    As Specialized owners, we want Corporate to take notice 👀, so they take care of us! The riders!
    My next video will be about why Specialized should back up their statement "best kind of bike repair is no bike repair"... by having 3 motors READY at each LBS (local bike shop dealer) so when our motors go out... we don't have to wait 2-3 weeks!!! sometimes more... Specialized has to send a replacement motor, so why not send 3 to every shop ahead of time 🕔. replacement is 20-30 minutes (the repair guys are getting pretty fast after doing so many)...
    So... Best Bike Repair is the one that you are IN & OUT (not the burgers🍔) and back on the trail.... NOT waiting 3 weeks! SUBSCRIBE and LIKE!
    📣 News Release - Specialized 7/27/2020✅
    New Extended Warranty and Firmware Update for
    all model year 2019/20 Levo FSR & 2020 Kenevo
    For any rider, the best kind of bike repair is no bike repair - that’s our goal. If one of our bikes has let your riders down when they were counting on it, we’re not ok with that and we’ll make it right. Period.
    Our job is to make bikes that give riders the absolute best in performance and reliability. The Specialized Turbo Levo & Turbo Kenevo have delivered on this promise for hundreds of thousands of riders across millions of km/mi around the globe. Innovation at Specialized will never stop. When we find a way to make a bike better, we do it as soon as possible. We make dozens of small improvements to our bikes and mobile apps on a rolling basis - it’s what allows us to deliver riders the very best, often before it is available elsewhere.
    Some time ago, it came to our attention that we were experiencing a small but unacceptable number of early-life failures in some of our Model Year 2019/20 Levo and 2020 Kenevo motors. Since then, we have worked relentlessly to drive a number of improvements to eliminate any issues. These have included steps to reduce noise, fitting a stronger belt, updates to the freewheel assembly and further optimizations to address strength and overall reliability.
    All of these hardware-based improvements are featured on motors fitted to model year 2021 Levo & Kenevo. To ensure peace of mind for all riders, we’re extending the motor warranty on impacted bikes from 2 to 4 years for all owners of Model Year 2019/20 Levo FSR & 2020 Kenevo from the date of purchase. This warranty is transferable (with proof of purchase) should a rider decide to sell their bike.
    Recently, we also identified a bug in the 2.1 motor firmware which has contributed to belt failures. Following an update to Turbo Studio that deployed on July 23rd, we will release a new version of motor firmware (targeted for July 28th) that improves belt reliability without compromising power or performance and need riders to update their motor firmware as soon as possible.
    We will start proactively informing riders via forums & Facebook groups about this new motor firmware, its improvements, and the related warranty extension from July 31st. Our aim is to avoid overwhelming stores hence we plan to send phased communications to riders via Mission Control and later by email. Should you have any questions in the meantime please do not hesitate to get in touch with Rider Care.
    Thanks for your continued support and commitment.

    I had a 2019 Turbo Levo for a year and a half and never had a belt problem at all but it would pulsate on off on off in rapid succession at 18.4 mph!! Very annoying!! Replaced speed sensor and battery check and everything they could think of to no avail!! So time for second motor and no luck!! And the third motor did the same!! Sold the bike and now looking at 2021 Trek 9.7!! Will miss my Mission Control though!!

    The code update is for fixing an issue with the motor putting out a short burst of high power which was the main cause of the belts breaking.

    I wasn't aware of the 2 years guarantee extension until 10 days ago, when my 2019 let me down for the second time in the mountains (belt motor broken). It's not just the hassle of getting from wherever I was back to the car with a dead MOUNTAIN bike, but it's also vacations ruined because it takes time for the reseller to get a new motor and replace it.
    I used. to love this bike and shit can happen once but not twice so now I have a confidence problem towards this bike
    For those of you who had the motor replaced, what is your experience with climbing mountains? (I mean eco mode 95% of the time).
    Should I be confident and go riding in the mountains again or would I be better of riding even terrain?

    I gave my pedal cannondale mtb to my son. Great mtb .. And bought a efattire bike. It's pretty good 500w rear drive. Only 1k. Had to replace the seat it was crap. And it's a rigid. So I'll be putting on some front suspension forks. And upgrading the front break. It rolls thru everything. I ride 15 miles a day. Lots of cleanup. I use the throttle a lot. I'm old and injured. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. Have fun. Everybody gets pretty excited seeing a fat tire ebike I noticed.

