Awesome afternoon fishing the Hinemaiaia River. I started this day on the Tongariro but was too windy. Thought I check out some new water and was rewarded with some great fish.

I think of all those years driving past the Hini in such a hurry to get to the Tongariro River! Oh, all those beautiful moments I missed! Lovely river, but a bit scary when it suddenly goes down to a meter in depth because they have closed the gates at the dam, but there is a benefit, you can wade across the river and recover all your flies (and everybody else’s) from the bushes. Good fishing. Harera....

Sitting here in Aus watching your videos gives me the biggest dose of cabin fever. My favourite river in the area, small and intimate and I know it well. The beat you fished doesn't get the same pressure as other parts of the river, can be quite overgrown at times but its a beautiful stretch of water that most neglect. BTW, have you tried using tippet rings to tie your dropper off your leader, the dropper being a lighter line so if you do happen to snag up, you only lose the fly?

Thanks for your feedback. Glad to hear your enjoying it. I have done but I like the surgeons knot largely because it’s free. Will definitely keep them coming!

Have you tried the sliding knot for your top fly? Have found it stronger than the surgeon's knot and lets you change the depth of the fly. Just have to replace the tag every half dozen fish because the line wears out when it slides down the tippet during the playing of the fish. Good video. Cheers

Thanks! Yea I tried it recently and it worked. However I was changing it more so every fish because I worry your line becomes more visible from when it gets pulled down with the abrasion. I think I will change between the two knots in future depending on situation.
