all on lavish lunches, dinners and etc and when they realized the deadline was coming up they ordered the cheapest equipment possible, cheapest voice actors and just used their Tumblr fanfiction for the storyline. Waste of subscribers money.

FINALLY some RGU love. It's incredible and I think it deserves the title "the evangelion of shojo". It has disturbing themes but they are meaningful and not just added in for the sake of being mature.
I'm sick of the misconception of anime (and implied Japan) to not be inclusive of LGBT themes compared to the oh so progressive West. LGBT manga and anime exist, there are tons of them, i know this because my lgbt friends go through them like fucking popcorn. Hell, sailor moon has a gay couple, hxh has trans characters, banana fish, yuri on ice are insanely popular gay anime, they're literally not that hard to find. It's just that a lot of woke people from the west don't bother to look for jp lgbt content and promote them. They demand other creators to make lgbt rep instead of supporting the existing lgbt creators. They pretend japanese lgbt creators don't exist so they get this over inflated ego that they'll be the first to do something "woke" and that's how we end up with stuff like hgs.
The best part is how the main four are named after herbs, not spices.
I'm not mad that they named characters after a Simon and Garfunkel song. I'm disappointed that they didn't do it in a better show.

You see how that cheesecake bit should've gone down is like this:
She looses the locket and is all stressed about losing the picture of the cheesecake, and spends the entire time being all frantic and bummed out, only for her friend to say something along the lines of "it's not the photo of the cheesecake that's important, it's your memory of the cheesecake that's important," with the lesson being that while keep sakes are nice, they're not stand ins for the memories you have. The episode ends with her feeling better and would then show that somewhere else, someone is pawning off the locket where it is revealed that it's a picture of her family with the cheesecake. The point of the entire conflict should be to illustrate how the mother's presence supercedes outside factors like her death, setting up the daughter character as having uncompromising principles and loyalty.

This show wants a standing ovation for sloppily doing something Sailor Moon did 30 years ago expertly and without brown nosing itself.

But I do at least know that Sailor Neptune and Uranus were the most prominent same-sex relationship of that era, several other characters were open to the possibility of same-sex relationships, the Amazon Trio were basically heterosexual and homosexual crossdressers, the Three Lights were what we might consider F-to-M trans people nowadays, and many, many other things that they didn't even call attention to back in the day outside of watch-dog groups.

Ok listen, I'm gonna admit that I'm one of those queer people that just falls head over heels for ANY representation... but I'm also a fucking nerd and need good characters and world building. Sure, there might be a LGBTQ+ cast, but if it doesn't hold my attention during the first episode at all and the only selling point is the representation... isn't that kinda... well... queerbaiting? Just with a different definition? And personally, I don't want my identity to be exploited for money, so this show is a hard pass.
Give RWBY some credit, at least that show had the excuse of being made by a (at the time) small company for it not having the best quality. That and the character designs were actually memorable and had decent fight choreography.
High Guardian Spice feels like it has even less quality control. The animation is flat and looks more generic than 90% of anime romcoms, the voice acting is wooden as all hell and doesn’t sound natural, the dialogue is even worse since it sounds like it was written for toddlers just with a few swear words thrown in, and the audio mixing is shockingly bad for something that came out of a big company like Crunchyroll.
Comparing this show to other anime and it’s not even a contest, but even if you compare it to other Western cartoons, it still comes up short. I don’t like shows like She-ra or TTG, but at least those shows felt like “actual shows.”

High Guardian Spice is honestly just a really low-quality, boring mess that would have been forgotten if it wasn't for the PR nightmare surrounding it. Like, if it didn't have Crunchyroll's name on it, this show would have become more irrelevant than Robotomy. And I'm sure I'm the only guy in this comment section that even remembers that show.
The fact I don't even know about whether robotomy is even an anime, let alone its plot speaks volumes of its irrelevance.

