I was *just* playing my Jhoira Ageless Innovator Historic Brawl deck on arena, and added in The One Ring without much thought to it. Lo and behold, I found out I'm running Manifold Key & Other untappers, so I was able to just keep untapping the ring so I can dig to Paradox Engine and then just keep on untapping. So funny that I'd see this right after I finished arena for the day!
I played against this yesterday in a paper legacy tourney, he was not expecting the slam T2 Nethervoid. Died to hit own Ancient Tombs and Ring on 3. XD Love the list, it's super fun.
To be fair, it's probably been at least ten years since anybody expected a turn 2 Nether Void in Legacy. XD

I think his line of thinking is that he can't go off with bowmasters in play, and the bridge doesn't answer that.
With ballista he can block the 9/9 and then ping the bowmasters, giving him an out to go off the next turn.
@@petercort3566 That doesnt work, because if he gets the bridge, he isnt dead and a 1/1 can't kill his Karn, so he can Karn for Ballista next turn.
iirc a lot of "urza xxx" lands have the subtype urza now. So to go with that workshop and saga this deck needs to include urza's funhouse

The one ring should have had the added clause: "you cannot play cards named "The one Ring"". This way, the risk of dying would be a real drawback. In the current way, being legendary makes it way stronger than if it were not...I have never seen anybody die to it, because they just cast another one.

Or "A deck can have only up to 1 card named The One Ring" I think that would fit the flavor too
Or it should be restricted to 1 copy in the deck. It is The One Ring after all. It's in the name that there is only 1 of it.

There are multiple cards with "You can have as many copies of 'X' in your deck". HOW, for the love of all flavor, are you allowed to have 4 copies of the ONE ring?

probably the best "one ring" deck at the moment. Which is fine. Bowmasters on the other hand gets played in basically everything.

I just realized I misread the one ring. I was under the impression that you lose life equal to the number of burden counters whenever you tap the ring to draw cards. And armed with that knowledge I was like "omg you have 4 life, why do you keep untapping the ring?"
this deck is hilarious. a total glass cannon with a narrow path to victory, but maybe it's good? maybe?
It kinda just looks like the machine mtg card design has slowly designed enough cards for but it feels more like it was peices to a puzzle that were uncovered from antiquity

There is a Pithing Needle in the sideboard for Wasteland.
Against Goblins, should you board in Crypt over Grid to make Metalcraft easier to get and give yourself a cheaper spell to help with Paradox Engine?

The Goblin player not doing anything on turn one in both games hurt my soul.
Neat deck, but I don't think I can give up playing 4x Chalice of the Void, 4x Trinisphere, and 4x Lodestone Golems with Wasteland backup. What's better than comboing off on turn 2 is just making it so your opponents never cast spells in the first place 😄
I never enjoyed prison strategies but I picked up legacy mono red prison and I must say that deck is actually very fun to play.
@@iankane3732 Yeah I can switch my MUD deck into Mono-Red Prison. I have everything for that deck except the newer creatures from commander sets and whatnot. Turn 1 Blood Moon is absolutely backbreaking against a lot of decks.
First game, Ensnaring Bridge stops the 9/9 army from attacking you.
Any consideration to a meteor goldem or spine/cityscape leveler to answer null rod off of Karn?
I feel like more invesnters-fair would be better than the entomb Urza land. Its more ways for the deck to tuturer for win cons and just go off with the one ring and engine. Playing more access to win cons seams good

This deck would be better against deafening silence if it had 1 or 2 big daddy Karns in the SB to exile target permanent.
The deck is probably very streamlined, but could you see it adding a colour to it to avoid or counter some of the anti artifact spells like null rod or collector ouphe?
in game 1 match 1, how does ensnaring bridge not give you an extra turn (if it survives)?
The opponent could have just passed turn and let the One Ring finish LSV

@@teliots I posted another reply above but I think his logic was to still have Ancient Tomb available. If he goes for Bridge, he drops down to 2 life after Bowmaster attacks, vs. 3 life with Ballista.

You can +1 Karn targeting Null Rod to make it a creature then Dismember it

One ring i such a powerful card when get into play basically protects you from every thing and then gives an3 card advantage losing 1 life and all that at no more than the 3/4 turn it should be restrict soon

I'm so confused about why he said "Ensnaring Bridge doesn't do anything for me" when he was searching up Karn board targets and his opponent had a 9/9 army with 6 cards in hand... surely the bridge makes it so the 9/9 can't kill him? What am I missing...?

You talking about 11:55? I think the problem he's referring to is the Orcish Bowmasters is still a 1/1 and he has a One Ring with 2 counters. So Bowmasters attacks, putting him to 4, then the One Ring puts him to 2. He can't use Ancient Tomb from there. He can still play Paradox Engine from untapping the Grim, but he'll need to draw a zero mana spell or Paradox Engine so he can still -2 Karn. I think that's 9 outs? 4 Lotus Petal, 4 Mox Opal, and 1 Paradox Engine.
I definitely agree he should have gone for Bridge. I think his logic was Walking Ballista buys him a turn and gets the Bowmaster off the table. Then he goes to 3 life and can still use Ancient Tomb to cast Defense Grid to start untapping with Paradox Engine, allowing him to go off.
LSV is so cute whenever he says joyfully "I've never seen this card before, I wonder what set it's from" about the neat commander cards that seem to just appear in other formats. Wholesome moments 🥰
ok I found at least one good answer to Null Rod that you can search with Karn.
There are some very expensive answers like the referenced Spine of Ish Sah, as well as Meteor Golem (dodges FoN) and Cityscape Leveler.
I think the best one is Culling Scales. Similarly, Plague Boiler. Both are 3 mana but require at least one turn cycle.
My favorite is Shrapnel Slinger, 1r. You can get red mana under Null Rod by -2 Lotus Petal -1 City of Traitors +3 Simian Spirit Guide. It destroys it immediately, and has the most utility against non-Null Rod decks when you can get red from Mox Opal and Lotus Petal
idk if any of these warrant a sideboard slot right now, but they're options
probably just go 2 blast zone in the main deck and 1 metor golem in the sb!

@@jasober I think every land in the manabase is so powerful that wouldn't wanna cut them for Blast Zone, but Blast Zone prob is the best answer
This deck seems like it either is the most broken deck in the format or the worst do-nothing ever depending on the draw and opponent. It's nice to see Belcher getting press again ;)

I agree, I think the burden counters should lose you life both in your upkeep and when The One Ring leaves the battlefield

He is exaggerating, it’s not really infinite but it is a lot and for the purposes of this game might as well be infinite since he can cast any card he draws except Emrakul.
