    Declawing is banned in my country (switzerland). A pet isnt a doll. If you cannot handle the nasty stuff (like scratching), you shouldnt get one.

      Exactly... If you can't stand barking, don't get a dog. If you can't stand scratching, don't get a cat. People still don't get that and treat animals like they were toys. I moved in to a completely new house with new furniture etc, and my cat obviously wanted to try them very quickly. Luckily carts are quite easy to manipulate and we had a chance to quickly move her scratchy needs to other objects specifically designed for it. It's called positive reinforcement. Your cat will do anything you want if you have a good relationship, they're not stupid, you just need to know the way to change their behaviour. And there is a special tape designed for the areas that your cat won't stop scratching, put the tape on and suddenly there is no scratching at all.

    • @treeaboo
      @treeaboo Před 5 lety +6

      Properly trimming a cat's claws is a good way to prevent getting scratched (and also to not get poked when they knead on you), got to make sure to do it just where it curves over, otherwise if you go deeper back you cut into the wick and that's very painful and very bloody. You need to trim your cat's claws if they're an indoor cat, and make sure you have plenty of scratchy posts.

    If you declaw your cat, other behavioral problems will also occur due to the pain. The litter now becomes very horrible to touch, and they will use your bed or carpet instead. Please don't declaw, it's an amputation.

      All of these comments about how declawing is abuse is kind of making me feel bad. If you knew anything about cats, you would know that there is more than one procedure to declawing your cat. The most common way does in fact cut off part of the pad (which wouldn't be equivalent to your entire fingers, but rather the tips of them.) There's a way that uses a laser, which doesn't cut the pad, however, it is expensive. And there's a way that doesn't cut the pad, but it's very time consuming so less vets perform this way. My cats are declawed, (by the third procedure listed) and they act perfectly fine. Please think twice before calling declawing abuse.

    When we went to the shelter to get a new family member, we thought it would take a few days to pick our next cat. Nope. We looked at 6 cats and one of them liked both of us and when he saw us leaving, he got in the window and started howling. After lunch, we went back and adopted him. He walked right into the carrier and laid down. He's been here a little over a year and he's almost completely trained. He's much different than our kitty who passed away but he's awesome. So now we all have an extra cat. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Sometimes cats choose their owners.

So i believe their intelligence lies in different areas. Its important for a dog to fit into the group, and its important for a cat to be able to live alone. But cats can also be social of course. Mine are very social, but only with me and my family, they dont like other cats or humans. Cats have other expressions than dogs, and people that dont like cats, dont understand them.

      No its harder to train a cat, exactly because its not as social, as a dog, but that doesnt mean the dog is smarter. But you cant leave a dog outside, without food, and expect it to survive on its own, especially not in a cold country. Does it mean the cats smarter? From the beginning we chose to live with dogs and cats, because of how they are. Thats why we dont train tracking cats, and let the dog out to catch the mice. But i must say most cats seem more calm and thinking than some dogs.

He even had a particular meow he used when she called to him, a sort of double meow that he never used any other time. He loved to play in my ex's hair, and one day while she was sleeping I held up a strand of hair and went "Oooooohhh!" to which he came running. From then on and for the rest of his life he associated that sound with her hair. I miss that cat more than I miss her, and she was pretty.

    Declawing a cat is inhumane!!!
    And if you declaw your cat, and he/she likes to go outdoors, the poor cat can no longer defend itself, risking the cat to serious dangers. Also the cat can have some serious infections. Will have trouble using the litter because it just hurts too damn much. Can't walk properly because of the pain. Can have trust issues with humans. Will be living a sad life.
    How would you feel if someone cut off the first joints of your fingers and toes?!
    If you can't handle a cat BEING a cat, then don't friggin get one!
    Those who deal with furniture being damaged, buy a cat scratching post (of different kinds to see which works best for your cat: cardboard, wood, carpet, jute)! And trim their nails every 2 to 4 weeks by a professional if your furbaby is a hassle to handle for nail trimming :)

They called him Rory and estimated that he's around 4 years old, had a completely clean bill of health and his paw would heal fine. So I brought him home and I spent 3 days n my room with him until he was comfortable enough to meet my dog and explore the house. Turns out he's a Brown Tabby/Bengal mix and an absolute gem of a cat, more obedient than my dog. I can relate to him, we're both stubborn, laid back, calm and loyal.

