Well first off let me say I don't necessarily need any help with my pool water science I'm pretty good in that department I just noticed that you seem to be a DIy-er and an older gentleman and I figured you can show me how to do what I'm already doing easier because you seem to have seniority over me in which you did I learned that I can take my pump apart that way I did not know that I am on the East Coast it gets pretty cold here as well not as cold as where you at but definitely cold so thanks for that sir appreciate you but the main thing I noticed have nothing to do with pools or your video for that matter I noticed the relationship between you and your wife which is absolutely beautiful I love how y'all handle each other and speak to each other I know that don't seem like much but it's a lot when you don't have that and the way she looks at you when you are talking it's priceless my friend hell it made me feel good to see how she looked at you I don't remember the last time my wife looked at me like that or me at her I'm 39 years old now me and my wife been together for 17 years and married for 11 of them we have three children and one adopted child age range from 8 to 15 and I must say our two marriages are night and day I'm not saying it's not supposed to be hard or it's supposed to be easy but damn can I get a break but I must say you and your wife gives me hope that one day I can have with you guys have I am not going to ear beat you or nothing with my mess I'm just going to say thank you for your video and your display of what marriage should look like when two adults can talk and understand each other and let each other talk and listen to each other and actually give a fuck about what you are saying so God bless you and your union thank you sir you guys are rock stars hope you are enjoying your pool 😎🤘👏
I have had an above ground pool for 30 years now. This is my second pool. We always empty half of the water out every fall and cover the pool. Then come spring I drain all the water out. I clean the liner really good and refill it right away. You never empty the pool and let it sit empty for days it will shrink and bust after you refill it. So refill it as soon as possible. I have a DE filter and my pool will have crystal clear water all summer never green. I have had a sand filter in the past and I love the DE filter better. I only use the 3" chlorine tablets in a floater. I try to buy the tablets that contain the highest amount of chlorine in them. Read your lables... I added it up it is cheaper to just add new water every spring instead of buying chemicals. I have a floor drain in the center of my pool this helps keep the pool cleaner too no vacuuming. The dirt settles in the center where the floor drain is. I backwash my filter every week. I clean out the filter every fall after disconnecting it and I store the filter system inside for the winter.

@@SilverLiningDayDreams you are welcome... many people don't even know they sell a floor drain that goes underground under the liner it connects to the filter system. The water circulates in a circle in a round pool so all the dirt and debree lands in the center of the pool. The floor drain will suck the dirt right out of the pool. I never have to vacuum. Crystal clear water. They sell the floor drains on Amazon and in any pool supply store. Easy to install too. You can use a floor drain on any vinyl pool liner. I'll always have one. Enjoy your pool=)

This is great. I super shocked my above ground 2 weeks ago. It's aqua cloudy. I think tomorrow or Tuesday I'll clarify as you suggested then on Friday or Saturday Algecide. It's getting hot here in the SC. Actually it's swimming season now.

Great video, y'all, well made and very informative. One tip--put some plumbers tape on the threads for the drain plug(s) and pressure gauge, makes them more watertight and easier to get off and on, protects the plastic threads. One thing I learned from this video is starting threading by going anti-clockwise first to align to the threads before going clockwise to tighten, never knew that trick. Thanks!

To keep from overtitening things, hand tighten everything, then turn on the system. Then tighten whatever leaks till it stops leaking

We don't use sand. We use these white round balls that work great. And when they start getting dirty they go into a bag and into the washer.
Interesting I’ve never heard of that. Do you have a name for the products so I can do some research, I’m curious.
@@SilverLiningDayDreams my husband got them from Amazon. I'm not sure what they are called. But they work better than sand.
Yes, I use Filter Balls. They are like spun fiberglass. I use them because the white ones are not backwashable and they suggest that you take them out and wash them in the washing machine. The ones I use can be backwashed. They are amazing and lightweight. If they are too dirty at the end of the season, I just toss them and buy new in the spring. I also use a 90 day algaecide so I’m not dealing with that every week. I use an Arm and Hammer balancing puck in a float, then I don’t have to mess with balancing the water every week, just add them when I add my chlorine puck. Pool stays crystal clear all summer.

It helped a lot to connect it back up , Last end of summer I was charged $375 just to remove the pump and cover the pool ,( my first time having a pool, didn't know what to do ) Do you guys cover you pool for the winter?

We feel your pain as we just paid to have a new pool liner installed a week and a half ago. We quit covering our pool because of all the fails with the cover due to snow, ice, wind, freezing rain and pooping ducks 😂. Now that we have a new liner we are going to try covering it again this fall as covering it helps your liner to last longer. Thanks for video! This is great! Question: we leave ours uncovered. We have lots of leaves in the bottom. Do you try to get all the leaves out -gets it all stirred up- before you start with the shock? Or do you wait to do it after shocked? Thanks for a reply!
If you can see leaves at the bottom of the pool, I would suggest trying to get them out first and then shock the pool. However, it may be that your pool is so green that you can’t see the bottom and are unable to tell what’s there, so in that case, I would just shock the pool and then vacuum to waste the leaves. But be careful where you put the water when you vacuum to waste after it clears up because you don’t want to kill vegetation. Your pool liner will last longer if you cover it over the winter by protecting it from UV rays. We installed a new liner last summer, so we covered ours this winter for the first time in a years. You make it look easy .. how deep is the pool and how much does it add to your water and electric bills?
I think it’s 54” high.
It really varies from season to season but I’m going to guess 50 to 100 per month 😊
You say at the end of the video to “fill the strainer housing with water to suction pipe level and prime pump before turning pipe on.” Can you elaborate on how to do this? What would happen if you don’t? Thanks!