    I'm looking at a used 2020 Turbo Levo... which has the 4 year warranty till May 2024. Beautiful bike, and I'd like a Specialized this time, instead of another Santa Cruz... cuz the Specialized is a lot less expensive, for starters. After reading all the horror stories on the Turbo Levo, I don't care how nice the 2020 is, I can't imagine why I'd buy a Specialized... unless Specialized starts offering extended annual warranties at a reasonable price. I also have a Trek Bosch with 11,000 miles on it... original motor, original battery. I don't care who gets to the top of the hill first. I do my best to not even engage assist, because I'm in this for the exercise 90% of the time. I don't need a bike that costs $1000+ for a new motor, and no one can fix the old one. Once Specialize gets their act together, one with a broken motor will be a hanging piece of art in someone's man cave. That's a Mercedes kind of story.

    B.S. about 100% failure rate. I've got 2900 miles of 98% rocks and dirt trail and NO MOTOR ISSUES on 2019 Expert! I'm not backing up Specialized and they deserve criticism, I just don't like your exaggeration, but thanks for the info in the description. The best thing to do is let it fail the way they sold it to me... I won't update the firmware. They never tried to contact me to fix it. I'd rather it fail sooner than wait and see after year 4 when I must pay for the repairs.

    • @CruisingTheLand
      @CruisingTheLand  Před 4 lety

      Do you know that there are some bikes that had 3 to 4 motors? Hard core riders that got a replacement in 2019, went back to riding hard until their replacement motor failed. If everyone had 2 replacements, that would be a 200% failure rate.
      So the 100% failure rate is likely pretty accurate and not a exaggeration. My bike has had 2 replacements, so between you and I, we average 100% failure rate. AND WHEN your motor goes out... you will increase the percentage. If I were you, I would hope my motor goes, so you can get thr replacement motor with stronger belt and components.
      Just like the failed marriage rate at lets say 50%... you have to understand there are repeat offenders that boosts that number. So saying only 50% of bikes are affected could be reasonable, but the the other 50% can have multiple motor replacements...

    • @biketothetop
      @biketothetop Před 4 lety +1

      @@CruisingTheLand Sorry, but it doesn't seem you know how to do this math. If we take your example of you and I, then 2/3 (66%) motors failed. Yes, I know about single owners having repeat failures. I met a guy in Orange County, CA that explained he had 3 failures. Clearly this is unacceptable, but claiming 100% failures is still not an accurate statement. It's just not the case. Regardless, the failure rate that they have is clearly unacceptable. The problem we have is that we're not the holders of the reliability data, Specialized has it, but we know it's unacceptable. If the failure rate was over 5%, I would say it's unacceptable. I just have issue with your statement of 100% because it's clearly not the case.
      Design and Manufacturing
      are the two areas that Specialized should have focused on in order to produce a good product. During the design phase they should have tested the products as they intended to release them based on the user Duty Cycles they expected and with parts and processes they expected to produce.
      If their validation was successful and correctly designed, then we wouldn't have the problems we see currently. It's possible they changed the manufacturing processes or materials after they performed their validation.
      If they did this, it's possible there is a large quantity of material laying around that they wanted to consume in order to save money. If this is the case, they made a major error and should have eaten the cost of the materials that they produced, but they were also under great demand to get this product out, so they may have concluded that to gain market share they should go Full Speed Ahead and deal with the slop later. We really don't know what they were facing because they're not disclosing that to us. I still don't have confidence that they've addressed the problem because we don't have field data yet to support any changes they made. Changing a warranty has nothing to do with changing the product content. Of course if they're smart about it, they would incorporate new design and/or manufacturing processes that would lead to a proper result. Perhaps their criteria for testing was underestimating how users would use their product. If so, they would have had to make major design changes to accommodate customer use. The only thing they've told me is that people with lower Cadence rates tend to have the failures. I know the way I operate my bike I tend to stay in lower gears and spin more. I think that's because I don't mind climbing and never had in the past. I want to get a workout. I also go up stuff that I could never have done for 25 years of riding before and enjoy the torque.
      I really don't know all the design,/mfg facts, only Specialized does because they designed it. I want them to fix it too!

