My first trip to the keys was over Christmas in 1973. We had a new 1973 31’ holiday rambler travel trailer which we towed with a Chevy suburban. We stayed on Long Key at which was then an Outdoor Resort campground. We brought the Christmas tree and decorations and presents for our 4 young kids. About a decade later we returned and stayed on Cudjoe key. At that time i decided to purchase a canal front lot on Duck Key, and a few years later started construction of our home on it. I was in the home building business in Bucks County Pa. I was also a licensed Pa. real estate broker and a member of the National assn of Realtors. I acted as an owner builder on the Duck Key project, doing much of the work myself, and later secured my Florida building contractors license. I moved the Holiday trailer into the Jolly Rodger RV park during the time i was building the home. At that time it was a much different place, there were quite a few older mobile homes there which were full time residences. I got to know quite a few of them well. After we moved into the home, the owner of the Jolly Rodger terminated the leases of all the occupants, and the trailers that couldnt be moved were destroyed. They did a major facelift of the park, bringing it up to what it is today. I now live in Vero Beach, in hindsite i wish i had moved here in the first place, and bought a vacation home in the keys. I made my last trip to the keys about 10 years ago in early May, with a pickup camper and my trailered boat. We stayed at the Jolly Rodger and kept the boat in the marina there. We stayed for 6 days, and as i recall our stay was about $900. As for the fishing, it was very windy during the entire time we were there, and we werent able to get out to the reef even one time because of that. We fished the Gulf side but the water condition was very poor due to all the wind. While i was living there i would occaissionaly have some friends come down during the winter months to fish. It wouldnt be unusual for them not to get out fishing at all due to the wind and bad sea conditions.
Looks like a really nice place to stay, away from some of the hustle and bustle of the city proper. It's 28* here in Michigan this morning. Can't wait to be back in Marathon in the Spring!

Great Video! We were just a couple of spots away at space 160 on the sea wall. Our grey Toyota Tundra and trailer can be seen in your video. Small world. I am always watching RV videos on youtube especially ones about the keys. I open youtube today and this is the first video that is suggested to me. Would have been nice to say hello. My research has found Florida keys camp grounds have very few spots for 45' camper/rv. It's better to have a camper/rv under 35'( the smaller the better).
Cool at 82 degrees. Lol I feel bad for you. Here in northern Delaware it's 47 degrees. And we have a frost warning for tonight. After having been in the Keys in April. I really want to go back permanently. I need to change my latitude and my attitude.

I love your videos and the keys! I am planning on coming down for a month and noticed that the campground seemed to have just a few campers. Is October a slow month and is the fishing good in October? Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Yes the Keys are fairly vacant in October, but booms again just after Thanksgiving. The fishing slows down a bit in October, but Mahi will still be out there in decent numbers. The reef is always consistent for Yellowtails, snapper, etc....
