We’ve talked about how Mark was taken down by the Viltrumite Anissa who has a mission to produce an offspring with the Viltrumite of earth, and it takes a long time before we see Anissa again, but eventually she returns in the story on Omni Man’s Moon base, as she happens to see Mark for a moment saying funny seeing you here, causing Mark to grab her by the neck and slam her against a wall telling her to back off, as Omni Man yells his son’s name telling him to stop, but Mark tells his father to back off with an extremely angry and serious face, while Anissa tells Mark that he doesn’t understand how much she actually enjoys what he just did and it makes her wanna speed up their next “meeting”. Mark gets disgusted and walks away with Omni Man questioning Mark on what exactly is going on, but he doesn’t get a response with Mark just saying nothing.. Just nothing. Now as the story moves on, years and years go by after Mark tells Eve about what Anissa did to him, so the next time Eve sees her she attacks her immediately making a big scene, and when Omni Man breaks up the fight hearing once again that Anissa did SOMETHING to Mark, he grabs her by her neck screaming with all of his might, WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY SON, but Mark once again says nothing.. And they just let her leave.

Yall need your listening and reading comprehension tested cause you guys are lacking. He said "instantly triggered all the racists" not that everyone who hates her in the show IS racist. People who lost their shit at the race swap and the people who were gonna give her a chance and just don't loke the character because of how she's written are different sets of people.

The reason why people got mad at her was the revelation of her knowing about Mark's secret since his fight in the campus, where she saw him almost die to the reanimen. If she truly cared for their relationship she should have cornered him on the spot because of how dangerous his life is. Instead she waited for him to break a promise even knowing how important his hero work is, making any solid argument at her favor fall over her entitlement over a delicate situation like Mark's job.

@@FullMetal8192 First of all, he didn't save the world and she didn't complain about him being gone while doing something important. She was unhappy with him lying about his situation and for not committing himself to hanging out with her. He let his hobby take precedence over the girl he's dating.
The main thing I dislike about her is her personality. She’s just obnoxious in the way she talks early on. She talks like she has some sort of superiority complex over everyone and it seems like she gets some sort of sick joy when seeing mark people up and hurt. I’m willing to chalk up some of the main complaints to writing errors since her being manipulative during the whole “reanimen” incident didn’t make a lot of sense. In the new season it seems that they’ve toned it down and I really don’t mind the new scenes that she’s in so it seems like the writers have listened to the criticism and I think the show just keeps getting better
What’s wild is that if you just replace her with someone like RDJs Tony Sark but keep all the lines the same then people like you would be singing the characters praises. However in season 2 they’re doing a much better job portraying how amber would feel, even if she forgave mark she’s rightfully down in the dumps about how irregular their time is together

This horse has been beaten to death, but allow me to get some good kicks in.
While a portion of the audience (which I suspect is quite small) for the show undoubtedly hates the Amber race swap, that isn't the reason people hate Amber as much as they do. The problem was that Amber somehow, with zero prior indication, knew that Mark was Invincible and that she ultimately didnt care. The intention of the scene is to try and show that revealing your identity doesnt necessarily mean that the relationship problems are fixed.
The way its written and presented is that Amber is seemingly saying "I dont care if you're out there saving people, beaten half to death trying to help others, what about MMMMMEEEEE?" This is then followed up with Amber getting back together with Mark following Omni-Man beating him to within an inch of his life.
So Amber makes the case that the relationship isnt salvageable because Mark isnt there for her. With no fixes whatsoever, and within days, she gets back together with Mark.
Its written terribly. Granted, it's not the only problem I have with the show, and its somewhat... Subpar writing, but that's the primary reason people dislike Amber. She's badly written.
Her frustartion was understandable until she reveal that she knew about marks secret for weeks.

My problem was that there was a different way to make Mark look like an “asshole.” In the show she was very upset that he didn’t tell her when they could have made it that she was upset by being left alone all the time and it took an understandable toll on her. A secret identity is pretty fucking serious and he just wasn’t ready yet.

Season 1 had Amber written annoyingly as she knew Mark was a superhero. In season 2 they fixed her.
How did they fix her? They didn't go back and re-write what happened in season 1, you don't 'fix' something by putting a tarp over it later.
I wasn’t upset at the fact they changed her character. Honestly like her in the series then in the comics. But it’s just the fact that she couldn’t accept that he had other responsibilities on top of keeping it a secret. It would have been really sweet if she knew and played along until he told her and she admitted that she knew. But played along until he was ready, but loved him for who he is when being a super hero and the person who he wants to spend time with.

Honestly, I was almost fine with the whole thing. I just think it would have been better if we were shown when she realized it. Because the ‘plot twist’ where she has known, probably a spur of the moment written piece to make her seem smarter, while it just made her seem more nonsensical to the audience. If we could have seen her discover it, and when, it would have been a lot more easy for her to make her points without angering the audience.

This dude really looked at how they changed the girl, who is literally a big narrative stepping stone in the story for the main character, changed her, then called anyone who dislikes the change. They literally went off the main source material with her which is never a good sign for a show

Didn't know about the comics until the show came out, had no interest in her character after how she was in season 1, but it's good to know she was handled better in the comics rather than walking in after Mark had his dad whale him nearly to death saying "This is comparable to you not telling me you're a superhero" before having a complete character retcon the next time she appears.

Hers was just pissy. I get feeling neglected from thinking he’s ditching on her, but once she puts together that he busy saving lives, something that she claims to all about, this should be a no issue

I admit, that was a weird choice on their part to skin swap the character. I kinda want to look at it as "same name, but different continuities" but I don't think even that justifies it.
Its double standards, if a white character turns black in a new adaptation its fine but if its a black character who turns white there would be an uproar about it.

The only flaw is that the writers are simply writing a character and not a black character there’s a little nuance they miss out on.

The problem isn’t that they made her black (she looks more Indian than black anyways) it’s that in the first season she is terribly annoying…she’s sitting here like “yeah so you are a superhero, who cares. I should be your number 1 priority.” Luckily they changed her in second season.
Its never about her being pissed about mark dipping, its about her knowing both why he vanishes and why he doesnt tell her.
I just don't like that she has the same haircut as Mark if you get rid of the tied up part of her hair

What's funny is how hard they are trying to make up for it this season. Now she magically did this 180 out of nowhere.
I was upset with the character at the end of the first season becuase she was a hypocrite. She was mad that Mark kept lying to her for being late and eing absent, however, she told Mark she always knew he was a superhero. So her getting mad about him disappearing especially when her life was in danger made no sense when he was there to help her in his hero costume.
I dont care much about personality changes or skin changes because that shit didn't matter until you decided to change it.
But having her know that mark is a superhero before they go to the college and still have her get mad at him and dump him was the dumbest thing they could have possibly done. I have secrets that i still havent told my own family no matter how small, if i had superpowers im not gonna tell some high school girlfriend

I believe season 2 did her so much justice. While I used to hate her, I began to empathize and actually start to like her