    • @CruisingTheLand
      @CruisingTheLand  Před 4 lety

      Interesting on the Cadence rates.
      I do recall in the 3 instances of the guys on my crew (hmmm all had motors go out... thats 100% for our crew) that it occurred after a big climb and near the top, when hitting a flat, then a steeper grade before reacting with changing gears... so slow cadence when hitting that slope... more strain on the motor and belt... makes sense.
      Tell you what tho...
      If Specialized sends out 1000 bikes, and has to replace 1000 motors, although maybe 500 riders are good, but the other 500 riders have replacements twice... all they see is that they had to replace 1000 motors on 1000 bikes that went out...
      But my last argument to prove my point, is.... regardless of how many bikes and times motors have failed... Once YOUR motor goes out... thats a 100% failure rate for YOU!
      Will you find that acceptable?
      BTW... between out 2 bikes, my motor failed 2x you 0x
      So 2 bikes 2 replaced motors. Thats a 100%.
      So perhaps you'd prefer the language to be... 100 % replacement rate versus failure rate, since your specific motor has yet to fail... but once it does the between us we have a 150% replacement rate and 100% failure rate...

    • @biketothetop
      @biketothetop Před 4 lety

      @@CruisingTheLand there's nothing to prove here about specialized being incompetent! I've already told you I agree and that a failure rate over 5% would be unacceptable. I'm not happy about the situation regardless of whether my motor failed or not. I recognize it's inevitable that I'm likely to have a problem. For this reason I'm not making any improvements to make my unit last longer. I know it has the old firmware on it and I much rather fail like you said, sooner rather than later. I'm eager to see what the reliability data shows for their supposed latest fixed Motors.

    IMPORTANT: For all Turbo Levo owners. Do NOT update your bike to the latest firmware AKA (7.3.6). This is the resulting of me going to Specialized Costa Mesa dealer for 6 times!!! Here is the issue:
    When you update, everything seems fine but the Walk Mode is going to ruin everything. So I completely got a brand new motor, TCU, Speed Sensor and basically everything changed and I still had the issue!! Here is whet happens. First of all, after update, when you use Walk Mode, you will notice the power is considerably lower than before the update!! Also if you push the bike hard (use walk mode on a tough steep hill or push it to wall) you will see the TCU changes color and you will see an error on the App saying the speed sensor is faulty/dirty and check that. Guys your speed sensor is FINE. The update is broken. They have coding issue so just wait for the next update. I hope this 6 times trip to Costa Mesa will save you some valuable time.

      I mentioned this before.... here is what they need to do if they are serious about the whole "best bike repair is no repair at all" :
      Send 3 motors to every dealer Bike shop, so when you bring your bike in, they can change it out (20 minutes) and get the rider back in the trail... why wait for the bikes to come in? Get AHEAD of the curve, and when a motor is swapped order another!!!
      Its not rocket science.

      @@CruisingTheLand I agree that they need to put their customers in front and turn the bikes around.
      However one problem with this strategy is that if the parts are all with latent failures, then it won't really help matters other than cost a lot of money to give customers Motors that will fail quickly thereafter. It doesn't address the root cause of the failures. In reality they could just go out of business... no one would benefit. Ideally they identify the root cause of the failure and rapidly Implement design and/or manufacturing changes. You should watch the new video from eMTB forums guy, Rob in England. He talks with Berkshire Cycles owner and that guy mentions that he does like what you said. He keeps inventory of Motors so he can get 48 hour turnaround for a customer. Both of these guys are somehow in close Cahoots with Specialized and have some bias.

      You have a 4 year warranty. Get motor replaced. Before 4 years is up, sell your bike. They are currently holding high value.

      What model did you buy that is $160 a month for ten years?? Sounds like you bought too much for your budget. You should get motor replaced and sell right away.

    Why not a 40 year warranty? Colossal waste of money for a garbage bike. Buy a Giant. It works.

      Hi Billy, you are funny... my friend has a 2018 Giant ebike. His screen went out in early April. Bike shop said Giant closed. He finally got an appt to bring his bike right after July 4th... he is still waiting from Giant to get a new screen. So that is a Giant Hassle to say the least. He bought a Specialized right when his Giant went down. His motor went out, and LBS got it replaced with March 2020 motor within a week... so Giant may have less problems on the motor, but when something goes out, you are a quarter to half a year without your bike! I am so glad Specialized did away with the screen. Serves no purpose, like you need to know how fast you are going when you are going down some Gnarly rocks.
      Hope you don't break your screen on your Giant, cause you will be out a bike.

      Cruising The Land No screen on my Giant. No need for one. 1,000 Kms a month. It’s bulletproof. The Turbo Levo HT looks like an interesting bike however. It’s a stunner, fast and stealthy. Reliability and parts another issue.

    They’re junk. I’m changing brands. The new motors are still failing. Complete shit. Ya they stepped up before their ebike division goes into the toilet. They had NO CHOICE.
