  • See the way different Land Rover models cope with a set course. Make your choice to which is the best.
    Axle twister course demo even ground different vehicles. One winner. ( well a few but the ones that failed either don't know how to use their traction control or they don't have it!! There some very nice Land Rovers on this video..The driving skills is really what gets a vehicle through and the driver should be aware of its capabilities..

    Freelander 2 does fine off-road. Took my D4 to the LR off-road day here in Melbourne and they were using Freeo as the demonstration vehicle. It did everything bar rock-crawl.

    this a great video comparison of the different traction and suspension systems. Some lockers on a defender and it would be a real weapon

    I was impressed with the articulation of the independent suspension in the LR4, but you can really see how a solid axle setup is best for off roading.

    • @Russh1
      @Russh1 Před 7 lety

      Technically a Discovery 3/4 is not independent suspension because once you reach a certain angle the cross link valves open and you essentially have a solid axle like setup, without the clearance issues of 3 to 4 inches of diff hang you get on a solid axle setup.

    • @trainman665
      @trainman665 Před rokem

      But solid axles reduce ground clearance. And one without traction control is useless if wheels on each axle lose grip.

    With the new technology L/R has to loose traction before it gains traction but with the manual diff locks you never have to loose traction......So stuff new technology......no wonder some of us prefers the old ways

      As a DII owner I quite agree, I retro fitted the CDL. On wet greasy grass we found our old RRC worked better than the DII. Using TC means more power than often is need to get the system to work, there for less control and or increased trail damage. However if you combine traction control with centre diff lock that's a different story....

    Those Defenders need some diff lockers

  • @Thecougar66
    @Thecougar66 Před 9 lety

    So don't the newer model defenders have traction control? The TC on my disco 3 seems to work very well. Unlike the freelander my wife also owned nothing worked; viscous coupling, IRD unit, ABS, hill descent, sunroof, elec rear window, cylinder head gasket, steering pump all failed in the same year. Then it cracked the cylinder head! She traded it in for a subaru forester. Better performance, loads more mpg, more spacious in the back & better in the fields. I've actually used the forester to pull my disco out of snow! (I still prefer my disco though:)

      I agree...tires are the difference in these videos. I just installed a beautiful set of Yokohama Geolandar GO15 all-terrain on my 13' LR2. While I don't do this kind of weekend activity, these tires provide the right amount of everything for everyday use AND the occasional Safari trip lol
