I remember reading this story once in a mechanic's magazine. And basically, the story went; the woman came into the shop, complaining about her brakes not working. The mechanic checked and the brake pads were entirely gone. Just gone. He asked the woman how she even drove it to the shop. Her answer?
She'd just been using the parking brake for the last month.

Reminds me of the time I stopped to help someone with their car, a woman, I asked her what was wrong with it, she proceeded to tell me she thought the battery was dead, then proceeded to crank it and the starter turned it over just fine, indicating to anyone who actually knows anything about cars that the battery was in fact fine. I tried to explain that to her, and she hit me with "I'm a mechanic I know what I'm doing" then the ACTUAL mechanic walked away and went about his day. I love how even if this particular video is staged, everyone in the comments have come out to share their experiences with women who shouldn't be near cars. Here's mine: one time in high school, I saw one of the popular girls pouring oil into her gas tank. I freaked out a bit and told her not to start her car, and luckily she listened, but the fire department had to come and flush the engine out. So that was fun.

Civil service, all young guys on driving duty, the only job available there. One had to refill oil on one of the cars. Asked gas station clerk for a funnel. Got one. Came back, said it's too big. Gas station clerk was scratching his head. - Turned out the guy had struggled to refill the engine oil through the measuring stick hole.
I took the opportunity to explain the 710-cap to him. 😆
But that's nothing compared to years before I did my civil service there, where a guy had to top up engine oil and took the topping up a bit too literally. 😂 Imagine the mess at the gas station when he tried to start the engine. ... Well, oil pressure was definitely sufficient. 😆

The only women you should protect, are the ones in your immediate social group, such as your wife, daughter, sister, etc. If you destroy your life helping a woman you aren't even in a relationship with, it is no different than abandoning the women that currently do count on you for support. Yeah, I know how that feels. A lady ask me if I can see what is going on with their AC. I look at it and ask her a few questions. The answer came to a leak issue. Luckily found the leak at the service ports and have confirmation to replace two shraeder valves and instill freons. I told her, "it is going to take some time to recover the freons and set it in a vacuum. Will that be ok? Do you need to go anywhere?" She was notified and said nothing. It gets worse. An hour later, I was putting in freons that came with the dye. She insist that I put a stop leak in the HVAC system. I told her, "no, madam. Those do not work." Her face expression was like, "you calling me stupid?" I explain to her how it works and corrected her that the cans are either false advertised or the can is self-sealing that doesn't leak after use. She rant at me for 2 minutes. I pack up my stuff and left.

A couple of years back in Sydney, a man stopped to help a young woman having car trouble. He was a mechanic and he was able to successfully help her. She was very thankful to him and he went on his way, thinking all was well.
Next day he received a visit from the police and he was arrested for sexual assault. He was thrown in jail and the incident was picked up by the media who ruthlessly attempted to destroy him. But at least he had his loving wife by his side, right?
Wrong. She believed the young woman. She believed that her husband, to whom she had been married for decades, had sexually molested the young woman. So she kicked him out and left him.
And then, it was discovered that there was a security camera covering the alleged site of the rape. Eventually the police got around to actually viewing the footage and it showed him helping her as he had stated, and nothing more. So he was released. The woman, of course got a slap on the wrist.
I don't know whether he got back with his wife, but personally I would have never spoken to the unfaithful btich ever again. I imagine he will never look at a woman the same way ever again.

Former technician here. People in general are largely ignorant of the inner workings of their vehicles. There are 3 skills that will save you a headache and money. 1 learn to change a battery, 2 learn to put on a spare, 3 learn to check your tire pressure (all cars have a sticker on the driver's door telling you the PSI of the front and rear)
In this case the car likely had a refrigerant leak. In today's world this is usually due to an O-ring failure. These o-rings can be bought for a few dollars. In a worst case scenario this is the condenser coil puncture. All the techs I worked with knew this, and would bring in their cars after hours and save themselves literally hundreds of dollars in repairs. Knowledge is power. Use the internet.

I got a screw driver from my car and scraped off the cap contacts and rubbed the rotor on the asphalt. Put it back together. Told her to start it and vroom. Running good. Wouldn't listen to a single person tell him otherwise, until somebody got a lawyer involved. The guy was a complete moron, but in his mind he was literally the most brilliant person in the world.

Truth be told, the auto makers are making even basic maintenance a bitch a perform. Imagine having to drop the nose of a car, and remove the headlight assembly completely, just to change out a burned out light bulb.
Yeah, THAT was rude surprise Ford had in store for my 2016 Fusion.
That and it took me 40 minutes to change the battery. Keep in mind, I have multiple tools, both standard and metric wrench sets, plus socket sets. Just to give an idea, due to the battery's location, Ford had to make a custom, three piece fitting to attach the negative cable to the negative terminal. You won't find THAT part at any local NAPA.

@@tailgunner2 Point made, but that has hardly any relevance to the OP's comment. It would of taken literally 30 seconds to open up a browser tab on your phone and search "why does my A/C not work? I can assure you that NONE of the results would of said "hook jumper cables to your car and another to recharge your A/C" It would of taken another 30 seconds to find the most common issues for the above mentioned issue, from lack of refrigerant, to a small or large leak to a mechanical issue with the compressor.
Imagine, if you will, where we live in a world where we have literal pocket computers to do research pretty much ANYWHERE, yet somehow we have the most stupidest of people. Now, imagine back in the 70's/80's/ and 90's, where that did not exist. There was no internet to tell you basic things, or even advanced things. If you were lucky, you had a basic booklet that told you some information about your car. Yet, I cannot fathom nor imagine seeing people back then being THIS stupid despite the lack of knowledge. I firmly believe technology has given people the ability to not only be incredibly dumb, but ignorant and completely backwards whereas one would think it would be the opposite.

      @enlightenedchipmunk2001 Před 2 lety +24

@SpeCifiC0507 The reason you wouldn’t see people back then doing this, is because they didn’t have the internet and cameras in their pockets. Today, everything can be recorded and shown to the world at any given moment. This makes it seem like stupidity is more rampant.
