Cheesecake fights for his life! (GSCRL Championship 2023)

- Cheesecake is back and ready to take on the world! This championship event was the ultimate test of engineering and driving, so let's see how it went! Cheesecake is my 1lb combat robot, a much smaller version of the robots you see on BattleBots and Robot Wars. The same basic rules apply here.
The tournament is a double elimination bracket. Each fight lasts 2-3 minutes. You win by disabling your opponent so they can no longer move. If your opponent cannot move, they will get counted out on a ten-second countdown. Even if they can only drive in circles, that is enough movement to avoid being counted out. If both robots are still moving at the end of the fight, then the winner is declared by a panel of judges, who score each robot on damage (done to the opponent) aggression (how much each robot initiates the engagements) and control (how much control you have over your own robot). Drivers are allowed to tap out at any time during the fight. Drivers may also request one "unstick" if their robot is stuck on the arena.

Cheesecake needs a bigger brother, Beefcake!
Great one wheel driving against Temper!
Poundcake
Best comments I've seen on here LMAO!
Only issue with "Poundcake" is Cheesecake already weighs a pound.
Since Pound (currency) is a British thing, and so is Stone (Unit of weight) Stonecake?
I mean a 14lb version of this thing would probably be a serious threat to everyone's life, but it doesn't need to LITERALLY weigh 1 Stone lol
Cheesequake
@@Nevir202 I mean, dogeweight (15 lb) is a thing in some places
It's worth mentioning, mudskipper's big sibling is monkfish
Kind of broke my heart watching poor Cheesecake get dismantled like that.
Tis but a scratch.
It can be, for sure. But such is the cycle of combat robots- build a bot, watch it grt destroyed, build it better next time.
At the end of the day its all about fun
This was a great watch! That last battle was fricken epic 😂
I don't know, I think the dredge of 2 bots fighting down to their last just before topped it.
Glare: Get a linear (or, in a pinch, circular) polarizer filter for you cam. Just twist it until the glare disappears. (Has to be done each time you set up the camera or when the sun has moved quite a bit). It's cheap (any make will do, even aliexpress filters), and it works a charm. I promise you, it will be an amazing improvement! ❤❤
I know you don’t have the biggest audience, but these videos are great! I like how they’re always consistent, and require little background knowledge to enjoy. I know this is unrelated, but I wanna say that Temper has an absolutely impressive design for an antweight. Congrats on beating him!
Thank you! I honestly have more audience than I know what to do with right now, haha, but I won't tell you to *not* share this video with your friends ;)
@@alexsalchemyjust found you today and loving the content
I'm incredibly impressed with how tough Cheesecake is. Typically the tougher a bot is, the less damage it's capable of doing (and vice versa) just due to the weight restrictions. But somehow you managed to build a bot that is both incredibly destructive and surprisingly resilient at the same time.
He min-maxed defense and offense all within one pound
I like how it took the ant weight version of *Tombstone* to finally take out Cheesecake. Keep up the great content.
I wouldn't compare it to tombstone except the weapon being very large it's very different
@@feritperliare2890They're probably comparing Mudskipper to how devastating Tombstone is.
I think cheesecake is more of carbide/2016 cobalt
These videos are awesome. For not having a very large audience, you keep up with uploads on a regular basis for the style of content really well, and the balance between technical explanations and fighting action is perfect. I really hope to see you gain some traction and popularity on CZcams, because this is epic.
Its really a testament to Cheesecake that it could be basically ripped into pieces, and still have drive, even if the next hit knocked his battery out. I love seeing how he has developed over time, and even built rivalries and specific modifications for different bots.
I really love these videos, they bring a smile to my face, and some of the fights are really close. Watching cheesecake essentially explode and carry on fighting had me shocked. Even with a wheel down, his drive seems excellent and you did exceedingly well in maintaining controlled movements.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad to hear that people appreciate the technical explanations alongside the action and storytelling!
It was honestly pretty great to see Cheesecake take so much damage. Now I know what breaks and what doesn't, and I have some ideas for making him even stronger :)
Absolutely loved Cheesecake's journey to the top. Your enthusiasm is infectious and I can't wait to see how you modify cheesecake to beat mudskipper in the much needed rematch!
