I was the opponent here. I have been paired against Luis a few times in the 64 mans and it always feels bad either way the games play out. Big fan Luis thank you for the content.
Did you win the 64?
@@simonisphording Got wrecked in the next match to UW control that had the answer every time. So I guess you could say I got Cheon'ed in the end.
This doesn't read as a humble brag in the slightest
GGs, your deck was way better than mine 😅
@@timelost9705you’re right! It doesn’t read that way at all.
Man, if the big mana green deck that was going around the table doesn't get so much as a mention, go ahead and cut the whole archetype from the cube. Starting from the p1p3 Birds of Paradise, we saw Hoof, GSZ, Rofellos, Natural Order, Channel, Hexdrinker, Nissa5, Fastbond, Upheaval, and two draw 7s.
I know it's not a tier-1 archetype, but a version of it that picks up every broken card in the color ought to be able to compete for a 3-0.
That's a good point. I'm not LSV but I definitely would have been tempted to jump in for the natural order. That feels like a somewhat underrated card as someone that watches cube more than I play it.
@@brianh5844 It's the archetype that LSV seems most down on. He's not wrong in noting that as Vintage Cube has gotten lower curve and more creature-centric, mana dorks are less valuable and more vulnerable now than they were 5 years ago.
But it would have been a great lane to land in here. In a high-stakes, high-skill draft pod, everyone's going to be trying to shoot the moon, cannibalizing the best archetypes and combo pieces from each other. A 7/10 green ramp deck would've had a real shot at glory vs this field.
I was in this draft pod and ended up jumping on the mono green ramp deck when I saw it was so open. Lost in the final to dream halls control
it’s a top 8 which means it’s time to play “try not to look at the comments or video length”
Here’s to hoping the 42 minute video means a quick and crushing win
It did!
For someone at least
I never understand why they don't just always make the video say 90minutes and then just leave them blank after the loss. Other sites do it, and it keeps the excitement due to not knowing the outcome. Love LSV and the content obviously, but that seems like such an easy improvement.
@@koalaofdoom YT punishes doing that because people used to pad videos out with garbage for more ad revenue
Are you planning to update your CubeCobra list with MH3 changes? Love the changes you've made so far and am excited to see what you're cooking up next.
Definitely, I’ll be doing that this week
Got to get a little lucky to win just about any tournament between humans.
Man didnt even think about taking that mana drain.
Closing my other LSV vid to slam this one
Me deciding if commenting on the basic mountain was worth it... 2 seconds later LSV says he should cut it. I love that for me.
When I saw how little time was left going into game 3, I cringed knowing the bloodbath that must be coming.
Yeah, same
Love how you slammed the cryptic command!!!
I finally got to play an in-person vintage cube the other day and drafted an extremely busted Jeskai deck. I tried to pick what you would pick and as it turns out, those are some of the best cards in Magic. Thanks for all the videos.
42... its not looking good boys 😢
There should be a spoiler buffer on single elim vids lol

Not taking the brawler at 11:00 seems crazy to me. You're pretty firmly locked onto five colors here and it seems much more likely to make the cut than a double black card.
LSV, maybe I’m wrong but it seems like you could’ve had an awesome U/W control deck!
Par for the course. People seem to underdraft the archetype for some reason.
@@Kendal411 Indeed I (LSV's opp here) got demolished by UW control in the very next match.
Can you add extra time to the end of videos under 40mins with "spoiler prevention" image? I saw Grubby doing this (WC3 streamer) and appreciated it. Keep the vids coming. :)
While a good idea in a vacuum, CZcams algorithm doesn’t like this. If a viewer stops watching half way through the vid (because of the proposed “spoiler prevention” screen), it really messes with the video’s metrics
@@giancarlocafaro6734what if for the higher stakes videos where spoilers really affect enjoyment like 64-man top 8s, he always released a part 1 and a part 2? Sometimes the part 2 would just be black screen and sometimes it would be an actual part 2, and we wouldn't know until we got to the end of part 1.
It would mean the blank part 2's would not get watched at all, and to the extent they do, people who accidentally end up there will be redirected to watch part 1, but maybe that's less bad for the algorithm?