HGS is an excellent example of how not to use tone. 90 % of the show is like Teletubbies, but then there’s moments like a rat being eaten by a plant and you see the process of it rapidly and descriptively decaying into nothing, muscles and everything. And then the show just continued on with the happy and bright tone with these weird, sudden dips. The fuck is this show for?
Also, it continues to be this cartoon like show for kids, and then throw in like 5 swearwords for no good reason.

This show though is like an indecisive teenager who wants to be taken seriously and be thought as edgy, while still having an aesthetic that wouldn't seen out of place on pop girl or something

On one hand, it has violence, sex and swear over the wazoo, on the other hand, it's artstyle is reminicent of shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Voltron: Legendary Defender and She-Ra and the Princess of Power.
Like Crunchyroll are afraid that if it was kid-friendly, it won't be taken seriously so they add a lot of gore and f-bombs because it's edgy, man.
Say whatever you want about Masters of the Universe: Revelations, both good and bad, at least Kevin Smith didn't go full TV-MA because he at least knows that he wanted something that both grown-up and kids can appreciate by being edgier than the 80's cartoon but still something kids and younger audience introduced by the new She-Ra cartoon can enjoy.

No... Hotel Mario is entertainingly bad. It sucks as food, but the way the suckitude was achieved was bonkers enough to where the effort is appreciable. This is bad in the strict sense of there being an absence of good. It's bland mush whose only standout features are the flies that died in it while the cook was busy not watching it.

honestly, i watched the whole series going in blind - not knowing anything about the controversies behind it.
the first episode sucked. a lot. however, the rest of the season was meh. adequate. it got me kinda invested around the mid-way point and episodes 8 and 9 are my favorite. other than a few gripes i have with a bit of confusion about why magic can't be used for certain things, it was overall an enjoyable experience of a meh show.
what i mean to say is, the first episode isn't a good representation of what the show can do. it's not a good show by any means but, if the controversies surrounding it didn't happen, then it would just be considered an average show. i hope that you do get $1000 or 10k likes because i honestly want to know what you think about the rest of the season with the backdrop of knowing all these controversies.
Even if I didn't know, all the hamfisted "duhversity" crap would ruin it for me.

Hard disagree. I'm struggling more with every episode because even if the art gets somewhat more acceptable over time and there are *some* things that are vaguely interesting? The characters, pacing and writing are just too bad. I just ended up getting more and more frustrated.
From what I've seen the show, average implies it's alright, which many would disagree. I think this would be comparable to Teen Titans Go levels of how much there is to dislike, first are so many plot holes, second would be the side-tracks and lack of attention to the main plot, terribly written executions, no 3 dimensionally written characters for a show that was made for over 3 years, and very, very awkward dialogue. Okay, this isn't even comparable to TTG, at least that show's entertaining despite how horrible it is, this show is just boring, as if it was made for children and that's it.
Then, if you take in the controversies, you'll actually notice a reflection of that in the show. Every male character is used as caricatures to boost the female characters, they make _sure_ you know that characters are lgbtq+ (Like that one scene in the guest bedroom, why was there a very detailed portrait of the lesbian married couple? Portraits are common definitely, but why would you put a very personal and special portrait in the guest's bedroom?), and I'm pretty sure that the one straight guy had to be a cat caller. Literally every cis guy there is either nonexistent or bad.

