Cartridge replacement in a basement laundry tub faucet made by Central Brass
Video showing the inside of a Central Brass slop sink / utility faucet including its cartridges. This video may be helpful to anyone without much plumbing experience (like me) who is thinking about fixing their utility faucet that is leaking / dripping but doesn't know what to expect. Of course the inside of your faucet may look nothing like this particular faucet, but I decided to make this video because I didn't see any other videos on youtube showing a utility faucet where you have to replace a cartridge instead of just replacing a washer.
The Central Brass part number for this particular cartridge is G-353-EWH / G-353-EWC (hot and cold) which I was able to obtain at a local plumbing specialty shop. Danco also makes a 3C-6H / 3C-6C cartridge that looks exactly the same but I'm not sure if it is.

How to fix a spinning shower handle on American Standard barrel-type shower valves (Re-Nu series)
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 2 lety
Video about how to fix a shower handle that won't stop spinning on an American Standard barrel-style shower valve. The fix was made by adding a plastic shim washer to the valve stem in addition to the brass washer that comes with the stem assembly. The thickness or number of washers that you may need may vary; in my case I used a washer that was a bit under 1/16 inch thick. For further reading ...

Removing the valve seat / barrel on an American Standard shower valve (Re-Nu series valve stem)
zhlédnutí 3,6KPřed 2 lety
I made this video because I was pretty confused the first time I opened up the shower valve and did not see anywhere to insert a valve seat wrench. I originally assumed the valve seat was not removable until a guy at the hardware store explained that it is removable as shown in this video. If you need to replace the seals in the valve stem / barrel or the replace the valve stem / barrel itself ...
Removal of a stuck tub spout, using a dremel rotary saw, for a rear/back diverter type spout
zhlédnutí 560Před 2 lety
Video of a stuck tub spout I removed from my shower and how I cut it up with a Dremel handheld rotary tool. The spout was fused to the stub-out pipe because of galvanic corrosion between the brass tub spout and the steel pipe I think. None of the penetrating oils that I applied were successful.

    Thank you so much for making this video, and including links to the parts at ace hardware. You are a lifesaver! I was just about to give up and call a plumber.

    Thank you I have the exact plumbing! So very helpful in my repair. This is the only video I have found on American standard barrel DYII.

    What did you replace the spout with? What was the brand of the original spout? I have a 1940s American Standard spout with a rear diverter that I cannot easily remove. It works fine when I periodically spray WD40 into the opening and onto the shaft of the diverter pull mechanism. The shower is not used often so maybe that is why this works. I'd still like to replace it someday but probably won't go to the length that you did. Enjoyed your comments.

    What tips do you have if my barrel doesn’t come out and is stuck

    • @chrisjohnson9903
      @chrisjohnson9903 Před rokem

      When I took the barrel out for the first time, I had to pull on it a bit because the o-ring was deteriorated and stuck to the surface it presses against (the barrel had not been removed for many years probably). I didn't have to pull on it too hard though, so if it doesn't come out with a decent amount of force I'm not sure what the problem would be.

    Btw, I tried searching for the brass washer online and couldn't find anywhere that you could buy it. I don't think I was even able to find a part number for it when I looked about a year ago. The tupperware fix seems to work fine though as it has been a year since I did it and the problem has not returned.

    Thank I’m having the same problem with the cold water handle on my sink. I’m going to try this fix today. My original had a thick washer between the barrel and valve stem. The re-nu replacement just had a thin brass washer

      @chrisjohnson9903 Před rokem

      Info for the o-ring is in the 2nd imgur link in the video descrption. They had it in stock at my local Ace Hardware store. As for the gasket (#9, 35551), I found a few sites that sell it online but it didn't really seem worth it for various reason. So I carved it out of a rubber sheet instead using an X-Acto knife and a compass (1-1/4 OD x 1 ID x 1/8 thick). You can buy a 6 x 6 rubber sheet at any hardware store.

    Thanks for the video. This is probably a stupid question...but: If the barrel isn't screwed in like a seat, what holds it in place and stops it from turning when you turn the knob/stem to turn the water on and off. It seems like it would just turn freely.

    • @chrisjohnson9903
      @chrisjohnson9903 Před 2 lety

      When you screw the valve stem back in, it pushes the back chamfer face of the barrel (containing the o-ring) up against a mating surface and the friction between the two surfaces prevents the barrel from rotating. I made a related video BTW that talks about how the barrel and shower handle can sometimes keep spinning and what to do if that happens.

      @@chrisjohnson9903 Haha, I was just working on a friend's and never saw a seat barrel like that, had always seen the small threaded in seats. I was also wondering what kept the barrel from spinning. Could not stop the leaking even with new washer, think a new seat is needed.
