agreed, Nahida also did say that the only difference that there is between Dvaling and Apep is that Apep is older and has absorbed a lot more elemental energy in her life. and since we know Dvalin is not one of the sovereigns... yeah. it's also weird how for some reason Mihoyo chose not to mention Azhdaha in that moment, who is a Dragon as well. perhaps that might also be a hint towards the fact that Azhdaha is even more different than both, ergo: a former Sovereign who is even older and more powerful than both.

Now that it's version 4.4, and we know dragon sovereigns like Neuvillette can reincarnate, Dvalin is no longer disqualified from being a Dragon Sovereign. We can even suspect that being a dragon of any element is the same as being a dragon sovereign. And anybody who isn't a sovereign gets to be just a vishap.
when we get a confirmed dragon sovereign, things will be more clear, if they have dragon king in their titles, then your idea is probably right, this would explain why there is no mention about "dragon king" in that book.

That's an interesting..... interpretation. I mean the text constantly refers to Apep as the ruler of Sumeru, and has Apep making a deal with Deshret to sublet part of it while Niebelung is still kind of around (after it dies and before it returns). Nahida says Apep has "always" seen itself as the ruler of Sumeru, but then again what does Nahida know of times before the coming of gods? Perhaps she isn't exactly a normal god since she's linked to Irminsul. She does say the time between the first and second Divine war was "millennia", ie between Apep being overpowered by the PO and being overpowered by Forbidden Knowledge. Also someone claims Apep was around when the first [non-dragon?] life on the planet was created. It sure sounds like Apep is the sovereign of Sumeru / Dendro.
On the other hand it might explain why Forbidden Knowledge seems to only appear in Sumeru (specifically Eleazar and Withering) if literally only the Dendro dragon sovereign tried to use it. In that case that failure was merely a footnote to history and their efforts were of no consequence. That sounds about right, but another interpretation would be that Forbidden Knowledge is present across Teyvat but in different forms and under different names. This relates to the broader question of whether Abyssal power and Forbidden Knowledge are essentially the same things or different things.

It's possible that either there are 7 dragon kings as in the 7 sovereigns and Nibelounge is just one them

Azdaha is a direct descendant of the dragon king or someone close that would explain the " Natured by the Dragon King" part because we have to keep in mind even tho Azdaha is a Geo dragon he can manipulate 6 elements

Interesting theory but however in zhongli's 2nd story quest he explained that azdaha is not a real dragon but rather he was a rock spirit and that the geo archon carved out his body to something similar to a dragons then again i could be proven wrong
That was the storyteller who said this part, and he's known for overexaggerating. Zhongli said he didnt make his body but only gave him eyes. Azhdaha himself said he's older than teyvat and knows about the old world which is the world that was once ruled by the sovereigns

1. It's "it" in-game, examples:
Nahida: We've found it... Apep, the Dendro Dragon.
Paimon: Paimon knew it would be big, but... not THAT big!
2. It's "he" actually in Russian/German translations (those languages do have grammatical genders unlike English so it's mandatory for words to have a gender).
Therefore, we can debate whether it's he or it, but we safely know it's not a she.
whatever, SHE sounds like a woman.
female voice actor + and potrayal of character apep is also feminine
e.g. Goku japanese voice is female but she potrays her voice as male
another example i remembered is roroni kenshin protag also has female VA potraying as male voice

Just in case you're arguing for it: Venti has female VA and feminine portrayal, even porn with him is 90% him being feminine. Still a male.