I remember seeing discourse about the whole ship thing being made “canon” “just to please fans”. Personally I do ship them BUT I never really felt the need for it to be canon just because I like the idea of them being together so much - and that applies for any show I’m a fan of.
Thats why I don't like most of the new LGBT ships. Because it seams it either come out of nowhere and/or used for ratings to please fans. There's one ship that I remember from a show that I liked. And I think 2 LGBT ships where confirmed but only one I liked. The one I liked showed these 2 charcters who where friends with each other and as time went on, they became closer. Then during the series finale, they got married and I liked it. The one I didn't like had 2 charcters who where labeled as friends but for most of the time, they had a rivalry between them. Like to the point where anyone seeing those clips would be like, nah, these 2 aren't going to be a couple. But then they became a couple and it felt like it came out of nowhere... That's my problem with LGBT ships like princess bubblegum and Marceline, they seam to only happen because the fans wanted it and to me, they seamed to hate each other way to much to be a couple. Like that's not a healthy relationship no matter if it's an LGBT ship or a straight ship.
Low Attacker Sweet is my favorite seasonal cartoon along with Tesla Note.
Low Attacker Sweet is mediocre at most honestly. I don't like that the episode established basically nothing - they could have just started the episode walking to the Magic School. Instead we get a ton of what amounts to floundering aimlessly. It doesn't seem like they particularly thought about storytelling and instead wanted to portray a world the audience can't care about.
Nonetheless, Low Attacker Sweet is pretty inspiring - but not for the showrunner's intended reasons. I'm pretty reassured that when my own work is eventually uploaded that it simply will outdo and outpace the entire series with sheer quality... Especially the backgrounds, because good lord do Low Attacker Sweet's backgrounds look stolen more than half the time due to the pixelation and image artifacting.

But to answer your question on the Logan Roof person, I've see this name under a number of channels (under Logan Roof or Logan Roof News). They will typically target a channel that is at least decently popular, such as in the case of JackSepticEye and Markiplier. Logan Roof was one of the channels propagating the, ultimately uncalled for, 'trolling' (if you can even call it that...) where they spammed each thread of a populated comment section with saying "X's (family member) is burning in hell".
While I cannot confirm that it is the legitimate channel or even user of said channel, I can confirm this is either a bot or someone with way too much time on their hands. Every comment by them that I've seen has been posted around the same time as the others, showing at least some form of automation has been involved (whether that be a script from the account or someone spamming ctrl v).
It's just saddening to me that someone decided that spamming a comment section of a video would be considered fun. It's even worse that this same someone is essentially dancing on another's grave for 'clout'. The best thing to do is to not respond to someone spamming a comment section, and also pray to whatever god is out there CZcams can secure its own site...

High Guardian Spice definitely copied the weirdest aspects of different shows that did similar things. Honestly, I don't blame others for despising Crunchyroll for the bullshit they kept pulling while this... *THING* was hiding during their development for a "original anime".
Probably took longer to find voices for their one note characters and various PNGs instead of the half-assed animation. Folks have already found the Shutterstock PNG for a lamppost used in one of the episodes, eventually the other PNGs used throughout this "anime" are going to be found and show how lazy they were with this thing.
I know one thing's for sure, the fanart for this "anime" is going to be either making fun of it, better than the real deal or lewd.
Also, I've seen beginner sprite animations that have better consistency than this garbage.

The budget clearly didn't go into the voice acting, which is a shame, because Slime Boy's VA clearly deserves a bonus.
The first experience I had with this show was “Fantasy for kids”, and that feels about right. Less like something like early Star vs The Forces of Evil or Adventure Time, where it was written with competence and meant to be able to be enjoyed by everyone, and more just a shlock bad anime. It’s just kind of…nothing, the voice actors just kinda know it.

If you're talking about the blonde guy, I agree. He's pretty much the only traditionally masculine male in the show and he's a jerk. Basically implying traditionally masculine things on men = bad, which I think isn't fair at all. I think of characters like Armstrong from FMA, who has a lot of traditionally masculine character traits but is still a good person with plenty of other character traits and character moments. "Masculine=bad" is so un-nuanced its laughable. If they wanted to say something about toxic masculinity, they just completely failed.

