As a Brazilian, it's great to see this tune brilliantly done by such amazing musicians. Way to go, guys.
Brazilian here too! Totally agree!!
And thank you for the waxing ideas!
@@adaltroczguitar how good is his brazilian ?
You guys killed it!!
it wasn't that bad!
They murdered it, that's how good it was.
That trombone out of nowhere was amazing
Brazilian guy here. It's so AMAZING hear Brazilian music played and sung by foreigners, and so well made! Thank you very much!
But Martina is Brasileira! (Carioca?)
@@violao206 I don't know. Her accent is not from a native speaker.
As a brazilian I must say: these lyrics are very, very difficult to sing even for us. And you just nailed it. Perfect. Viva a Bossa Nova!
I´m brazilian too and totaly agree with you João Lopes. Actually their accent is very charming.
Native here. I wouldn't even dare 🤭
Sim!!!!
Parabéns!! Perfeito
Não é tão difícil pra um brasileiro.
Jesus Josh its hard to put to words how impressive your musical versatility is. You are a rare talent.
As an Argentinian that admires and plays Brazilian music, and lived decades in the US, I was delighted to hear this rendition and to see that Bossa is not dead there :) My hat off to you Josh!
You could listen with your eyes closed and hear the smiles on their faces. Love this.
and it's lovely because that's the case for Elis Regina and Jobim's recording as well.
@@N_Garamond True!
I always find it impressive how Josh is able to sing so many songs in so many different languages while still having good pronunciation. This is not an easy song to sing, especially if you are not a fluent Portuguese speaker, but him and Martina absolutely nailed it!
Part of being a top ties musician like Josh is having an excellent ear for detail
I'm looking forward an Italian song!
Completamente de acuerdo, Josh tirar el don, THE GIFT.
Cool - although I'm not sure about his taste in pyjamas
Choral singer here - once you've been trained on common characteristic sounds of romance languages and have a few songs under your belt, you can work up a decent pronunciation reasonably quickly - much more quickly than it would take to fully learn the language! A little familiarity with the International Phonetic Alphabet helps here too. Josh has college a capella background so I'm not surprised he pulls off the Portuguese well!
That placement of the Samba de Verão theme by the trombone player during his solo was smoother than silk
I noticed too. Cool reference👏
YES! I thought I was tripping!
😎🥂
and I thought there was something really odd about his face
Ikr, it was so nice

