  • Solo Car Camping Adventure - History Hunting and My Basic Camp Set Up
Thank you for joining me for another Jeep Overland Car Camping Adventure. On this trip we travel some dirt roads to explore a piece of private land and track down a historic old 1920’s logging camp site. I’ve heard rumors about this site and some of it’s history and I got the chance to go out and search for the evidence myself. I also show you all my most basic and simple car camp set up. As always I throw in a few camp meals and talk about some of the gear I use along the way. And on this trip I find some relics that tell us more about what life was like for the hard working timber workers and their families that occupied this historic camp site.
Hope you enjoy joining me for more of my overland, car camping, history hunting, and exploring in more of my videos. Above all, I hope you find some adventures of your own!
    Hope you all enjoy!
    Cheers,
    Casey

Normally, I don't care to see advertising on utube. Casey gives us a different take on explaining the quality and usefulness of each thing he has. Not because there free but, they have to suit the need.i.e., all the rooftop tents. He has explained the good and not so good, and has honest thoughts. Thnx Casey.

Thank you my friend. I appreciate it that you see that. Every piece of gear that I talk about is a piece of gear that I use on a regular basis because it has proven to work well for me in the role I need it too. I only review or talk about items that are in my kit/load out. I turn away several pieces of free gear every week because it’s just not something that I need or would use. It’s nice to hear that you recognize that. Thank you. Happy New Year my friend!

Hey Casey... thanks for the shout-out. I've had few over my way drop a comment from your channel... very nice of you to do that.
On another note, I'd agree with ya about that rod being a drill. One guy would hold the bit while another guy hit the end with a maul. Then he'd turn the bit, by hand, and the other guy would hit the end again. Required a bit of trust for the guy swinging the maul lol 👍🎩⛏

Casey I want you to know what an inspiration you are to me and probably a whole lot of other people as well. I really enjoy being in the outdoors as much as possible but sometimes life just kind of grinds you down and its in those times that one of your videos will pop into my feed. They always seem to appear at just the right time. Each one of your videos reminds me that I can enjoy myself out in nature all by myself when everyone seems to busy to accompany me on an adventure. This past year was really tough on me as I lost my best friend back in the spring to complications during a surgery. His death really hit me hard especially because we had planned out most of 2021 around various trips and excursions we were going to do together. So his death pretty much wiped out my calendar for the rest of the year and he was my best friend for quite awhile so losing him really was like a kick in the gut. I knew he was an important part of my life and I was to him as well and it just never occurred to me that he wouldn’t always be there. Losing him left a gigantic hole in my life. It may sound a bit strange but watching you out there doing what you love all by yourself reminds me of what he would want me to do. He wouldn’t want me sitting at home mourning his passing. He would want me to be out there in the woods doing the things that I love even if it meant going it alone. There will never be another person in my life just like him and that’s ok. I might meet someone that I become friends with and maybe even best friends someday. But in the meantime I shouldn’t waste what time I have because if I learned anything from his passing its that you never know when your time is up. So I want to say thank you to you Casey because your videos remind me of the times I got to spend with my best friend doing pretty much what you do in your videos. I’ll always have those memories and a few pictures we took when we remembered to take them lol. And since most of the time we were out there it was in some of the same areas you seem to frequent so the scenery reminds me of those times. But now I’m kind of rambling lol. Just know that sometimes your willingness to share your adventures makes a huge difference in the lives of people you may never get to meet. Maybe I’ll bump into you sometime while out and about in the outdoors. I know he would have liked you Casey because you remind me of him in a lot of ways. Now its 2022 and its been almost a year since I lost my best friend. I’m going to do what he would want me to do and that’s get out there and enjoy myself before its my time to go. Thank you Casey for being the friend I haven’t met yet lol
I know you understand what I’m trying to say. Coyote works out.
    Cheers.

Hey Casey, very much enjoy your videos and your excitement of finding history in remains of an old Homestead. On a much lighter note I had to chuckle at how you pronounced Stok cold brew coffee. A very nice cashier at the local Safeway who used to teach Grade School corrected my pronunciation of that brand of coffee. I too used to pronounce it "stock". She pointed out that there is a "long sign" over the O in Stok, so it's pronounced "stoke". That's our joke when I see her at Safeway.

Happy New Year! Those amber cork top bottles were actually Clorox, or Purex bleach bottles, circa 1930's-40's. They could have been used later for moon shine, but seeing the fancy depression glass, and boot polish, I'd say there were definitely ladies, and families in that camp.

Hey There - John. You might get to go on an adventure with Casey or maybe one of us that run amok in the same neck of the woods some day. Its not impossible and since you will be exiting the military soon you just never know. Down here in this area we appreciate our veterans and go out of our way to welcome them into our adventures as a way of saying thank you for your service. So stay in touch and we will look forward to seeing you sometime. Oh and don’t think you have to have a special rig with all the gadgets and whatnot. We all started with nothing more than a desire to enjoy the outdoors. In fact I don’t know when your exit date is but you can always come down for a visit, I’m certain some of us could show you around.

    Casey,
Another great camp out! I really enjoy your time digging up relics! The history of the high desert is bountiful and interesting! Here in the Columbia River Gorge we have “dump sites” full of history as well. I find that taking my dogs out for a run helps me find new ground, but it’s hit or miss finding the history at times. What do you use for confirmation on the dates and timelines? How about finding information on new places to explore?
I’ve read all the books about the area, talk to the old timers at the coffee shop and I’ve grown up in the area. Any thing else you can think of? I’d appreciate your insight.
The “can lids” you mentioned, were they glass or tin?
Thanks again for taking me along for the ride!
    Happy New Year !

    • @CoyoteWorks01
      @CoyoteWorks01  Před 2 lety +4

Sounds like you do a lot of the same things I do…. Read local history books, listen to the old timers, etc. I also search for and browse old maps. The maps back into the 1920s and 1930s are a good balance between being new enough to be fairly detailed and accurate but still showing a lot of the historic homesteads, ranches etc. A lot of the maps from that era actually showed where houses and buildings were located. And like you said, at the end of the day I find a lot of old sites by just hiking around and looking in areas where it seems likely someone would have wanted to settle or camp. Cheers!