It wouldn't be great to do this for every video but could be worth it for top 8s and other higher stakes events.
Just as bad, sadly. YT algorithm kills a whole lot of fun ideas and intelligent videos. @@brianh5844
@@giancarlocafaro6734 appreciate that info. Ty.
video length is a big spoiler
5 Color with a Cryptic Command... Gzus. Any other person does that, I call him insane.
Amusingly that was quite common while cryptic was in standard.
TBF the manabase supports it pretty well
I mean, it *was* def a bit insane. This is not LSV's first 5-color cryptic cube deck but in general I have not seen it work out for him. There's this cognitive bias where one loves a card so much, they can't evaluate whether it's realistically castable and that the sacrifices made to try outweigh the benefit having a B+ card that is rarely castable before turn 8.
I have some cards like that too, where I've had such good experiences with it that it's hard for me to be completely rational. I imagine everyone with emotions does to some degree. I suppose part of it is that Magic is much more punishing of durdling and waiting around to cast your spells than it once was. This wasn't a functional deck for 2024 Magic (too disjointed and too high of a fail rate) but it would have been decent-to-good for 2014 Magic.
All that being said I'm sure I trainwreck more often than LSV but this was definitely a trainwreck. Don't think him being LSV means he isn't capable of those.
In terms of navigating the draft differently, it seems like he got a bit too enamoured with having multiple fetches early on and the possibilities kept him from picking some kind of lane. He had his fingers in too many pies. Picking lots of powerful cards from different strategies is something he says he's doing intentionally and mindfully, but a daily watcher of his cube videos will note that his best performers are the ones where he's able to pick a lane somewhat early and stick to it (like at least by early pack 2) rather than trying to be open to everything and still not have a clear direction in pack 3.
LSV is a good enough player that just settling on U/W cheons early on, for instance, perhaps with a hullbreacher + draw 7 package, would have almost certainly worked out better.
I'm torn, No Winston wednesday but epic top 8 haha
It’s high stakes CUBE TIME!!!
I would love it if you padded out the video so we aren't spoiled on where the draft ends just by the video length. I certainly wouldn't be mad at a round or two of winston draft to soften the loss after!
This was an odd deck indeed.
in hindsight I wonder if picking Laelia into Inti first two picks would've given you a better chance. evergreen conundrum in draft whether to go clear strategy versus staying open
Here’s hoping for some Thinston Thursday tomorrow!
Goin into game 3 with 2 mins left in the vid?.. we got this
Always. Take. Hullbreacher. I miss it!
The five colour piles seems to almost never work out for LSV. It's great to be able to cast your spells, as LSV says frequently, but your spells also need to make sense together
At least the consolation is you probably would have lost to that deck even if you didn't end up with 5 colour trainwrecks, so there's that
would this be a longer video if LSV took hullbreacher instead of library?
Seat looked pretty strong for green but LSV never/hardly ever ends up Gx
Spoiler block
No Winston Wednesday?

If you could add like 20-30 minutes to the end of videos like this so the time isn't a spoiler, it'd be great :)
Can’t do it - the YT algorithm punishes you hard for it
@@LSVargas Damn you YT!
@@LSVargas You could staple a winston draft to the end of the video.
passing the haul breacher for library was a pivotal point of this draft. I think that's when we didnt get there
Why do you think that? Hullbreacher didn’t combo with anything in the deck at the time and library is a MUCH better card. With swords, push, and FoW (not to mention fire covenant and subtlety), library is immediately a bonkers pick over the hullbreacher, which would require the draft going our way to match that power level.
@@giancarlocafaro6734 It just felt like we didn't give ourselves any outs to a more combo'y build and just added some more durdle to the deck. Maybe it's a matter of preference, but i'd have P2P1 the Furry into Hull breacher to give us a chance at being a bit more aggressive to leverage all of the cheap spells and set up for maybe some draw 7s if they came (we saw none pack 1)
Anyone else here try to draft decks like these and flop because you're not Luis?
Uh oh, 42 minutes. Hope you're doing some real busted stuff.
LSV washed you heard it here first