I'll spare you the "as a Brazilian" cliché, this is simply as good as it gets no matter where you are from. Amazing work!
Hey man, what a coincidence to notice your comment here! Hope you're well. And I agree, this is awesome!
@@ImmenseDisciple Hey there Mike! I know right?! Long time no see, nice to see that great music has brought us here.
“As a Brazilian” I agree 😂😂
As a Uruguayan immigration I agree
But you didn't spare us anything you said it
As a non-Portuguese speaker myself, I just love how it sounds when it's sung. This crazy song captivates the first time you hear it and stays w you forever. It sounds like springtime and everything is hopeful. Great great version, thank you.
Thanks for this beautiful description. Let me add that the lyrics are ushering Autumn since it says that the waters of March are closing the Summer (in the Southern hemisphere). Although with the promise of life in the heart.
In Bossa Nova not only the lirycs but the rhythm and harmonies also tells a story. This song sounds uplifting and refreshing whilst the liryc is a bit dark. In a way it describes the aftermath of floods and landslides commonly caused by the rains in that time of the year. It's a tough time but it reminds the power people have to rebuild themselves. At leat that's my take on that song.
‘Summer Samba’ quote at the end of the trombone solo, nice touch. So nice ;)
Eh-hmmm, it is Samba de Verão composed by Marcos Valle and original lyrics by his brother Paulo Sérgio Valle. The dodgy bolt-on English lyrics and wrong names were assigned by American lyricist Norman Gimbel. Why the beef? Because with virtually no exception, the English lyrics are crappy lightweight bolt-on shoe-horned lyrics which typically have nothing to do with the original lyrics. The greatness of the tunes are stripped down, dumbed down, without the poetic gravitas of the original intention. That is if the lyrics have anything to do with the original lyrics. Those are the worst and most unforgivable lyrics in English. Harrumph.
That's perfect, brazilian here and you played this work of art very very very good, i'm happy for the good brazilian music stay arriving in other countries, because here i rarely see people hearing this songs, bossa nova is perfect
I listened to much Jobim in the 60’s. He was a favorite. Now Josh is a favorite. Combining them is sublime.
Was that a joke with Josh's group being called The Other Favorites? If not, that's very funny lol
@@JovemEvertonif only I were that clever. Thanks anyway.
One of the greatest musicians of our generation. I wish you all the recognition you deserve, Josh.
This is the best crossover ever.
Thank you. Wonderful rendition. I can see Tom Jobim smiling in heaven
Continue 🥰❤️😄
The easy conversational flow of this song ( in Portuguese, no less) is brilliant. So relaxed and fun!
Hey Josh. Guitar heavy elementary music teacher here that's been following your channel for many moons. -Never commented, but I had the thought listening to this that you are literally a Mr. Roger's of music for adults. I just love all the special guests you have collaborated with over the years! Thanks for being a constant musical food for my soul. I have a big population of hispanic heritage children at my school and plan on letting this one rip as my older students walk in next week!
For a moment, I thought I was listening to native Brazilians singing. Beautiful performance, amazing Portuguese!
I don't understand a single lyric, but the interplay was delightful! Josh always makes it seem effortless... Excellent!
bora brasil porraaaaa 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I say it's one of the best ever renditions, although it is not professionally recorded.
Josh is a true musician. Brilliant!
Obrigado por tratar bem a "nossa" música Brasileira
Still waiting for your brazillian tour Josh! Greetings from Rio!
I love when you play brazilian music!
All around amazing, but what was really impressive to me was Josh's vocal delivery in a true "Joao's" bossa style. Velvety, airy flat baritone vibrato-less voice. Not to mention singing against that impeccable syncopated batida!!! Wooow
Jobim y Elis....unicos!!
Her voice is exactly what the song asks for! Great musicians, nailed it! A gem on This CZcams of ours!
So great! I love it when a singer's smile is audible. The way Josh falls back at the end reminds me of Jobim at the end of that black and white 1974 recording.
Josh's pronunciation gets better with each successive Brazilian cover. He even has a Brazilian vibe about him.
Yeah!! Cheers from São Paulo, Brazil!
Josh wanted so much to record this one he came right from the jailhouse.... im brazilian and i aprove this so much, congrats!
My favourite song and my favourite artist - I couldn't have asked for more - this is tied with Elis Regina's live TV performance for the best versions of this imo
That's the first version I ever heard of this song! Ellis was wonderful.
@@iskandertime747 absolutely magical isn't it!
This one and 'Oh, Lori' are in my youtube playlist on repeat. Whenever I feel a bit blue and need a boost.
My favorite song!
‘It’s the promise of life, it’s the joy in your heart.’ Josh, no matter the genre, style, instrumentation, language, texture, tone, everything you create brings joy! I can’t fully express how much I admire you and your collaborators. Thank you! ❤
Que maravilha ouvir a música brasileira nesse canal. Ficou lindo. Parabéns
Just what I needed this Friday
This is the best thing... of all the things... ever.
that trombone solo was firreeeee
Vocês nasceram no Brasil?
Thank you for keeping this song alive and doing it so damn well. The laughing and smiling while singing is just like Jobim and Elis. Just awesome.
Lovely, absolutely lovely. The words are tricky even for us here in Brazil. Amazing rendition. Thank you all for that.
Nah, you didn' enjoy that as much as we did. That was breathtaking.
Carlos Jobim would be pride of you.
Josh and Martina are amazing but let’s hear it for the uncredited trombonist-tambourine player
Thats her husband.

So amaaazing, guys! You can be sure that we Brazilians loved it 😁❤❤
Muito bom! Mandaram muito bem no português. Viva a música brasileira 😄
Herrliche Hausmusik, wunderbar dargeboten!
Obrigado, Pessoal! You're great! Thanks for enjoying the Brazilian Music!
Excelente Josh, excelente Martina, surpreenderam a todos nós brasileiros, ficou legal o português...
Estou sempre acompanhando a evolução musical de vocês...
Extensivo a Reina, Toni, Carson... E todas as outras parcerias...

Loved the samba de verão motif during the trombone solo
I haven't heard this in decades!
I'm Brazilian. I'm very happy for your effort to sing águas de março in portuguese. We know that it is very difficult, so we feel very happy when see foreigners speaking. Congrats
Pois a Marina é Bslra msm né?
Incredible, Josh doing bossa. Is there any genre that Josh cannot do? He is the most talented and authentic artist out there today.
Espetacular!

