That was over 1000 cal / hr. I can balls out 1000 cal for just a couple minutes, sustain maybe 650 an hour- to do 1100 cal / hr for that long is impressive
@@MikeBarbarossa its 1200 cal average for a 25m time. so he was just over 1200, for a row that its pretty doable. Doing it skiing is just crazy..

Unreal that the Ski ERG came in second. As a cyclist, I thought for sure cycling would be the easiest to sustain a high power output. I wonder if the machines have different efficiency calibrations.
I hit 1000 cals in 50 minutes on the regular.
The power output is supposed to be normalized from machine to machine but holding high wattage with legs alone is pretty tough. I can get the highest cal/hour on the bike but I can't sustain it for as long.
People believe ski erg is harder because they don’t have correct technique. Optimising technique on the ski makes it on par with the row and bike

You should try a race with “broncos” essentially it is 20 back 40 back 60 back 5 times equaling one bronco, it’s a great way to get cardio on and it is also helps gage you fitness for rugby!

The damper setting should be about 5 for a 500 calorie race. Also if you have a pm5 monitor you can do a countdown for the calories 500 to 0 with a projected finish time. In your upcoming race to 1000 calories video that would be very helpful for pacing.

I kinda knew rower gonna win. I always burn more calories while rowing than biking for the same amount of time, and I would that my legs are actually pretty strong. However, in my opinion, if you row properly, you gonna use your legs just as much as your upper body. So you'll be burning a lot of calories, where as in biking, you're only really utilizing your legs.

I’d choose Ski as well. At my box we did 6min on SKI-ROW-Assault BIKE. Had to be within 6 cals on each or your received a 20 cal penalty. I did best on SKI and stopped early to make the row and bike more manageable.
Nick you need to get your cadence much higher. Justin impressed me the most here.

Nick, I want to see you race Justin and Captain Tom in a 2000 meter race on the rowing machine. I would love to get your reaction on whether rowing an all-out 2000 is harder than running an all-out mile.
Hey Nick, you might not read this but I just wanted to let you know that I used some of your advice recently and signed up for a 5K to get myself in shape. I haven't run for 6 months and I'd been struggling to find the motivation to get started again, but in the back of my mind I remembered that you said the best way to get motivated is to sign up for a competition. When I found out that my university was hosting a 5K in a couple weeks, I initially didn't want to participate but then I remembered your advice and committed to the event.
It worked, too! I've been on a few runs already and I'm really enjoying it. I don't know why I ever stopped. The race is soon and I'm not expecting to run fast, but I'm confident that I can run _well_ and push myself to my fullest potential. I just want to thank you, because if I hadn't remembered what you said then it would have been really easy to pass up this opportunity.

Wow! What an amazing showcase of athleticism from you guys!! I'm super impressed with Captain Tom's win, but as a UVA rower, I have a couple of tips on rowing form that would've made his win even easier!
1. Notice how C. Tom had to lift his hands over his knees every stroke? This wastes a lot of energy and makes the recovery sequence more complicated than necessary. To fix this, simply make sure you straighten your arms BEFORE bending the knees.
2. The catch is the start of the drive sequence, and in a shell, this is when you would put your oar into the water. C. Tom's catches looked a little jerky, and this caused him to lose a bit of speed! To fix this, simply raise the erg handle and brace the lats before you start to pull the handle; if your body is already in the proper position, the drive is less jerky and you'll pick up some more speed!
There should be tons of CZcams videos that will show what I'm talking about, but I hope this helps!

to anyone wondering what 500m split tom was holding, it was an ave of 1:49.5 which is pretty good but i could definetly beat that, just a pity i dont live in the US
I recently joined a gym. To be honest my fitness now is trash but 500 calories in 25 minutes? Thats insane although there may be differences among your bikes etc and the ones here and the way they calculate that. Power data would help to understand how tough is that
