      The contracts that the contestants sign, likely without a lawyer reviewing it, is the definition of insane, but they would have to go to court to fight it which is expensive enough and they might not win since they signed the contract. The producers of these shows love to play the game where they very heavily imply they have to do things because of the contract even if that is not true because they can always sue even if they have no case.

      Actually that opposite, he had to prove to production that he was detached and that the storyline couldn’t continue or they would have forced the wedding and made him do the “No” at the altar. I’m willing to bet that was a crazy conversation for him to prove to him he was over and done with it!

    In NC you can't file for divorce until you've been separated for a year. This show is entertaining but honestly who would want to do this? Divorce is a pain in the butt.

      ​@@ohgeez4354 I'm guessing that after the most recent lawsuits, the producers are not pushing nearly as hard to imply that they have to stay or face harsh financial penalties. One of the lawsuits is arguing that they wouldn't let them leave, so any evidence that supports that will hurt their case.

    Really gross how so many people in the comments can’t just admit some of the practices of the show are insane and shouldn’t be allowed. It really doesn’t matter that they signed up, the fact is some of these practices are unethical, unnecessary, and shouldn’t be allowed period.

    I was in a reality show and there were similar non disclosure rules, (other than the couples rules which didn’t apply to my show)this does t seem so far off. Although when I arrived at the hotel, there were no rules about leaving, eating, etc. that’s craziness.

    There is nothing wrong with protecting the finished product, legally they have a right to do so. So i understand why they needed to be escorted on a smoking break, as they could bump onto their blind date!
    Remember, the contestants signed these agreements so it's not like anything was a surprise to them.

    I'm appalled at the contracts, uncivilized treatment, rediculous greed, working conditions. I hope that someone petitions the courts for inhumane & cruel conditions. I will no longer be watching these cast members be treated like people.Everyone should find a different way to entertain themselves in other ways untill conditions improve dramatically !

    I don't know why this is a problem about having to stay together for 11mos, it's the law that even when you separate, you have to be separated for a minimum of 1yr before a divorce can be finalized anyway

      You can put anything in a contract. Nobody is obligated to sign said contract. That's why you need a lawyer or someone well versed to review any contract.

      @@IngridAsInBergman Civil suits are not indicative of something being illegal. It IS legal, it is just also unethical. If it were illegal then they would be pressing charges and law enforcement would be involved but that's not what's happening.

It is illegal to discriminate in some circumstances but the government doesn’t get involved until after an individual files a complaint and even then it goes to civil court.

    Some of these make no sense, as many couples break up before the wedding. Also, we saw couples who got married and lived apart.
    You can't expect the production company to pay for the upbringing of children for the rest of their lives...come on now.