Nice accent. It took me a while to realize you guys are not brazilians. And this girl has a sweet voice!
Excelente!
Another Brazilian here. Man, I was thrilled with this interpretation. I'm sure Tom Jobim and Elis Regina would applaud you for such resourcefulness and talent! What may call "mistakes" I call humanity. This song is an expression of Brazilianness. Touching her with "perfection" is easy. It isn’t easy to print a personality as you did. I shivered with your interpretation! Congratulations!
Do Brasil para o mundo!!! 💚🇧🇷
Enquanto houver jovens talentosos, a boa musica jamais morrera. Obrigado, vocês são muito bons! ;-))
I have never seen a musician who can play so many differing genres as this marvellous artists-Josh Taylor. He can even sing in a different language then his natural tongue!A fantastic version of this classic song by the way.✌️
Is kind hard a brazilian artist made such huge success as Tom Jobim did in America. Thank you for this tribute. The Golden years of Brazil was well represented.
I love Gilberto and Jobim and I bet they love you. Mahalo!
Continue fazendo covers de musicas brasileiras. Ficou incrível!
I didn't understand a word, but it doesn't matter.
Watching and listening this performance was just...well, I can't describe it.
That joy, that happiness...
Wow, just wow.

beautiful cover...........Bossa nova lives on !!🎶🎵🎸🎷
It's extremly hard to compare this to the original, as the original was one of the performances that has to be one of the best ever! Not only as jusr performances but perfrormances of oune of the best songs ever writen!!!
I've noticed that people are never ambivalent about this song: they either love it or hate it at first hearing. I have always loved it, and this is probably the best performance of it I've ever seen.
Como Brasileiro agradeço muito a homenagem. Vocês são brilhantes!! Amazing work!
One of my all-time favourites!
Always love the Brazilian songs
as a native brazilian, who lived the whole life in Brazil, I can say you guys nailed ! No mistakes, 100% accurated.
Really liked How you captured that playful aspect of The original recording, all for more gringos apreciating our cultural treasure!
C'mon Josh... What can't you play... And sing? Amazing! ❤️
such a great timing xD Águas de março (waters (rains) of march) ending the summer, new life promising in our hearts
The pandeiro was very well played as well!
The girls voice is sublime ❤️
Josh has really done a fantastic job here by capturing the swing of Samba on this classic Bossa tune on his violao (Cordoba C9?), while at the same time executing with really good Portuguese elocution. I presume he has mainly phonetic Portuguese language skills only, but he also memorized the damn lyrics! Yes, I know he is only handling the call back lines that Jobim sang back to Elis, but dayummm he sounds legit. Over the decades, I have covered this tune quite a bit, but only in accompaniment with a Brasilan band member in my old group. Building out my personal songbook, I attempted this tune, but I soon came to realize that the 3 pages of non-repeating stream of thought lyrics are a bit overwhelming. "I may play a Brasilian on TV" (wink), but this tune is not exactly a breeze through the park for a non-Portuguese speaker. Unless you have gigged this song for years, it is not one that you're gonna rattle just off the top of your head. Even Martinha, who is bilingual, looks like she is reading lyrics here... again, 3 bloody pages lyrics here. I chose to walk away from it because there are so many other tunes that are simply 2-3 verses, bridge, and chorus (1 page) which are far more manageable. Hats off to both of these kids!
trombone reveal of the year
I have no idea what they're saying, but the vocals are mesmerizing! Love Martina's smooth voice! And Josh is unbelievable as always. Thank you!
My Josh! Your versatility in interpreting any type of music is amazing.
Josh Turner is not only a musical genius but a language genius as well!
Viva o Brasil!🇧🇷
Nice little "Samba de Verão" reference at the end of the trombone solo.
Aguas de Março is one of my favorite all time songs, especially the Elis Regina and Tom Jobim version, and you both knocked it out of the park!
That solo was simply superb, one of the best I've seen for this song
Josh and Martina you totally nailed it! Great handling of the Portugese lyrics! Only one in a hundred get it right! you were amazing!
I don't even know what to say here . I was expecting it to be good...but I was not necessarily expecting it to be among the best recordings of this song i have heard, from the overall vibe to the tight ensemble and , perhaps most importantly, down to the pronunciation of every syllable ( which I am by no means an expert on, but I didn't hear ANY identifiably English sounds from Josh.)
Thanks to all involved for this performance!
