#askeck is the basic language of Star Wars derived from Rakatan?

The jump in technology needed to go from an interstellar species (Star Wars, Star Trek, Warhammer 40k, etc) to an intergalactic one is greater than the jump needed to go from current humanity tech to that seen in SW/ST.

Good list. Shipyards could be destroyed, I guess, with enough or the right type of space assets (rocket-propelled asteroids!), but taking them seems to mandate having possession of them in some level of functionality is hard. Ask the allies about the ports of Brest and Antwerp. Lots of equipment, time and lives were expended just to open a port to supply the advance east, only to find the port facilities badly wrecked and channels choked with wreckage and/or mines that had to laboriously cleared before the port could be used again by anyone. - - - Now imagine that on the scale of a planetary-circling shipyard like Fondor.

Why not hammer the shipyard continuously with ion weapons? I'm not especially familiar with the weapons or their limitations; my knowledge begins and ends with the fact that they knock-out electrical systems. I assume you'd need a big ion cannon to do it--one like the Malevolence had--but you could basically keep hitting it over and over again to keep the life support systems offline, effectively asphyxiating all personel on the orbital stations.
