Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp founded Farm Aid in 1985 and serve on the board of directors. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

i used to have two cats. yes, poncho and lefty. poncho lived a few years then disappeared. never knew what happened to poncho. lefty lived until he was 18 years old. moved him numerous times. broke his pelvis when he was about 13 and did ok. i was so sad when he had a stroke. bumping into things, falling off the bed and crying. crap. poncho and lefty. obviously, love this townes van zandt song because lefty died about 15 years ago. damn, now i'm feelin' old...thanks for the post. p.s. now i have a cat named sybil. go figure.

My wife's hair has steadily gone grey since her late 20's. Like Emmylou, she looks every bit as pretty as the day we met, and gets complemented often about her hair.

Her mom started going grey early as well, and by the time I met her she had blended dark/grey hair. So it's genetic in her family.

I was at this show. About 3 years later, Emmylou was touring the Heartachs & Highways disc & played with Elvis Costello at the Promowest in Columbus. After the show I stayed after to see if I could get my cd signed by Emmylou. Not only did she sign my cd, she also invited me onto her bus and we talked ,just the two of us for about 10 minutes. The absolute highpoint of my concert going experiences. Emmylou was everyday people, like the girl next door,& she left me with a hug

He did. Emmylou recorded it in '77. Willie and Merle recorded it in '83. Townes died in '97 at 53. Parsons died at 26.

I saw her and Rodney at the Magestic about 10 days ago. Great show. Still looks great in her mid 60's. Recall seeing her, Don Williams and Waylon about 1976. Didn't realize at that time what a great band she had, because I was there to see Waylon. Took a girl about half my age. I'm not sure she knew who she was watching.
