- My third flight of the day, we are off to Tokyo with Japan Airlines from Dallas. What separates JAL from others for long haul flights? It's a 13 hour flight and we'll see what JAL has to offer and why its a great way to travel long haul. I highly recommend travelling with JAL to enjoy this wonderful experience yourself.

From my experience, JAL and ANA tend to be on the pricey side for intl travel, so it may be worthwhile to book via another Oneworld (or SA) partner. For example, American in this particular case.
Oh, I did book through American! I couldn't get a seat assignment online, but I called them after booking and got it.., but yes, you are right. I checked JA and the same flight was nearly twice the price.
I flew ANA from the US to Japan and United on the return trip. The difference between customer service and meals is night and day. If your budget allows, go with the Japanese airlines.
I was bumped from Hawaiian Airlines to JAL on an HNL-NRT flight a few years ago and was so happy it happened! Now I am flying from HNL to Kuala Lumpur and decided to fly JAL economy class over other premium econ. products. Great price, great airline. I love their 787 configuration. It is often said they have the best economy in the world....I would believe it.

Long haul flight like this, I always pick aisle seat over window seat. It’s easy to get up and go to a bathroom, go walk around for some stretching without bothering your neighbor.

I flew from Phoenix to Bankok via NRT in February on ANA. It was very nice but had the traditional 3-3-3 configuration. I just booked another trip to Thailand for next February on Japan Airlines and was so excited to see it was 2-4-2 as I need to sit on the aisle (claustrophobic) and my husband likes the window, so this is a win for both of us. Nice video! Really enjoy your narrating and unbiased review. Would love to try JAL 787 in international config. Our longest flight has been from YVR to HKG at 10,227kms (6392 miles) on Cathay, also a lovely airline to fly on. Safe travels!

If you book through another airline and they won’t let you select seats, call the airline you booked through. They should be able to act as your “travel agent” and get you into the seats you want with the other airline. I just did this with my Japan airlines flights booked through American and they were very helpful in getting this done.

We flew ANA from washington to haneda back in january and it was the best flight I’ve been on, we are gonna be flying JAL this December from Chicago and after your video I am looking forward to our flight in what looks like the same 787 setup

My longest flt a 16.30 SFO SIN, but I made a an immediate connection from NYC🤯. I was completely beat, despite flying SQ which was amazing!

Hello, I came across your video rather accidentally and I liked it very much.
First time I see this kind of seat configuration in Economy on a 787 (2-4-2). It is normally a 3-3-3. This one used by Japan Airlines looks exactly as you mentioned, "less cramped". The colour of the seats is very comfy.
Interesting when you showed a window seat which actually has no window at all. I wonder if you know a site called aerolopa? It is the best site for airline seating maps as the site provides the biggest and the most detailed seating maps on the internet. They do not have all the airlines, but the main world carriers are there. Their diagrams are incredible and they show all those seats with no window.
I have your video downloaded to watch later on and I really missed a watermark on it, so I could remember who is the owner of the video!
Wow, real silverware cuttlery in Economy? This is premium customer service offered by JAL. And the way you keep everything clean and organized on your tray after the meal deserves a thumbs up.
I did not know of this website. I usually use the airline's seat map. JAL and other airlines in Japan usually indicate which seat has no window. I'll take a look at this website for other airlines! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks, Andrew for a great review. My longest trip would be MEL (Australia) to Paris CDG, via Ho Chi Minh City. The SGN to CDG leg is 10,131.05 kms and the MEL to SGN leg is 6692.02 kms. If you ever fly to MEL, I can highly recommend JAL Premium Economy. You won’t have any problems sleeping in these comfy seats. 😊
Would love to visit MEL! All the way to Paris is quite a treck eh. JAL prem econ is on my list!
Unfortunately, JAL doesn't offer Premium Economy on its Melbourne route - it uses the same 787-8 plane as Dallas to Tokyo with only Business and Economy; to get Premium Economy would require taking JAL to Sydney on their 787-9, and then doing a domestic route to Melbourne.
I am doing a similar flight from the UK in November 2023 with JAL,but they changed my plane from a 787 to 777 . Thanks for your breakdown

Great review! I just booked a JAL flight to Japan, and am so excited. I once got bumped to a JAL nonstop, when my original American Airlines flight was cancelled, and the experience was incredible. Flights from LAX are reasonably priced, too!

My longest was only SFO-HKG until flying JFK-SIN this past January. Incredible flight, and didn't even feel like 18.5 hours -- perhaps its your mindset when you board the flight?
Need a good mindset for a flight of that length! That jfk-sin flight is definitely an endurance!

Sometimes delays are unavoidable. It's good idea to remain calm. I hope it was a nice flight to Dallas.

Yes. Depending on booking class there may be a fee.
I visited the land of the rising sun this February and it was my longest flight, also DFW-NRT via American. January 2024 I’ll be going again DFW-HND via JAL.
Flying to hnd is going to save you a few hours after you land. Winter is a great time to visit Japan. Enjoy!
@@theglobalpeasant exactly what I was thinking. Also I believe they are no longer doing the japan entry and Covid stuff at the airport so it should be really quick. With that and the NRX it took a while to get to shinjuku where we stayed this year