It's just really scummy in a way to ostracise these ideas and concepts reasonable and decent people have instead of expanding and finding a common ground.
@Logan Roof News you're sad. That aside I don't hate this, if you want to talk shows I hate it's shows like Batwoman. Really I just hate the influences that lead to this standard of media. You get shoddy, poorly crafted works like this that only exist to make the creators feel good rather than actually making a product they enjoy want other people to enjoy or are compelled to create.
This show, albeit having SOME good basic hooks; is vapid, unfocused, and shows a new era of media we should all be concerned about. An era of equally dull stories or concepts that are honestly interesting, yet the writers simply take the easy way out because they're scared of the audiences whom watch them with contempt or it's not self righteous enough for them.
These people have a basic understanding of writing, the underlying threat to the city or whatever is something that makes me interested potentially. Yet not only does that plot point come so late my interest waned lower than your dogs balls, but it's such a basic hook that leads to show how weak writers they are. Maybe one day the crew can create something worthwhile, but as long as they keep focusing on arbitrary shit rather than writing we'll keep getting anything between shitty to mediocre or something that falls flat on its face. You're probably not going to read this and if you do I applaud you for doing that at least before you completely disregard my stance on this and say I'm being bigoted in some sort of way.
I feel like this show is what happens when you put “the message” over things like good writing, story structure, voice acting, etc.
As far as I'm concerned, Crunchyroll has absolutely no respect from me for a multitude of reasons.
One of them being the abysmal handling of the anime adaptations of the Webtoon series, idk if they had no faith in them or not but they definitely did not fund them currently forcing them to skip content and cram to much stuff into 13 episodes, thank god Tower of God was decent enough even with its issues.

While yes, volume 5 is FAAAAAAAAR worse, probably 10× as bad as anyone tries to describe it, it at the very least makes you FEEL something. High Guardian Spice, and this is personal experience since I saw the vids made by Spilling the Milk, who by the way reacted to that, made me want to go to sleep. Volume 5 RWBY at the very least makes you FEEL something. Pissed off at the creators? Baffled by their decisions of how the story works? Dumbfounded by character choices in the show that makes them seem out of character? That's emotion right there! As one man says it best, A Bad show is better than a boring show. Or at the very least, that's my opinion on this subject. Obviously both shows are bad, but they're bad in different ways. That's why I said V5 is better than HGS, or at the very least in context of what you're doing to the audience. Hope you can understand what I'm saying.

Thing is. I will say this. THIS SHOW HAD POTENTIAL. They just had to get the head out their ass. If the worked on the concepts, motivations of characters, and focus more on the spice aspect (since from my knowledge each character is supposed to represent a spice). Make each spice have a unique personality for instance, with flaws and pros of each spice in an artistic way. Make me care about these characters. Like for real. They could’ve done something with a lot more effort and humbled attitude. I could look past voice acting if the story was at least good.
Also. Some SUBTLY would make the show leagues better. Cuz everything is just hand fed to you as if you are stupid. And script needs changing…

To be honest I truly think that Crunchyroll was just ashamed of themselves so they just kind of locked it a vault somewhere and did nothing with it for a couple years. And then when their guilt over it started to build up and fester and they couldn't bare to think about it anymore they hastily took it out, hired dollar store voice actors to get it done quicker and added occasional PNGs into the backgrounds just to add the cherry on top.

HGS is an excellent example of the Sunken Cost Fallacy. They spent so much on it, time and money, that they just had to bring it out or they'd feel it was wasted. A bit of advice, if a project is looking bad on the horizon... don't try to save it. Just scrap it. Possibly ruining your image and rep because you spent a lot of time on something isn't worth it. Then try your best to not let it happen in the future. Companies learn quick how to reduce "shrink" to save money and so should you.

The world, background, and setting in this show reminds me of a homeless man's attempt at trying to recreate Terry Pratchett's Discworld, G. R. R. Martin's Westeros, and J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth but failed miserably as a result (and no I'm not saying they ripped those series off).

That clip in the market reminds me of the animation style of old Hanna Barbera cartoons, where the characters and movable objects were more vibrant in coloration while the rest of the scene was more blurred and baked in/static. You could easily tell what was background and what was supposed to move. Only it doesn't even fully do that because most of those background characters didn't move at all.
10:15 The whole not blending in with the background thing is something I've noticed in anime recently, it ruined the climatic fight at the end of the recent Pokemon movie and the Lancer vs True Assasin freeway fight in FSN: Heaven's Feel (which also had this really dumb looking snow overlay effect). In the later case it was due to the copious amounts of bad rendered 3D, not just for the vehicles but also for the backgrounds. They were otherwise well-animated fights though (but the spinny camera when Lancer loses Gae Bolg and recalls it (like Marvel Thor and Mjolnir) can go straight to hell).