    I already knew that declawing a cat is considered animal cruelty. Claws are a huge part of a cat's life. Cats rely so heavily on their claws to do the most basic things, such as climbing, catching prey. And cats will only scratch you repeatedly if they feel threatened, so this definitely proves that anyone who declaws a cat is genuinely an animal abuser.
    To the people who support declawing a cat: How would YOU like it if your teeth were removed because others were worried that you would bite too much? How would you like it if you could only eat runny foods for the rest of your life? It's the exact same pain a cat goes through without claws.

      Not just removing nails. Amputating the toes. The claws grow directly out of the bone, so the entire last joint of each toe is cut off. Cats are digitigrade animals, meaning they walk on their toes (look at the skeletal structure of a cat paw) so a declawed cat has to put its entire weight on the stumps of its amputated toes for the rest of its life.
      It was invented so that the cats used as bait and killed in dog-fighting rings wouldn't fight back and hurt the dogs. The fact that it's still carried out is horrifying.

My step dad had the front claws removed on my kitten while I was growing up, and she still ended up being an amazing huntress. She would jump and whip her back legs out, using those back claws to grab her target and then bite the hell out of it.
    My real dad has a cat that had an accident that led to an amputation of one leg. He still protects the house from rodents, and he can still climb everything he used to. Cats are very deserving of their reputation for incredible cunning.

If a male cat is peeing everywhere then geld it to avoid that behaviour. If a cat is scratching furniture then maybe you should buy a scratcher for it? Don't punish the cat. @Jessi and Wayne: Even when my water bottle had water in it, with my hand tremors I don't think I ever hit a cat directly with the water stream. Like Wayne said, it's the surprise factor. I honestly think now that it's our physical motion of reaching for the water bottle/gun that, as Wayne said, lets them know that "I see You". We have ALWAYS had several scratching posts of different varieties but 2 out of my 40+ cats refused to use them. What worked for those 2 was a carpet sample swatch that was their "own carpet". They learned that the water bottle meant "go use your own carpet" while the majority of our cats learned it meant "stop being an idiot and go use the scratching post".

    People think cats are lazy and think dogs aren’t, because cats are spayed and neutered most of the time, because of that they are constantly tired and napping. Feral cats aren’t as lazy as domesticated cats. Ppl dont usually neutralize and spay dogs because of that they don’t sleep for long periods of time

      anyway,she was dynamic as hell and kept meowing and scratching the door

      eventually it was too annoying and i had to get her out but she was quite calm once i got into..she kept purring and all of that but i don't like keeping pets unfortunately i gave her to the shelter
      so yeah i approve most feral or stary cats are very active and dynamic but the domestic ones are more used to comfort and petting..they wouldn't even survive if you abandoned them unlike stray cats who get their food by themselves

      @medinahuseinovic7680 Před 5 lety +7

      Cats aren't lazy they are meat eaters and therefore biologically have to sleep more for the meat to process through them and give them energy. I mean just look at wild cats they sleep just as much as an indoor pet cat does. Do your research before saying things you are not educated on.
      Edit: If you think spaying and neutering isn't a good idea then look at what the end product is.. kittens being euthanized at shelters because the shelter cannot give 24-hour care for them. Do the right thing and tnr (trap, neuter, return) community cats, feral or not it is best thing for them.

      @stopreadingthisusername9528 Před 5 lety +10

      I'm a potato Okay, no. The reason domestic cats most of the time appear more ' lazy ' than feral cats has more to do with how they were raised. A cat who grew up in a more laid back environment with a comfortable bed, toys and food without them needing to do anything themselves will be less active than feral cats who are more exposed in the open where there's bigger dangers and they constantly need to fight for territory and their survival.
      If you're against neutering, that's entirely your opinion. However, please show some actual evidence of how neutering might be damaging a house cat's stamina rather than just using blatant stereotypes of what people think house cats are like. I myself own a cat, and he's the most hyperactive little fluff ball who's always running around the house.
      The reason why people neuter or spay their pets is not because they just want them to calm down, but because it keeps population under control, prevents your cat from attracting strays and causing fights and prevents diseases as well as behaviour issues etc. It has little if nothing at all to do with how ' lazy ' your cat is.

