The Gettysburg game that Avalon Hill got right - a game for newbies with enough depth to keep most grognards satisfied that can be both taught and played in a single evening.

We played a bunch of this game back in the day. Had a lot of fun with it.

Really good starter or quick game. Wish there had been a brigade version too. The "advanced" rules in general 25/5 magazine were really good too.

Thanks, I'll check out the "advanced" version.

I never hazarded the original ‘Gettysburg’ advanced game rules . I mainly played with the brigade units standard rules.

    Damn, I miss Avalon Hill.

I had the pre 88 version. Unit counters were square, and the dice had but 6 sides.

It's always seemed to me that the AH games could easily be converted to being computer-playable as either 2-player or solitaire. But if anyone ever did it, I missed it.

There have been a few at least, but they have slipped under the radar. Normally done by independent creators rather than companies. Wizard's Quest is one, but I don't know if that is still available.

There is now doubt about the looking for shoe idea

      Not surprised.

No doubt about it. That idea was repudiated by the fact another Confederate division had passed thru the town a day earlier and taken anything worth stealing.
