- Hey All! As I continue to work to make better videos, I'm trialling voiceover for my reviews, to make them more personal & relatable (as you would have also seen in my last review about Qatar Airways' A350 economy class). I know that this video is by no means perfect -- but I'd really appreciate your feedback & help as to how I could improve my videos. My goal is to make these flight reviews the best on the internet, so any feedback (positive OR negative!) would be very helpful as I try to best share my inflight experiences with you. Thanks!

18 hours ugh. United needs to get on the ball with the meal service. 14 hours apart? Crazy!
Even on Polaris, meal service is just not that good, especially on 18 hour flight. Would rather choose Singapore Airlines flight over United. (They also operate SFO to SIN nonstop, ironically code-shared with United)
That is inhumane. The small sandwich offered mid-flight looked unappetizing.
18 hours on United sounds painful 😂😭
Basically jet lag on wheels.
18 hrs on a Boeing 😬
So note to self… bring snacks, and an extra blanket, n a good neck pillow for my 20hr flight ✔️✔️✔️
I could never do 18 hrs in coffin class.
😂
I totally agree with you, 100%!
Given the price of the return flight, and had you had prior knowledge of the inadequate cate catering and thus armed yourself with some food or snacks before boarding, I agree that this was an ok flight. The legroom was really good compared to others. You are definitely going in the right direction ... videography and voice-over are great. I was going to suggest chapters, but I don't believe you need them, and their use might lead your reviews to become formulaic. Very enjoyable...thank you for posting.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! To be honest, the flight from Singapore to SFO wasn't really as bad on the food front (I think just because I slept for almost the entire flight, it takes off at 10pm and lands at 10pm; so I wasn't really awake & hungry for much of the flight like I was here. If I did this flight again I'd absolutely bring some snacks!). I posted this video though instead of the last one just because that one is entirely in the dark, so it's not as interesting to watch.
Great video thanks
I’ll be retiring soon and will be traveling to Asia . I’ll be flying JAL. Worth 3x the price of any American carrier . Great economy experience .
Great video
What a pain in the neck! 😖
I wonder how Airlines like United survive the competition. Nowadays there is not one single US carrier left that I would consider to fly long haul!
That’s why I fly EVA when I go back home to the US from Asia. Very good service.
@@brucesmith9144 So do I! 👍
I flew United a few years back to China in Polaris class. The seat was awesome, but we had the same deal with meals. One very nice meal served right away, and then never saw a crew member until about an hour before landing. They served breakfast, even though we were landing in Beijing at 5pm, and same on the return, landing in Chicago at 6pm.
I recently did 16hrs, 51 min in the air SFO to SIN on Singapore Airlines in Premium Economy. It was fine. I managed to get a cheap ticket, less than United's economy price at the time. The crew was great and the Book the Cook choices were pretty tasty. Still, it was an endurance.
Premium economy has a lot more space then economy so don’t act as if you have done something extreme
Fine what do you mean just fine ? Singapore airlines is a great airline in my opinion the best airline, the other good airlines are Emirates Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Japan Airlines, Korean air, KLM, Swiss airways, And Lufthansa. United airlines is nothing compared to those airlines. United Airlines is very average, American Airlines is also very average, and Delta airlines is very average. US’s airlines are very average sometimes below average they’re ok, but not that good I don’t recommend flying with US airlines on long flights. I think Malaysia airlines is also a good airline. British airways and virgin Atlantic are good airlines, but the top airlines are Singapore airlines, and Middle Eastern Airlines, and also Japan Airlines and Korean air.
@@aravchandra3572 I'm 196cm tall, mostly legs, so the extra legroom is still barely adequate on an ultra long haul flight. The headrest was stuck and couldn't raise, so there was no neck/head support on a 17 hour flight that was entirely at night. The seats themselves were very shallow in my opinion making the calf rest useless. The hard product leaves a lot to be desired.
My friend that is a flight attendant for United said to me that there’s no incentive to improve the meal service when most flights are sold out. I guess that makes sense if what they’re serving doesn’t seem to be affecting business.
Just a heads up, this isn't United's longest flight. It is their longest regularly scheduled flight though.
The longest is Houston to Sydney but it's only a seasonal route.
Perfect weather at SFO this day.
Great report thanks for sharing, I recently flew BA to Singapore and the food plus portions were great, they also had snacks readily available. That said, I would generally choose to fly an Asian or Middle Eastern Airline, I gave up flying on US carriers pre-pandemic. Safe travels
It is better to choose Asian airlines. The meals in economy seats are very good. Asian food is abundant.