Absolutely loved this, entertaining as always. I can't wait to see your design solution to the problem of mudskipper.
big wedge
@@biaxolotl5171*big stupid wedge
Great video, enjoyed every second. Your commentary and insights into: scoring, damage, tactics, upgrades(+the thought process) were much appreciated.
Real shame the back-up bot didn't go - I'm glad you didn't tap though, finals should end with a bot in bits.
Sorry about the cake slice, forgot to ask at the event but hopefully it wasn't the only copy. Was cool to see it working in slow motion, I definitely didn't expect to go through it! I need to work on my driving some more but it's a little difficult when you always take out my wheels 😂. Great fights!
You do combat robots???
@@cheese.161 yep! In this video shin kicker is my robot
Great video and a good run! Having fought Mudskipper quite a few times at competitions in the MRCA, I can say he truly is a nasty bot. Perfect driving is a necessity, one small mistake and he will punish you for it.
Truly amazing fights, while I can respect tapping out to preserve yourself I must give props to the mad "just send it" nature in that last fight. Well done!
These are the best videos i see on youtube no matter what every time they come out, and it always brings a big grin to my face!
I'm glad the Cake Slice was able to hold up pretty well on Cheesecake! That was some very good driving vs Temper to take out his shuffle pods with only one wheel as well.
This was just amazing! So happy I found your channel and started following you. I think these were the most exciting battles yet!
The fights just kept getting harder! It was amazing!
that Mudskipper fight must just be the Definition of a "good loss" cos holy hell that was a beatdown and a half! 😍
I am smiling from ear to ear watching that last fight. That was amazing and some of the best robot combat I have ever seen.
That was incredible. What a set of fights!
Also, great narration/commentary and editing as always.
This was so awesome!! Thank you for sharing these videos! And your experiences! It's so much fun!
Cheesecake: "HEY MUDSKIPPER! I didn't hear no bell."
Poison cheesecake, we all knew when temper took a bite out of cheesecake
Wow, what a final fight! Can't wait to see what comes next and what weaknesses you will be able to address for next time.
man i just wanted to let you know I have watched you since you began your chanel I love how you have evolved cheesecake over the months you even inspired me to build my own 1 lb bot keep up the good work.
That's awesome! What kind of robot is it?
My bot is a horizantel tombstone type bot we have the metal frame complete we just need to get the internels in. I can believe you responded to my comment that means a lot to me thank you.@@alexsalchemy
I really like the Cake Slice, the idea I had that you may consider is that the Cake Slice can be reversible so it can be either on the bottom for your original intention but also reversed and then flipped and equipped on the top to turn into a Cheese Helmet, if you had two of them, one on the top(most likely with a spacer equipped), one on the bottom, you could really protect your motor from the bigger undercutters for a longer duration. Just a thought. Let me know what you think!
If I'm understanding you correctly, I think that is something I wanted to try! I'll need to redesign the chassis to find some spare weight, but having one Cake Slice on each side (top and bottom) would basically create a big shield with a weapon sticking out of it. Come at me, bros!
I have to agree- I think if you put a heavier "armor shield" over the front like that, it'll be much more durable from the front@@alexsalchemy
it seems to me if you were to sacrifice armor in other areas for a solid defense on front, if you could keep your front facing the enemy, you could mount heavier armor in comparison to your opponents-
I think he also meant that you could put the cake slice on the top as top armour? for robots like temper I’m guessing.
And then also two could be a option if you got inverted I guess.
@@alexsalchemy It would also help with keeping the front of your bot on the floor during exchanges since you'd be removing weight from the back and adding it to the front. Since the center of gravity moves forward towards the weapon it would become more stable but you'd also have to worry about facing attacks head-on since there'd be less armor anywhere else.
At least, that's what I think applying what I already know from building crappy vehicles on Roblox building games; I know nothing about actual robots.
Awesome! And you are a great sport, and a true competitor along with being a top notch community supporter!
I just wanna thank you for putting out such great content for this hobby! You do an amazing job at conveying the information in a way that people new to it, and seasoned veterans can both get the same info at the same time!