Both the cats don’t show pain, and don’t have behavioral problems. Pipa (One of the cats) has no claws in her back legs, but has them in her front paw (She’s a three legged kitten).
    Simon (the other cat) has no front claws, but back claws. They believe Simon was born with this, as a family cat had some kittens, and that how they got Simon.
    However, with Pipa, they don’t know. They got her as a kitten from a shelter (not-so-fun fact: The previous owner had abused her and that’s how she got to three legs. Very evil person finally in jail) but the shelter didn’t know how come she didn’t have back claws, nor did the stupid abuser.

      Ana Adams peeing everywhere is stopped easily by castrating ,they mark their territory when not. Also,it helps to have one litter box more than you have cats, like two cats need three boxes. My boys don't mark anything.

    • @Mystress1980
      @Mystress1980 Před 6 lety +33

      I think Ana may have meant, with declawing come the pain of stepping on litter. Some cats will stop using their litter box because it literally hurts too much to stand in. :(

    • @CatLadyofUtah
      @CatLadyofUtah Před 6 lety +16

      What Ana meant was cats will pee outside of the box to alert their owners of a problem. Whether it is painful paws or a medical condition (bladder infections and crystals in their urine are the first that come to mind). They also pee outside the box if the litter is not scooped regularly or if they don’t like the type of litter in the box. If the litter box is placed in a spot that’s difficult for them to reach or if they’re are not enough boxes for multiple cats. Also if they are stressed or anxious, they will pee outside of the box. As for castration, that does not guarantee your male will stop “spraying”. And spraying and peeing are two separate things. Also, contrary to popular belief, female cats will spray. Cats will spray if they are territorial, if they have unwanted feline visitors in their yard, if the house is cluttered and they can’t smell their scent, they will spray. They will spray on their persons belongings for security. If they are stressed out from illness, their human traveling, major changes in the household, these are all reasons for spraying.
      But since this is about declawing a cat, I’ll reiterate that I AM GLAD TO SEE DECLAWING CHARACTERIZED AS BAD AND SHOWS THAT IT IS AN AMPUTATION. AND YOUR CAT MAY INDICATE HOW MUCH IT HURTS BY PEEING OUTSIDE OF THEIR BOX.

He was loving, followed me EVERYWHERE no matter the time of day, and would call for me until he would find me. He gave me some scares two times during two nights (he liked to explore, but there's coyotes around my area) and after he saw me crying and shaking, he would always wait for me on my mom's car or under the porch light until I got home from work.
    He hated when I stayed up late and bothered me until i turned off the lights and phone-- which improved my sleeping habits.
    He would cuddle me when I was starting to slip into my dark days-- which would snap me right back to a better state.
    He refused to let me out of his sight.
    He came EVERY time I called him... except for one evening... I miss him very much.

      of course not! its actually scientifically proven that the breed of most black cats (Bombay) are more affectionate then other cats. the guy's right, it has nothing to do with their color. but every BREED has different qualities than other breeds which might make you want to have that cat more.

She never claws or bites, and she is quite content. My first cat was much the same, and he loved to lay on my chest and sleep between my knees (i am a stomach sleeper). He also liked to help me read, lying on my chest between me and my book. RIP Blue, i miss you, buddy.

    Love this! I hate how everyone picks cat by their colors. That’s how my mom got my all white cat with blue eyes when I wanted the black or ivory ones in his litter. I do have other cats. A black and white, a tabby and white, and a black tabby with a tiny bit of white. Their all very sweet, but my cat Finn, the white one is very tolerant. Really I feel that people don’t raise their cats right sometimes. Not that there’s necessarily a right or wrong way, but if you get a cat when you wanted a dog you should get a kitten, and cuddle and play with it as much as possible. Play with it with your hands instead of toys (although it’s still good to have toys) and that way it’ll learn to play bite, and claw, but almost never actually hurt you. My cat was kinda playing with my hand the other day, and wrapping his fangs around my finger instead of biting it to play. He’s actually kinda a dogish cat. But that’s how I raised him. I chase him around my house, and viscera. It’s his favorite way to play, and kinda rambunctious. Also, I taught him from a young age that it’s okay to pet his belly, so he doesn’t mind it too much. As for secret language, if he’s scratching the couch, then I let out a chch sound and he usually stops. He also understands a good bit of normal human words. Once I was getting stuff to clean out the litter and he was walking by, so I asked him “you wanna help me clean your litter?” And he perked up and followed me, not leaving as I scooped his litter. It was like he understood me. (This is way too long, I’m sorry but I’m still gonna leave it here and if anyone makes it this far you are strong)

