Filled with oddities, scenic beauty, history, and a sense of adventure, it is no wonder that the Mojave Road has such an iconic stature. Formed as an early Native American trade route then an east-west passage for settlers, the road has a long history. Passing through the Mojave Desert Preserve and the Lanfair Valley, you are remote and far from civilization. Today it is one of the more famous overland routes in the southwest. Although the road is not at all technical, the sense of adventure you get by being so deep in the desert is what makes it worth the trip.
Join Joshua Noesser in his Jeep CJ7, John Lumia in his Jeep Wrangler JLU Rubicon with the Ursa Minor Top, and Greg Martin in his ZR2 Colorado as they take you on what many have said is the ultimate overland adventure. This is day 1 of this 4x4 scenic trip known for some of the best desert camping in the world. So sit back and enjoy this epic overland camping trip.

Thank you for the great video. My first trip to Afton Canyon Campground was in 1973. We were running the Manx fiberglass dune buggies. We would camp at Crucero where we would ride the sand dunes. Unfortunately the area has been closed. Very fond memories

yeah, that was a cool area back in the day. It is sad how many areas have been closed that future generations will never know about. If you have any photos, please post them on our website. We would love to see them.

Just did the Mojave Road for my birthday weekend! (01.08.21) What an awesome trail. My favorites were the Joshua tree forest twisties and the WHOOPS! I giggled over every one :) Thank you for the detailed write up and video. I used your GPX tracks in Gaia and it was flawless. Hope to see you on the trails soon!

First time out on the trail was 1991. Got stuck in Afton Canyon in our brand new Explorer, as the canyon was completely full of 6" deep pools and I found the only 5' deep water hole. Buddies got the M 561 Gama Goat 6 wheel drive articulating truck to come out from Razer Road station and rescue me. Last year I stopped at the Razer Road gas station (after wheeling the trail in the same 91 Explorer) and met the new owners. The Gama Goat sits behind the station and hasn't run in years. They'll sell.