Great video! Really love your iterative improvement and changes! Fight 4 was crazy!
Especially loved the "Oh god, I'm screwed!" at 12:50.
New subscriber today! I’m going to binge your entire channel with my kids this weekend!
Incredible breakdowns, context, and fighting going on here. I can't wait for the next one
"I believe this is the first time cheesecake's weapon has been taken out ever" LMAO he obviously never saw young cheesecake.
Omg at 9:20 that 3d printed weapon shock hub is something I thought about too. Awesome to see someone implement an idea you had independently :)
That design goes all the way back to the very first version of Cheesecake! I saw so many other antweight robots with direct-mounted weapons getting killed, so I figured there had to be some way to shock mount a weapon while still direct-driving it to save weight.
@@alexsalchemy I actually developed some turbomachinery seals out of 3d printed (slm) inconel. They used basically the same spring design. Just super cool to see :). I'm wondering how well this would translate to a battlebots sized weapon. Would be fun to stick accelerometers everywhere and test the shock loads.
Amazing bot! Great work! Thanks for sharing.
Great channel, can't wait to see what's next
this was awesome the temper fight was so well executed, i think you could handle mudskipper as well, thanks for showing this much fun!!
Great video as usual.
Cant wait to see if you manage to come up with something to counter the heavier shuffle bots, because the weapons on those two looked scary as heck.
So happy to see a new video!!! Just about to watch :D
i have been following you for a while and brother you are great! keep up your hard work and i'm sure you can go into the big leagues!!!!!!
i enjoyed cheesecake running through these tournaments , thanks for the awesome vids and insight
You're a class act and I really enjoyed the insights you shared down in the comments!
Great fights, all of them!
Thank you . Great upload and tournament.
Amazing video, respect to your bot and your skills !
Haven't gotten into robot wars in a while and cheesecake is a brilliant little bot killer . Enjoy these videos tremendously. Thank you
These vids are great. Always excited for a new one
God I love these videos. Always fun to see robots fight, and great to learn about topics like strategy and engineering. Not to mention growth as both drivers and the bots evolve with experience and time.
Im loving all of the upgrades that you add for each event! It really shows how dedicated you are to combat robotics.
#wheelsaretasty
Awesome fights! Have you thought of designing some kind of limp mode for when a wheel is disabled? Possibly using variable weapon rotation?
Great job with everything in this video-- the production, the narration, the engineering, the pacing-- everything!
Awesome video man, love it.
Just found your channel, really interesting!
Please keep these videos coming!
Any chance of a more in depth build video before cheesecake goes in for another bout?
Thank you for sharing with us! Was kinda heartbreaking seeing cheesecake go down :( I was convinced he was going to take out both the shufflers. great job!
Cheesecake had the dog in him for sure, lil man was swinging till the very end
What an amazing introduction to cheesecake's tournament.
An epic journey with a unpredicted ending.
Very well put together by you, a truly gifted builder and extremely good sports person.
No sore losers, just exceptional ambassadors to this growing technical "sport".
Thank you
Good video!
Great watch excellent pacing.
Loving this series! You make me want to build a bot of my own!
Great battling!😊
This is top tier content.
Your naration is great, and your voice is close to cerial killer, confident 😂
love to watch your videos gives me inspiration
These videos are so much fun! Thank you so much for making them. I didn't even know there were weight restricted robot wars but with all the CAD and 3D-printing these days it makes so much sense. I love competitions where designers are so free to realise their ideas!
Two things I'd like to share
1: Shufflers are OP. Designers have shown to be able to create shuffle mechanisms almost equally capable to wheeled set-ups, this means the weight advantage shufflers enjoy is no longer offset by a lack of mobility and should be removed.
2: I think that through iterative improvement (the best kind of improvement) you've arrived at a brilliant design for Cheesecake. Maybe there are some improvements possible design wise, but the law of diminishing returns applies.
That's why I think the biggest gains in terms of combat effectiveness available to you right now come from increasing the controllability of Cheesecake. You are experienced at controlling her but still her movements looks skittish and hard to control. Maybe you could increase the smoothness with which the motors react to your inputs so you can more precisely control her movement and weapon.