    I can't stress enough, cats are social creatures. Don't get a kitten if you are gone most of the day. Its like leaving your own kid in isolation hours at a time. Yeah, they will eventually get used to it, but it is still cruel and wrong. I personally hated it when young couples rent the apartment upstairs and decide to get a kitten. They leave at 6 or 7 am and they don't come back until the evening, Idk what the heck they are doing but I always see a kitten crying in the window the rest of the day.

      @IMarkovic1995 please tell me more, also explain feral cat colonies

    • @omgods1
      @omgods1 Před 5 lety +4

      @IMarkovic1995 It is true that they are more independent than dogs and they they can "take care" of themselves really well, but that is not my point. They can take care of themselves very well, however that doesn't mean that they don't require companionship. Cats do feel loneliness and the lack of stimulation can lead to destructive behaviors, excessive vocalization (kitten crying in the apartment window) and sometimes a "feral" temperament (people wonder why their cats are not so attached to their owners like dogs are, that's probably because of the lack of time spent with them and the misconception that cats are these robotic and completely independent creatures that fuels that relationship dynamic). Sorry but, if my cat was independent, why does he come running and follow me around (despite having a designated feeding time)? Why do cats follow you to the bathroom and wait behind the door? Room to room? Sleep on your bed even though there are other comfortable spots to sleep on? I also believe they can get as easily bored as we do. Despite having enrichment toys in animal shelters, cats, both young and old, really do thrive in attention versus solitary confinement. Also, separation anxiety occurs in cats as well, such as the excessive vocalization and even urination on the owner's belongings. What I am trying to make my point is, cats are social creatures, its just their behavior can be very subtle or misunderstood for some people.

    I've always adored cats. I love all animals but I've always just been a cat person. I have 3 now I guess. 2 indoor cats and 1 outdoor who is a stray that showed up one day. She was starving so I fed her and now I guess she's mine. Lol. My 2 indoor cats were rescues. I've had my female Josie for about 6 years. She's laid back, loving and just a sweetheart. Unfortunately she was declawed when I adopted her. I've had my male cat-Christof Max Drago Stewart-my daughters helped name him but I call him Christopher-for almost a year. He's younger than Josie and he's kinda uptight, not very loving-I always have to go to him for loves unless he wants treats- and he's just a cranky, butthole sweetheart-if that makes sense. It wasn't on his paperwork when I adopted him but one of my friends actually noticed several months after he'd been here that he was declawed also. I think it's a horrible thing to do to a cat and I believe it's lazy and selfish to have that done to them. Josie got outside one day last spring. She was outside for over 24 hours. I cried for hours while I searched for her. She had never been outside before and since someone had her declawed, she wouldn't be able to protect herself or be very self sufficient. Luckily we found her hiding under my old car in the backyard. She seemed to be just as terrified as I was. I just don't understand how a person can do that to a pet. I'm all for having them spayed or neutered. I actually think it's a really good and important thing and that's what responsible pet owners do-for the most part. But the idea of having my baby's nails ripped out of their body is horrifying.

      Robert Snider agree with you a 100%! we adopted our recent cat when she was about 8 months old. she was a rescue from the streets and she put us through hell for the first year at least! but we kept going and let her do her thing. I never forced myself on her, if she didn't want to be around us or be held I would just leave her alone. eventually, she completely adapted to us, is super nice (though still a little scared and jumpy and DEFINITELY hides when other people come to visit). I wouldn't have it another way anyways! I prefer to earn a cats respect and affection, its more special that way. I respect cats for their independence