The whole situation with this show heavily reminds me of a Russian 3D-cartoon Children vs Wizards. It's an equally atrocious piece of animation which is, coincidentally, also set in a magical school inhabited by liberal stereotypes, and spots same problems as HGS like lack of animation, terrible charater design, nonsensical plot, rampant use of stock effects, laughable voiceover and obnoxious political propaganda. It however poses itself as a conservative flick and it's based upon a much more enjoyable novel written by a collective of trolls as an over-the-top parody of bad Russian patriotic fiction, but takes it without a hint of irony.
Unintentional satire is always an absolute goldmine of hilarious entertainment.

Good. I was looking for a video like this. I keep seeing random clips telling me it's bad, but without explanations or context, I don't understand it.
Honestly I kind of want to write a magical school story now. I want to see the disparity between this cringe and my talent as a writer.
I'm no Steven King but I write short stories on CZcams and generally speaking people have a very likable reaction to my stories wanting me to publish something someday.
Here, I'll even give you a revised idea of a pilot idea to start our adventure off:
Pink haired girl and mom sitting out in a field, mom looks at daughter as daughter says "do you love being a guardian"
Her face twists in anger/pain and she says softly "my love for you trumps any feeling for what I do... but yes, I enjoy it. And I'm sure you will make a fine guardian one day too"
Then a bad guy shows up and talks to mom, though his voice is hidden from pink haired girl. Mom tears up and falls to her knees while pink haired girl tugs on her clothes in her own fear. Magic stuff happens but mom pushes daughter down and takes her sword out and holds it high, tears streaming down her face but her arm shakes and then she stabs the sword in the ground and then a magic circle surrounds pink haired girl and mom steps back as the bad guy gently wipes her tears off her face and laughs. Then they disappear in dark magical fog
Then pink haired girl is determined to become a guardian to find her mom and find out what happened and why mom didn't kill her.
But yeah this show is just a snoozefest.
Anybody who thinks this is worse than anime clearly hasn't ever really watched really bad anime...

From what I've heard, the creator of said show hates men so much (likely has daddy issues & never talked to a therapist about it.) that continues to go on social media to be all "©¡// all men" and blocks anyone who calls her out on her sexism.
Yeah I noticed that in the show. Many guys that stick to the men's"gender roles" are seen as bad guys in this show while men who are more feminine are the good guys. It's a bit strange but knowing that the creator of this show hates men, it makes sense.
@@Twinklethefox9022 Big thonk. It's hilarious also cause they keep saying how thier show is so "diverse" yet the male characters all sound like they are held at gun point to say thier lines not to mention they claim the hate they get is "racist" cause they have a black guy in it.
heres my honest opinions of the series no one asked for:
1) The overall story is overused, sure, but like Cinder Fall said in RWBY volume 3 “just because you know how its going to happen doesnt mean it wont be fun to watch” what im getting at here is that the show HAS the potential to become a fun series to watch if only they put a bit more effort into it. cus as of right now, their writing isnt even worthy of being called subpar.
2) The art style. I understand the hate if it’s coming from an otaku’s POV with a series claiming to be an “anime” with an art style akin to that of modern cartoons but from a non-anime POV i actually dig it and agree that it shouldve aired on disney or cartoon network instead.
3) The animation. While its not perfect and has its obvious flaws and cases of copy pasting renders from google images at times, I feel like majority of people just dont want to admit that its actually good just cus of the show’s other bad qualities. A scene where I really loved the animation for is the one where rosemary first sees the new kid in class and develops a crush on him, specifically when her eyes sparkle. I just cant describe it well enough but i love how fluid it came out. Other than that, the animation’s pretty okay to say the least,
4) The history behind the staff of the show. Obviously its a big yikes but if theyre gonna make a show with their not-so-appreciated ideals they couldve at the very least made it, for a lack of a better term, subtle? Idk I just feel like with the way the staff is acting rn and with how the show is written theyre just begging to get shat on.
5) The “diversity” and “representation” of this series feels more like a marketing scheme or a shady religion thats being constantly patronized and shoved down people’s throats than actual presentation. You have a trans character outright telling the main character “Im transgender” which just shits on the whole “show dont tell” aspect entirely. I’m no writer but im pretty sure you have to get your script checked and reworked by a good handful of people before it makes it on the final print right? So who the hell thought that line was a good idea? Theres literally a fan animatic on youtube that had OP rewrite the scene to make it feel actually natural and not hamfisted “representation”.
6) Voice acting. The only problem I have so far is with Slime Boy’s voice sometimes since hearing him talk feels like theres an itch in my brain that i obviously cant scratch at, dont get me wrong i like his very chill character albeit hes bordering on useless (no surprise here) but the voice acting is just…yeah. As for everyone else theyre doing a pretty okay job.