I literally learned about this entire sport yesterday so please take my word with a ton of salt, and to anyone reading my ramblings this far: Thanks!
Go cheesecake!
This channel feels way bigger than it is. I keep looking down expecting cheesecake themed merch!
amazing video!
Thanks for sharing those Ant Weight Fights.....👍👍
subbed! took it long enough for the channel showed up on my recommendation
Cheesecake is the people's champion. thanks for sharing this. was very entertaining to follow.
That Cheesecake vs. Mudskipper was AWESOME! awesome as in looks, im sorry for your loss.
Ive been watching for a singular day. This is my third video, and i love them!
Cheesecake needs a brother though.
I dont got a name, lol
That was awesome. A really great fight to watch. Thank you
When I saw the Cheese Slice, my first worry about it was that it would transfer the energy from the competing bot's weapon into Cheesecake's drive motor mounting screws and either shear them off or break the frame
Cheesecake is a little tank! Great fights vs Super Space Turtle and Mudskipper, thanks for the awesome recap video.
This frantic silliness has me on the edge of my couch leaning in and catching my breath at the big hits! 😂😅
Love this series!
great video it was fun pitting by you at this event.
im sad that impulse wasn't spinning up properly that could have been a way more brutal fight
great job at this event Cheesecake was brutal
Cheesecake is a little beast! That weapon of yours is devastating when it gets a good bite into any material really. Awesome fights!
This was nothing short of awesome
Wow that final fight was something else, i loved how Cheese Cake took some heavy hits but continued moving!
I love the cheesecake arc. And so fun that you keep the names of his tools consistent with the dessert theme 😂
The way cheesecake took the win against temper wile beeing wounded like tis is amazing. And I really enjoy the comentary on your adaptive parts.
Didn't realize Antweight was this fun~ Cheesecake is a great lil bot, can't wait to see more of him!
Also, shout out to the great sportsmanship you show. Even when you beat an opponent you highlight their build and even show other victories they had, just awesome man.
It's honestly very easy, these are some of the best people I've met. If there's a tournament near you, I would highly recommend checking it out:
www.robotcombatevents.com/
Hell ya! Run whatcha brung! Never tapping out! 😂😂
I love how you learn from your opponents, see what worked for them and innovate on it.
Wow, what a series. GG
Do you think you would change your drive to the jitter feet so you can have 50% more weight? Seems if them things are allowed in the antweight, they will quickly take over
I love your videos, I would really like to make a full body spinner antweight bot but have no idea where to start yet! First I want a full plastic one before getting more advanced stuff.
Honestly, the Viper kit from Fingertech is a great place to start, even if you just use its electronics and build your own mechanical parts around them (that's what I did for the first version of Cheesecake). Some full body spinners you can look at in the antweight class are Hypnovision and A-Minus.

truly amazing fights, when cheesecake keept fighting through the weapon loss, i imagined it yelling "TO VALHALLA"
Thanks!
I like your enthusiasm.
You can use a polarisation filter for your camera to remove the reflections from the plexiglass next time. :D
I love your video's and look forward to the rematch against mudskipper. I do wonder what you come up with next!
What an amazing tournement!!
Best video yet!
That was really cool! I really appreciate the narrative though out for those of us who aren’t familiar with the rules.
We love cheesecake, glad to see another competition
WOW! What a show! I thought cheese cake was your baby. But you fought relentless! total savagery! What a emotional rollercoaster! And then you said it: "the front fell of". I nearly pissed my self! 🤣
Good stuff
"I'm going to go for the drive on the sides"
*proceeds to drive directly into the weapon*
Love this, I hope to see more Cheesecake in the future.
Thanks so much for sharing! Cheesecake went out swinging.
That was insanely entertaining, looking forward to more
Would it be possible to use small diameter titanium rods as a kind-of 'cage' to protect vital components in the future ?
The last bot I made utilized a reinforced interior cavity, but unfortunately I was not able to use very much higher strength armor protection overall :(
Watching that last fight actually got me a little teary eyed omg I love cheesecake so much
