  • GENDER of NOUNS - PATTERNS in Brazilian Portuguese - Ever wondered why the word 'problema' is masculine ('o problema'), while the word 'solução' is feminine ('a solução')? In today's class, you will learn about these and other patterns related to the gender of nouns, which will help you identify when a word is masculine or feminine. However, bear in mind, that the Portuguese have many exceptions to the rules, and in some cases where gender is something totally random...it is a matter of memorizing and getting used to it. Today you will learn:
    - some word ending patterns that will help you learn the gender of nouns
    - about the word 'saudade' - it's meaning and how to use it in a sentence - the tip of the day.
    When it comes to the gender of nouns, my suggestion is (and will always be) to learn them little by little through examples. Try to identify some patterns. Be aware of the exceptions 😉

    Thank you for this lesson for the day. Its very helpful for English speakers because we don't have gender! Can you you make a video describing words in the plural form? This is also very difficult! Thank you teacher!

    When speaking to or about an individual, when do you use “a” or “o” with their name? This is something I have come across in my studies that I am unsure of. Do you use this on when you are speaking about an individual and not directly to them? I hope that makes sense. And example would be like “A Maria or o João”. Muito obrigado, Bea!

    Qual é a diferença entre "levar" e "demorar"?

    • @PlainPortuguese
      @PlainPortuguese  Před 2 lety +1

      'Levar', no sentido de duração, seria equivalente a 'take' - 'A viagem levou duas horas.'
      Enquanto que 'demorar' seria equivalente a 'take (too) long' - 'Você demorou (duas horas) para chegar.'