I agreed with everything you said about not enough food/meal for a 17-18 hour flight, they serve the same amount on a SF to Japan flight for 10 hours.... but the $1000 roundtrip is a good price from NY to SIN.
18 hours and in economy!! Heck no 😂
I can’t even keep still on a 5 hour flight from HNL to LAX/SFO. Ain’t no way I’ll survive that long. I’ll take a layover any day.
No tea or coffee service? TBH, and I'm trying to be polite here, that came across as a real "budget airline" experience when compared to, say, Singapore Airlines on the same route.
Singapore has direct from ny to Singapore. It uses a359 in a 2 class layout.
Premium economy and business.
Less than 185 seats. look up SQ 21 Sq22 from Newark to Changi
@@qv6486he probably knows but doesn’t want to pay for it
Always take snacks, you only do it to yourself you know
You are a trooper sir - hats off to you! My longest flight is about 14 hours on EVA to Taipei from the west coast (economy class too). There's no denying its a long flight no matter how you slice it. I would like to know your secret on how you got such a deal only two weeks prior to your travel day. I have been able to score similar deals, but I had to book 6 months in advance. BTW, have you tried SFO to Singapore on Singapore Air? That's one I want to try. Safe travels - stay well. 👍
On Delta main cabin long haul flights they give most all sustainable products including wood cutlery, spoons, and fork.
Nice review. And I agree that having two meals on this flight is fine (in theory), but the timing is really messed up. I wouldn't avoid United Airlines completely - they're basically OK, but if booking economy, I wouldn't fly them on anything over 8 hours.
Great video. Did you check in a bag. Were they strict with the weight
I checked in a bag and had no problems with weight, although I do have Star Alliance Gold status (through Singapore Airlines) so I wasn't worried about having to pay.
the airliner posted!
Very nice and crisp review. I traveled this week between Delhi and San Francisco by Air India non-stop in economy. A 15 hour plus flight. Very old aircraft, un-updated interiors, dirty toilets, some toilets clogged midway and shutdown, non-functional inflight entertainment, very indifferent and rude crew, inconvenient meals with a snack, breakfast and lunch served at odd hours, late departure and late arrival leading to very very anxious transit experience at SFO, poor transit experience at Delhi from a domestic flight etc., etc., Air India says it is replacing aircrafts, re-training crew consequent to takeover by Tata Group etc., but very difficult to believe them. I suggest you do a review of the Air India long haul economy class travel, as early as possible because it is an inhuman experience we underwent. Not just in one flight but earlier 3 flights as we had to make 2 round trip flights. To crown it all Air India website still doesn’t allow you to book your journey from any other airport other than JFK, EWR, ORD and SFO to which they fly to and from India. However their inflight magazine lists United, Alaska as their partner airlines! Compared to Air India United seems to be much better
that little sandwich looked sadder than the kind of sandwiches that Air Koryo(North Korea) serves on their flights. :(
Every United trip report I watch, the food is exactly the same no matter the route or time. It is always butter chicken from the same company. Also they have cut snack choices down to one.
I agree with you on catering. Fourteen hours between meals and no snack set up in galley makes no sense.
I'm so confused about the 18 hours. I'm taking this flight in a couple months and it's supposed to be around 16 hours. Are you counting from the time you boarded until the time you deplaned? You mentioned wind. Did that slow you by 2 hours? Great video by the way
Yeah -- the flight ended up being about 17 hours in the air but we took about an hour taxiing to the runway & such. (perhaps I'm stretching it a *bit* to say 18 hours but it's pretty close; and some days this flight does take 18 depending on the winds). I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and have a great trip!
United is a option for me, or SIA. What about MNL?
Hope they ve good services
After used to kick out passanger 😅
I did this way back in 2004 when I was flying from Los Angeles to Japan. 16 hours I think economy..will never do that again. I am 6.4 and at the time about 300 pounds. I was lucky it was on Thai airlines and their economy back then was equivalent to most business class, they no longer have flights out of that airport anymroe though.
I flew this exact same route a month ago on economy plus and the entire experience onboard was dreadful. The cabin crew could not be more indifferent and unfriendly, the meals were nearly 13 hours apart, snacks were not readily available and the seats were uncomfortable and stiff.
Never again will I put myself through this ordeal and will fly with an Asian carrier.
This would be torture…18 hours😡😡😡
I did a 12+ hours on United 787 economy and I had such a bad time. My back was so painful after the flight. After this flight, I have decided I will at least buy enocomy plus or premium economy on translantic flight.
