18 hours on anything is painful

Did you not get a blanket ? I am flying same aircraft soon? I am curious

United is a crappy airline and it will always be a crappy airline. I paid over $6,000 for a business class ticket and had to starve for 14 hours because they messed up my request for a vegetarian meal. The only food options were „chicken or beef ?“ The 5 bags of potato chips which were offered at the snack bar for all passengers were gone within minutes. They offered me a handful of nuts and when I asked for some extra nuts, the answer was „we have only one serving per business class passenger“

My longest flight on UA was from JFK (before the merger with CO) to NRT then back to JFK. I was sitting in the business class on the upper level of the 747, but I thought it was still brutal sitting in there for hours on end.

Can you buy a meal on the flight? 18 hours is crazy. Looking to travel to Singapore in 2025 or 2026 but the flight time scares me . Can't afford more than economy or maybe economy plus. Any tips to help survive? Great video

I flew over 10 years ago with a United 747 -400 from LAX to HKG. Sadly their were only Economy Seats left. Luckily i was able to check in early to get a seat in the first row, isle position, and my keg/knee space was enormous for Economy. We did receive if i remember correctly 3/4 meals & a before landing in HKG small evening meal. Its sad that thevonce stellar service of United got really bad especially for such a long flight. Because of that & because there is no more Northwest Airline's flights i can only recommend Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines or China Southern which all have an outstanding in flight meal service, the friendliest crew imaginable & a great Safety record especially in regards to the maintenance of such extreme long haul flight Planes

And United doesn't follow disability laws either. Never again!

No way. Never ever ever. And I’m a United 1k. I fly Newark to Singapore twice a year. It’s always on Singapore airlines nonstop in business class. It’s one of the best flights I have ever flown.

I took this UA flight in Premium Plus back in April. The meal service used real cutlery and linens by Saks Fifth. The food was a significant upgrade from Economy and even better presented compared to SQ's PE which I regularly fly (although SQ food is much more delicious).

it blows my mind that people dont bring their own snacks on an airplane.

International long haul flights snacks are always available at the back or middle of the aircraft just ask the flight crews. Coffee, tea or any drinks are available as well.

No meals for 14 hours is crazy. But thanks for making us aware of this. Now I know I should always buy some snacks or light meal at the airport to keep in my bag before any flight.

I’m not sure why there weren’t snacks available in between meals- I want to say you could have asked a FA easily and gotten something. Snacks are available in the galley even on much shorter flights. And regarding you comment about meal times in conjunction with San Francisco time- SF is irrelevant, it’s more about “landing time”, and then, the time at destination ( even though sometimes that is still less relevant than “time of landing”). I love flying with Qatar airways business class. the service are really awesome and friendly. I enjoy the wine the food, the wine and the crew. you will feel safe and cared by them. but would love to try other airlines too. just out of curiosity:D

This is actually NOT United's longest flight - at 8,446 miles it's second longest behind Houston to Sydney which clocks in at 8,596 - 150 miles longer.

OMG! You're awfully brave to be flying United non-stop to Singapore! I do agree their entertainment is the best around, however their food is gross (that's the result of them not wanting to spend much money on food; even for Polaris). Their flight attendants regardless of which route you're flying appear tired, unkept (like they just rolled out of bed), over-weight, and totally checked out. I couldn't tell you the last time they put a comb through their hair!!! SFO to EWR is about my limit. Anything longer than that; especially overseas, I'm gonna fly a forgein carrier. Excellent food, extremely well groomed and helpful/friendly staff and nice seats. I will give United cudos for how good their pilots are; consistently the smoothest landings I've ever experienced anywhere around the world!

I flew that same route on Singapore Air on an A350. The food and service was fantastic! Plus they had snacks available in the rear galley.

You are corrected, United flights are usually cheaper than it's competitors, but you do get what you pay for. I personally have not flown United since the 70s for this very reason, they are cheap AND they are terrible.

I did BWI-SFO-SIN-KUL a year ago in E+. I was surprised how seemingly quickly the SFO-SIN flight went. Of course, I'm very used to and comfortable with 12+ hour non-stops but I thought the extra 5-6 hours would be brutal, but it went well. I did load up on some extra food at SFO for the long haul.

Why we can't compete Why I never fly united. I rather. Buy my own.food on a jetstar flight. Stop couple times. And. Get to my destination then ever fly united. WORSE PART IS IT PROBABLY CHEAPER IF U PLAN RIGHT

Please people be responsible for yourselves. Man up. Bring your own snacks,pillow,fully charged devices,2 pairs of quality noise canceling earbuds, good quality wired earbuds for the airplane entertainment,good book,pajamas,throw away slippers, toothbrush & paste,don’t consume too much alcohol. Try to sleep and rest as much as you can. Don’t expect anyone to entertain you. It’s up to you. You’re welcome.

This flight will be at lot faster if Boom Supersonic is able to get off the ground 🙂 They would have to refuel, though. 🙂 A flight like this really must be done with lie flat seats....no economy seat is going to comfortable on such a long flight. 🙂 I would not travel to Singapore, however, as they are not a free country. I would travel instead to the Philippines or Japan. 🙂

Most US airlines have awful service from checkin to seats to general service. International airlines are much better. But the best is Emirates followed by Qatar airlines

that sounds painful TBH. most 7-8 hr international flights have 2 services, for a 18-hour flight I would expect at least double the amount, 3 would be the minimum

If possible always have a zip loc bag of nuts, cookies, a sandwich maybe. Candy or chocolate takes the edge off. Especially on a US carrier. That was pitiful fare, the smallest portion size I’ve seen on any flight report.

Thanks for great video. Without comparison, UA sounds and looks good. Its economy class is only comparable to discount when look at world class airlines in terms of services, food, aircraft interior design, seat pitch, comfort and cleanliness, especially when comparing to some airlines, Turkish Airline, Singapore Airline, Qantas, Air NewZealand, Japan Airline, ANA All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific, Eva Airline, the new Starlux, Emirates, etc. Sometimes, quality services and attention to details, customer needs should come first instead of over emphasis on profits. UA is so profit driven that their economy class is really cattle class. This is especially for domestic flights. Its kind of inhumane that lugguage is extra fees, food needs to be purchased. I just wonder when UA will charge passangers base on their body weight and when airlines similar to UA will be sued on their way of discrimination people riding in economy class.

So in summary I have always known all American airlines to be very bad service and nothing has changed. Thank you for reconfirming for me I am due to fly from Singapore to Dallas and I will certainly be to choosing Singapore Airlines!

i fly both qatar airway and singapore airline as frequently . according to service , food , entertainments and hardware , i prefer SIA.

Great report thanks for sharing, I recently flew BA to Singapore and the food plus portions were great, they also had snacks readily available. That said, I would generally choose to fly an Asian or Middle Eastern Airline, I gave up flying on US carriers pre-pandemic. Safe travels

Qatar sucks. It's a horrible, airlines. They've destroyed luggage on several trips and, have broken into and STOLEN items from my bag. Reporting it does no good. Qatar will make every excuse in the book for their baggage-handlers. Qatar will do nothing to replace stolen or, damaged property. As far as the prices they charge for for seating with extra legroom, etc? Outrageous. Qatar airlines is the only airlines I have had this problem with and, I've flown multiple, different, airlines over the years. My advice is, if you can help it, avoid Qatar at all costs!