Gonna be real here chief. The animation is ass. You don't (do. not.) add elements into a show that should move and then keep them stagnant. There are some really good shots. I love the intro where we see Rosemary's mom covered in petals. It made my heart sing. But there are way too many instances of "busy" areas having little to no action, characters literally moving like robots, and a lack of fluidity over all. I know, I know, this sounds hyper opinionated, but you can compare so many modern shows to this one (Craig of the Creek, for example) in terms of style, and they're just better. The animation they were going for is not a phenomenon. It's a sign of a lack of care. And that, my friend, is the most disparaging aspect of this entire show.

I don’t know much about the animation/writing process but if it took this long to make one episode and have it be not that great then something must’ve happened between creators.
Or maybe it’s just bad.

I played this game Ikenfell(haven’t finished it yet), it also have similar elements of Magical academy and cast of lgbt characters difference is Inkenfell more interesting than High Guardian Spice. Ikenfell have something High Guardian Spice lacks, I get to know the characters i unlock, share their motivation are, solving mysteries in the school and ikenfell gameplay is actually fun, more entertaining than watching High Guardians Spice. I agreed about the selling shipping part as I see what shipping can do to people cough Star Vs Cough toxic Reylos cough CW's Supergirl. And Netflix’s Cannon Busters is more of an Anime than High Spice Guardian.
I am reminded of the Anime 'Made in Abyss'. In its very first episode, there were sooooo many hooks that motivated the viewer to stick around. In the first episode you are introduced to the MC, what her interests, personality and motivations are (mainly to find her mother and discover the secrets of the Abyss). She too lost her mother, though she is actually missing and not dead, or maybe she is dead, im still curious about that question, thats one of the mysteries... The MC is then firmly placed in a world that matches her and her entire culture. The big thing in her world being the Abyss, a massive hole filled with strange plants, creatures and landscapes in which the deeper you go down this seemingly bottomless hole, the more dangerous it becomes to ascend back up, due to whats known as "Ascension sickness" - basically you fall apart in horrific ways if you try to come back up. The Abyss is said to have an aura that makes people curious about it, causing them to develop an urge to explore deeper, and interestingly enough, it even affects the watcher because i really want to know what is at the bottom if it even has one. Its villains dont mess around either. If the environment didnt finish you off, the antagonists would love to "Explore" the reasons why not.
Good character + character development + worldbuilding + An intimidating antagonist + a whole lot of subtle details that even eludes me = A Good Story
This has non of that.
The characters are pathetically annoying
There is virtually ZERO character development
The Worldbuilding is basically not even mentioned
The "villains" in this show... Jesus, id wager that they are secretly afraid of their own shadows and their "motivations"... yeah...
It lacks that subtleties that makes it a ingestible show
So im not impressed at all
