How to fix a spinning shower handle on American Standard barrel-type shower valves (Re-Nu series)

Video about how to fix a shower handle that won't stop spinning on an American Standard barrel-style shower valve. The fix was made by adding a plastic shim washer to the valve stem in addition to the brass washer that comes with the stem assembly. The thickness or number of washers that you may need may vary; in my case I used a washer that was a bit under 1/16 inch thick.

Btw, I tried searching for the brass washer online and couldn't find anywhere that you could buy it. I don't think I was even able to find a part number for it when I looked about a year ago. The tupperware fix seems to work fine though as it has been a year since I did it and the problem has not returned.

Thank I’m having the same problem with the cold water handle on my sink. I’m going to try this fix today. My original had a thick washer between the barrel and valve stem. The re-nu replacement just had a thin brass washer

I’m having leak on the head shower from this stem I replaced with the new one and still the same , does this kind of shower body has seat inside or how to fix this problem.?
