Nice roof, But like anything a home owner does to his house the main concern is price and savings.
Agreed! With the federal solar tax credit still at 30%, it is more affordable than you'd think to include a few solar arrays while replacing old asphalt shingles.
This family is now able to offset some of their monthly energy cost because they are generating on-site! Include a Powerwall battery or two to store that excess solar energy, and you're safeguarded against power outages AND still using solar well after the sun has set.
I would love clarification on this statement from the IRS (BELOW) Reason being, I am interested in the GAF solar shingles (Energy Shingles). With this, GAF or the contractor I am using says that I need GAF Solar HDZ shingles to support the Energy Shingles and these aren't your typical shingle... they are specifically made for this type of roof. Would I be able to receive a 30% tax credit (granted I have the tax liability) on the entire cost of the roof, or just the GAF solar shingles? My tax preparer couldn't give me a clear answer and IRS isn't helping either.
Q. Is a roof eligible for the residential energy efficient property tax credit?
A. In general, traditional roofing materials and structural components do not qualify for the credit. However, some solar roofing tiles and solar roofing shingles serve as solar electric collectors while also performing the function of traditional roofing, serving both the functions of solar electric generation and structural support and such items may qualify for the credit. Components such as a roof's decking or rafters that serve only a roofing or structural function do not qualify for the credit.
Always need to consult with your tax professional, but we have had customers claim the tax credit on the entire roof and others on a portion of the roof. Replacing the roofing materials around the "active shingles/tiles" is part of the cost of going solar. Since it is an integrated system, the asphalt shingles could be defined as part of the overall "solar roof". Again please consult with a professional. This is not tax advice.
Still looks and screams solar roof, which is unfortunate. The transition from panel to asphalt is too contrasting.
I like it also it does somewhat reflect the sun thus decreasing cooling costs which is the majority of the electricity used in your electric bill
Agreed. I don't understand why GAF and CertainTeed don't develop a shingle to be installed with their solar shingles that has a similar look. The active and inactive shingles should look the same. If not it looks like traditional solar on a shingle roof, just without the 3" gap.
How replaceable are these if the they break and/or need to be upgraded. Also even at 45w that means those 78 shingles only made 3.51kW. Need a pretty big roof to get to say 10kW
When you get Timberline Solar installed by a GAF Certified Installer, the warranty provides 25 years of coverage for Solar Power Output, among other things. You shouldn't need to upgrade an existing system any time soon. Plus, this product is durable, so replacements are rarely needed. GAF has published content where they dropped a 20lb medicine ball onto the shingles from 30ft with no damage!
Here is an example of a 10.08kW roof we installed a few years ago: czcams.com/video/6ISK_fRvFx4/video.html
If a home owner wanted to increase solar shingles for watt usage will this offset single format
The Timberline Solar Shingles have the same exposure as the Timberline Solar HDZ non-solar, asphalt shingles. There is no change in the shingle format by adding active solar shingles.
Cost per sq ft….or kWh?
We use both to determine the price of the overall solar roof system. Figure $600-$700/square plus $3-$4/watt
Can these be installed with a metal roof?
Unfortunately, this system is only compatible with the Timberline Solar HDZ asphalt shingle.
Pewter Grey shingles?
@@ch1ngon Charcoal
Can it be installed on the whole roof surface?
@@siwo972 The Timberline Solar Shingles can be installed on a good portion of the overall roof surface, but the integrated Timberline Solar HDZ asphalt shingles need to be installed around the arrays (due to fire set backs, eaves, ridges, walls, rakes, obstructions, etc..)
Is there an option for unlimited mph winds ? 135 isnt enough for Floridians 😂
Wait...Whoa...10 Watts per shingle? No Sale!
This was a typo - it's actually 10 VOLTS per, or 45 watts.
the only thing Is the actual solar shingles look weird and stand out like a black eye on the roof. reason I would never put solar panels on the roof. maybe they will fix that in the future so it all looks the same. and not some weird ugly patch work on the roof.
Tesla Solar Roof is a step up, price wise, but it does exactly that! Seamless, stealthy solar integration. Check out some of our other videos and see what you think!!
270w per row? Thats it? 😂😂
That’s a volt meter. We misspoke and said watts, not voltage. Sorry about that!
45 watts per shingle.
