As always, an excellent help resource, Joe!
One thing about updating existing templates to keep in mind. I learned I liked certain processor chains while working on a song. However, when I go to save the updated template by replacing existing with the newly added processors, the song data gets attached as well. Persons needs to make the distinction in its coding to know that if I am choosing to update my existing template by saving the newly added changes, it should not also include the song files themselves. It should ONLY contain the non-song add updates to the new template. Hence, the term "Template" and not, "Song". Thanks and Cheers Joe for another great tutorial!

I really truly love love love this channel and using studio one, I’ve tried so many other daws and studio one just feels like home I’ve never been more excited to create than I have been using studio one. This daw has truly helped me believe in the potential I have while giving me an amazing range of play that’s both comprehensive but so easy!!! And so manageable!!!! But like then it’s the way that even when I can’t figure something out, presonus is right here for me literally teaching me and anyone else who wants the information exactly how to use their amazing AND INEXPENSIVE daw FOR COMPLETELY FREE!!!! like idk but I swear I will forever use studioone and tell everyone all about it

love this!!! I just sat down and did this the other day. Made a template with all the standard stuff I use ready to go. I've also been using your "console style" workflow, just a FAT channel on each track and the master bus, and using those vintage EQ's and Tube comps. And the mixes have been sounding amazing! Thanks for all the great tips Joe!

Thanx Joe, I was using templates for a minute in version 4 ut I never really stuck with it because I guess I was evolving in not only just Studio One, but mainly the way I write and produce. However.... Now after watching this I have gone and setup a basic template for all the task I normally do such as using Scaler 2 and my arrangement & I setup my fade out @ the end of the song as well as have my Drum Bus already setup with my favorite two plugins on it that I use on every Drum Bus.
I had already setup a template for when I write Trap music because there are certain instruments I use with patches I use on most of my Trap trax. Now I've updated that template to have my mix page already setup like I've done with my main template.
Thanx so much for this video Joe.... You're the best!

Good video Joe. But please tell your friends at PreSonus to develop Track Templates similar to how Cakewalk does it. I love so many things S1 does but I really love that feature in Cakewalk. It allows you to pull in multi-track instruments with the outputs and tracks and even instrument assignments set up, as with Kontakt, Superior Drummer, Sample Tank, etc. We can partially do this with S1 song templates but that only works if you know in advance which instruments you will use.

I use an orchestral template and merge my files from Notion into it. works great but frustrates me that my rehearsal marks in Notion don't become markers in S1. If I do the bounce as a new document (not the template) the markers match the rehearsal marks.

What A Template Means To Me
A short story by Jeff Clark
Ever been hungry for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich but you dread the thought of going out into the kitchen and taking out the peanut butter from the closet, then the jelly from the refrigerator, finding the bread, getting a plate, getting a knife, and napkins?
    Yeah I hate it too.
Now imagine walking out into the kitchen and finding everything you need right on the table and the only blank space is the plate. That's what a template means to me.
    The End.

Hey Joe. Thanks for the good info. Question for you. I've been using S1 Pro since version 2 almost exclusively for mixing. As a result I have various templates based upon channel strips (Shoeps, Neve, SSL, API, PreSonus, etc.). That's all and well for songs, but the next step is mastering and now with the ability to do some automation in a Project, that is where I do my mastering. I would bet you have particular chains you use when and if you master. Is there a way to templatize a Project similar to a song? I like to set my metering and display type to a particular style as well. I cannot see a way of creating a project template. Do you know of a way?
I do have mastering chains saved in my insert lists, but that is just not the same. And that brings up another point. I like to keep my song, project and track files in alternate places than the general user data locale, but because S1 includes all of the support folders like templates, presets, sound sets, etc. which I feel are more global settings than are locations for song, project and show files. If I want to change my defaults for songs, projects and show files, everything else is lost when you do that. How do you feel about a bit more granularity in defining where folders are pointing?

  • @thereal_ineedHelp
    @thereal_ineedHelp Před 9 měsíci

S1 kinda sucks for making templates with Instrument tracks. You can’t have a blank instrument track *AND* a blank Mixer Channel for it.
No pre-configuring instrument routing, bussing, insert effects, etc. as shown in this video like you can for audio tracks/channels that you can then quickly drag a virtual instrument into.
Studio One 6.5 effectively does not support creating blank instrument templates.

Studio One is a great DAW ! But the most static DAW I know when it goes about dynamic humanize, groove, velocity etc. Every DAW I used has dynamic real-time features for MIDI. The King is with no doubt, Reason with the ReGroove tool, it's just perfect. Maybe Studio One 7 has finally a Note FX tool which comes close to ReGroove.

it would be great if one could select what to make part of the template (tracks, busses, fx tracks, plugins, waves, midi, ...). Just like in Adobe Lightroom when you copy the modifications of an image. The reason why I would like to see this feature is simple. Usually I get the improvements for my templates when I use them. But so now at some point in time in the middle of my process I decide I would like to have this change in my template. Means today I have to create a new song based on the template, repeat the changes, overwrite template. But if you could select which things shall be part of the template, then I could simply deselect the waves and midi objects and maybe plugins, and overwrite my template directly from the song I'm working on.
