Super Stellar Friday: Understanding the August Sky

    August has many celestial delights instore for the informed observer. Dave will lead an exploration of what can be seen with the unaided eye, binoculars, and a small telescope. There are intriguing constellations with some historical surprises, planets galore, special stars to marvel at, and a prominent meteor shower. We will learn about the celestial sphere, the zodiac, and some aspects of quantifying stellar observations. All this will be followed by a planetarium dome presentation immersing you in the night sky as you sit back in the comfort of our digital sky theater. The sky will never look the same.
    David McDonald, M.Ed., has been passionate about space since he was in middle school. Dave has previously been the Director of Education at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center for ten years. He has instructed astronomy classes at Granite State College, NHTI, Plymouth State University Graduate School, and currently at Belmont High School. Dave brings a wealth of information in an understandable way featuring his light-hearted approach to exploring space science.​