Adding some water into the pump housing will sometimes get the pump circulating faster so less stress on the pump 😊
Hi, what kind of pool is this? I’m in ND and have an Intex Ultra Frame. I’m always looking for above ground pools that do well.
Our pool was made by Ovation and it’s about 22 years old 😊
We just had a new liner installed last Wednesday and we had a little bit of a rust area worked on by where the water goes into the pool from the sand filter.
It probably wouldn’t have been as rusted if we would have had it worked on it earlier and an earlier new liner installed two or three years ago.
Because of Covid and shortages with liners, and then the large increase in pool sales causing a demand for liners and labor, we were not able to get a liner for the last two years.
Fortunately, we found an installer that was able to get us in this May so we can enjoy our pool this summer.

Our pool is just over 20 years old.
The rust is partly our fault as we should have replaced the gaskets at the inlet area and the liners more frequently. In other words, it rusted more from our neglect as that was a very busy time in our lives.

What size pool do you have and how much will your new liner cost?
We have a 27 foot round pool. The price for the liner ( including install ) is $2141.64
I suspect it will cost a little more to repair the rusted area by the pool inlet area and to drain the pool 😊

Unfortunately, we do not have any videos on closing the pool, but if we can make time this fall, we certainly are going to be doing one.
In the past, we did not cover our pool and that’s a whole can of worms as to why, but because we have the new liner put in, we are going to cover it later this fall to help increase the longevity of the liner.
I don’t feel like we would be a good resource for you on how to cover it without doing ours first, so I would suggest looking on CZcams for closing videos and subscribing to our channel to see new pool videos this spring 😊

Ours is about 15,000 gallons and we've always just used the winter pill from Amazon. We'd like to try using just the liquid chlorine this year.

I've shocked and Shocked , with no luck. I've now doulble shocked and I've just added clarifier it is semi blue on top now. What is the best process for removing algae I cant see the bottom to vaccum, i also cannot vacuum to waste , any suggestions?

Liquid Chlorine is not "really concentrated" it is in fact the weakest form of chlorine at 12.5% but it is very useful. Also, you should use liquid chlorine late in the day as the UV sun rays will destroy it quickly since it is not stabilized.

Hi! Ive been struggling for a week to get mine clear. I have a 10k gallon intex pool that started black and ive been shocking it every couple of days finally got it to a lighter green color but cant seem to get past that color. Any advice?
Sorry to get back to you so late. Are you using a hefty amount of a commercial shock to shock the day lights out of it?
Can you take a sample to your local pool store to assay it and give a recommendation? Our pool store here where we live does it for free. I’m not sure how to help without actually being there to see it.

I added a bit more ph up and maintenance amount of algicide. Still light green as of now. Now we are wondering if we should add more algicide (and how much? a lot or pool maintenance amount?) or shock it more (wouldn't that raise the chlorine level?)? Any advice?
@@pinoyakusan If you PH level is low, most likely your alkalinity is too low. Check the alkalinity and correct the PH then continue with shock.

One step, I probably would reverse, is vacuuming the heavy stuff before shocking. Especially if you can see the bottom of the pool. If it is a murky mess, then disregard. But if you can see the bottom, I would get rid of any of the stuff That could reverse what your shock has tried to get rid of.

Why can't we have a rain proof cover to prevent algea?
I’m not sure a cover would help with the algae in the summer. There are millions of spores everywhere in the environment, and I think there could be other issues that may culture in the warm environment under the cover. But thank you for looking out for us! 🙂
sorry but a big fail... you didn't put tape on the pressure gauge and should have removed that when you closed pool .. thats why you replace them every year
In 20 plus years using the pool I think the pressure gauge leaked maybe once so I’m not convinced it has to have Teflon tape on the threads.
But it is recommended… so we say go for it. We probably will start using it.

Are you sure your 18,500 gallons? That definitely does not look it by far.
The pool company that sold and installed our pool told us it holds 18,500 gallons and that’s what they have on file on their computer for us. We’ve never actually measured how many gallons are in the pool, lol!
The water level will vary throughout the season affecting how many gallons at any given time. Take care! 🏊🏼♂️
Does not look like you put the winterkit in before covering it. Should not look that green when opening.
We didn’t cover the pool over the winter that year. This last year we put in a new liner so we did cover it over this winter
So just to verify...you turn on the pump after it's full, add the chlorine, pump for 24 hours then proceed with the other chemicals as noted.
Sort of but you may need to backwash if you lose pressure in the process and if you have a lot of free chlorine in your pool, be careful where you backwash so that you don’t kill any vegetation.
This is by far one of the most unbelievable train wrecks I've seen. But just like a train wreck I could not stop looking at it it had me in a trance
That’s ok if you disagree with the way we take care of the pool water. We’ve had our pool for over 20 years and have tried many things. We’ve found that this method is the fastest, easiest and most cost effective way to clear the pool water and get us swimming sooner!
Don’t put chlorine tablets in ur skimmer. It’s horrible for concentrated chlorine to go through ur pool plumbing and especially if u have a heater

If you close down your pool correctly at the end of the swim season you would not be dealing with this mess. One gallon of liquid pool chlorine equals 1 bag shock. To close down your pool - at the end of the season add HTH algaecide & 1 bag of shock (or 1 gal liq pool chlorine) - then cover with winter cover. Then you'll start the swim season with pretty clear pool. BTW-there is NO reason to add 4-5 gallons of chlorine to pool. It's way too caustic to skin and eyes to swim in. My grandson's pool is 15,000 gallons & got 1 gallon chlorine to shock it at beginning of summer.

1 gallon of shock will never clear up your pool. i use 4 . shock burns off quickly .when opening your pool your not getting into if the same day anyways .
