Loss, grief, aging, and dying are human events, not medical events; they are not problems but natural conditions of human experience. For millions of years, human beings have survived losses and died naturally. Medicine is an ally to maximize quality of life, if needed.
As Doulas of Life, Death and Transition, we are in charge of cultivating, providing, and defending the human approach, considering all aspects of being-physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual-in caring for the grieving, the ill, the dying, and their loved ones.