Great response. I agree with you. Which state are you from. American airlines 787 has no recline
I think all the us airlines have this kind of food issue which the first meal is normal and the second meal is always breakfast on long haul international flight.
Perhaps they're serving breakfast because they assume you are just waking up.
How was the WiFI?
I hope you complained to United after the flight about the meal services. The flight attendants were supposed to do a mid-flight service with sandwiches. The only way to make things change is to complain.
They seemingly did. 8:59 He showed the little sandwich he got about halfway in the flight.
God bless you.
Been down that walkway, 17.5 hrs on A350-900 Singapore Airlines not a comfortable flight!
Why did you choose to fly in economy on such a long flight?
I flew Chicago to Hong Kong on United in economy. 16hrs. last 7 hours was torture.. nice video!
Ridiculous! They should have served 3 hot meals during this flight. And yes, this aircraft can easily fit that amount of catering.
You need to ask yourself why you lot never carry snacks with you. Stop depending on the airlines to give you snacks. I would never board a 14 hour flight without a bag of snacks. I know these airlines only give two meals and that’s all.
First, UA should provide snack in the basket mid flight. Fruits chip etc. The sandwich look like homeless food. Second, breakfast the waffle look soo wet😢😢😢
US and Europe airlines still never can't beat Asian Airlines, sorry but it's true.. the service from Asian Airlines far far away better than this.. hehehe.. thank you for your sharing Sir..
Polaris or Premium Economy = Yes. Coach = No. Did 15 hours to South Africa in 787 coach. Oh my bring back the 767.
Isn’t only 31” of pitch in economy? How can that be stellar? There’s no way that amount can be comfortable on that length of flight when it’s barely tolerable on a domestic flight.
Totally fair question! I'm not sure if the 31 inch number is wrong or if the seats are just narrower (which would increase legroom as pitch is just the distance from one point on a seat to the same point on the seat in front of it), but somehow this "31 inch" pitch felt substantially roomier than what I've experienced on lots of other airlines, where the seat pitch is quoted as being larger. (for example, I felt much more cramped flying Qatar Airways' economy than I did on this flight, for some reason, which is super weird!)
I don’t play the status game but I’ve primarily flown United for a long time . The answer is simple . Except for their 767 fleet they pretty much have terrible tightly packed slimline seats on all their aircraft in economy . A flight like you endured will be miserable for the average person .
我三蕃市飛新加坡 United PE17 小时10 分钟,坐位还可以,但食物真的1️⃣般差. 不推荐. 下次長途1️⃣定吾撰united.
Better then taking a bus.
Emirates serve 3 meals for 12hrs
I would rather take Singapore Airlines, since they are both Star Alliance lol
I would not have survived it, always travel with any Asian airlines
United is on the 3rd world service level.
They have some of the world's horrific costumer service.
Let's not forget the Poor Maintenance service they had in the past few months which led to a number of mishaps.
How can this happen on a so-called 1st world country?
Let's begin to ask ourselves.
They should do better with their meals. For a long flight like that, they don’t look substantial enough. So sad.
Why do people fly economy ? I wouldn’t even do that in business class
Because business class on a flight that long costs as much as a small car, perhaps? Have you seen the prices? Five figures.
@@mattsmith7991 I paid 14k for return flights from nyc to mrs. It’s the only way to fly
18 hours hell no!!
I choose Asian airlines every time I go to Asia, if I’m flying domestic I’ll avoid united at all cost
Ahhh if only United gave half a shit to improve anything in economy and thought of its economy passengers as human beings.
I have boycotted United since 2003 with no plans on breaking it anytime soon. Time hasn’t been kind to them. I’d opt to pay a bit extra and fly Singapore Airlines any day.
Bud. U got exactly what u paid for.
If u ain't in a pod ain't no reason to go
Airlines from Asian countries
Wow UAs food they serve on an 18 hour flight looks absolutely pathetic and embarrassing. That waffle looks like like something they scrapped off the floor in the galley
Avoid them. When all airlines are making improvements, United still trails most of them. In my experience, they are awful.
It’s such a terrible service for a long haul flight.
Pathetic meal service... Come on, United!
2 words: Disgusting meals
18 hours on leather seats, wtf? barely any food. and the food is disgusting. this flight sounds like torture, united is blah
Worst airline in the world. Japan Airline for Asian country and Lufthansa for European country would be a lot better than United
