Ok not trolling just a few options, snow is insulation, sounds like great dinner! Gatorade bottle?! Nalgene bottle red one for obvious reasons leave in bag with you for heat, hand warmers too, try a PM options on pills helps with sinusitis, safety pin a small cotton cloth to bag opening to collect mositure prevents it from the bag, store water upside-down as water freezes top down, so it may not all freeze just somethings to try, or not?! From old-timer in N-MN, 30yr vet, and oh yeah I love the channel!

I would recommend having a soft hydration pack (like camelback) and fill it with hot water before bed. You can keep it near your core all night to keep you warm (like a hot water bottle) and drink the warm water if you need to during the night and have warm water for your first morning coffee.

I lived in my truck for an entire winter in the northern plains of the US. I would like to pass on some hard earned lessons. I have a super crew cab and i lay flat on the rear seats, not the carpet. I got one of those foam matresses from walmart for about 30 bucks. It traps heat like crazy. I put a cheap 5 wool blanket from walmart on top of that and tucked it in tight. I put my sleeping bag (a wiggy's) on top of that. My system inclued a mr buddy in the center console facing backwards hooked up to an extended hose that went to a propane tank in the truck bed through the rear sliding window. I put those pop up sun blockers behind the rear seats so that they curve up over the rear window and slightly into the top of the roof. The heat reflection off this on the low setting was so good i slept on top of the sleeping bag. The trick is finding a balance of how much to crack your windows because you will get that propane smell. Also, lining your vehicle up in the right direction based on wind and even the sound of snow plows (which will keep you up ALL night long). And all this was in temps ranging from -25 to 15F. Be sure to tuck your water bottle in the sleeping bag so if you wake up at night and want some water it isnt frozen solid and as for having to take a crap well i hope you parked near a gas station!

Also, save any old oven grills you might run into. Great on the camp fire which doesn't hurt if forgotten. Swedish army soldier here, the most valuable thing that I can think while things sucks in the field during winter is hot water, keep a thermos on you at all times so when it really starts to suck and you can't feel your face anymore and your spine is frozen solid just take a sip from the thermos and it will feel like heaven. I remember one time when I was on OP during winter and temperatures dropet to around -20F
It was snowing heavely and storm winds as I was laying there flat on my stomach trying to stay warm and watch the incoming roads to our base camp, 3 hour shifts and I've only done 30 minutes that night that thermos saved my sanity.
Oh and always keep water under your clothing, just barely over frozen water will make you extremely cold in the long run.

I have been in cold temps. also, and survived in a cave with a tent set up inside at about 10-20 degree's. . Any how, great idea of your Coleman propane heater. might get one just in case. I had also used disposable "Hot Hands" for bicycling in below freezing temps. and seem to work ok but, disposable /one time use can be expensive. Maybe Zippo fuel hand heater is more affordable . Thanks a bunch for all your tips and advice in video. I will remember when needed, possibly soon.

@Toasty Thanks,i try google that too. This last winter wasnt too bad. Although i had to endure a few weeks out in open space area (Nov.-Dec.) One way i figured to keep a vehicle warmer without turning engine/heater often is i have several canvas tarps covering entire vehicle. Thus, it prevented ice build up on windows also. A wind from the north west was constant for the night so bungee cords and para cords secured tarps from blowing off.

Just watched this video again and got bummed out about your Jeep and gear that was lost in the fire. Hope everything works to your advantage Casey!

This video was most enjoyable, though the camp setup was not seen. Those of us who have varying degrees of night blindness tend to prefer plenty of daylight when assembling a campsite. With freezing temperatures, fingers can lose grip on things, so looking on the ground in the dark for something needed is stressful. I really liked the cowboy beans mixture; will try it at home. Was fascinated by the foundations you showed us. A lot of work went into those. Admirable. Thank you for sharing this adventure.

      Thank you. Glad you enjoyed.
The trick to setting up camp in the dark is just lots of experience, and knowing exactly where all your gear is. For me I go camping so much it’s pretty second nature to set up my camp.
      Cheers my friend.
