- E1: 1917 RM Brooks Store General Store: This Was The first Video I made at the Store.
R.M. Brooks first opened his store in 1917, and it's still ran by his great granddaughter Tiffany. Brook’s is one of the last few stores left in existence where they still have a pot belly stove being used to heat with. Tiffany took over ownership in 2014 and has worked hard to keep the store looking as it did 100 years ago. Make sure not to miss this short documentary about one of the last few original country store still operating.

Tiffany is what America is all about... a nice person, hard working, generous, optimistic, faithful.
Thanks for watching
Agreed 👍
She is a treasure...more than she will ever know. So vital to her community.
Thanks for your comment
Tiffany is someone living out her soul's purpose. Being around her is like being around sunshine, you can sense the warmth and light as God works through her.
What a wonderful soul that lady has! I love her faith in the Lord!
She sure was blessed to be able to have this kind of life. It's amazing how God helps people. I know her great grandparent's, her grandparent's, her parent's worked hard to keep this stores up. It's nice that her husband has helped her too. Like she said God has blessed her by putting the right people in her path. Not everybody gets those kinds of blessings.
So true!Thank you so much for watch my videos and making a comment, I love to hear what people have to say. What state do you watch my videos from? John

Absolutely fabulous. I enjoyed this very much, and every time I got distracted while watching I replayed so as not to miss one bit of this. Really fantastic. Tiffany is truly a special lady. What I wouldn't give for one of them peach pies. . .
Thanks for watching and your comment
An absolutely charming little store! So adorable, messy but not really! It reminds me of old pharmacy counters as a kid. Somewhere where the locals hang out and chat! Every town should have one!

The old Pepsi cooler takes me back. 60 years ago my mom and stepdad ran a service station that had an apartment attached to the back of it where we (including my two brothers and, eventually, my sister) would live. One of my daily "jobs" was to keep the Pepsi cooler filled. The payment was always the same - a free Pepsi. Oh, the memories...

Wow what a great store, I am watching this in London, England and it reminds me of watching Little House on the Prairie back in the day. The owner Tiffany, wow what a cutie, my type of lady.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching
🇺🇲😍🤗💞 YES, DON'T CHANGE IT - We Need A Little Of This Kind Of Simplicity Now!! THANK YOU GIRL👩❤️👩 For Sharing Your Life And Your Family - i Have Some Brooks Connections Up In Southern Ohio. Some Things Aren't For Sale. goldie 🙏🇺🇲
There used to be a small store in Houston county Tn that looked just like this place, and brought back so many memories of RC and Moonpies, bubblegum and pinball and the smell of hand made leather boots. I swear i can smell it as i'm typing. I miss the mom and pops glad to see a few surviving.
I absolutely loved watching this. Loved the history. She is an amazing person. Wish all businesses were run by people like her. She’s not like a lot of owners who all they care about is making all the money they can make for themselves and don’t care about their customers. I wish her all the blessings God can give her. Wish I lived close, I would love to come to her store all the time. I live in central Indiana.

Outstanding. Not easy to make a go of something that mostly passed into history by the 1960's. This is living history of how people in small communities in the Appalachians once lived and the places they depended upon.

There still a lot of country store like this in East Tennessee.
Absolutely love this place and the people who work there. It's a beautiful area!! Great video!
Couldn't agree more!
Wow!!! Fantastic video, truly the ‘backbone of American history’!!! Me & my wife cannot wait to visit!

What a beautiful woman, with a beautiful soul. A testament to what America used to be, we will return greater than ever, with people like her.
I recently stumbled on to your channel, it is truly a gift from God. You’re a blessing to so many people. Praise the Lord and keep those blessings coming❤
I'm just catching this series now. One of the later episodes popped up on my recommended watch list. Loving it. R.M. Brooks is an American gem. Places like this are disappearing as time goes by. I really hope decades from now, Tiffany's family will keep it going.
What a lovely lady. I wish her nothing but many blessings and prosperity with her unique family business ❤
That is cool that it’s been in the family for so long. I live in Washington state and there’s a local country store that’s been here for the same amount of time ( since the 20’s) the family that has it now bought it in the 70’s the mom and dad just passed away last year and now the rest of the family is going to sell the store it’s located at this lake the store also has a camp ground to with trailer hook up, I wish I could buy the place I’ve lived in the area for forty years and got to be friends with the family I went to school with their kids so we all know each other
Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment
I'm just so happy for you, Tiffany. What a breath of fresh air your operation is.
where's this store located at what state?
That 1977 footage was really cool. I like this country life

This place just went on my bucket list! Wonderful video!
(This is Tom, not Sandra.)
Tiffany is a true disciple of God, l believe. She has been blessed by GOD to run this store and love the people who patronize it each and every day. May GOD continue to bless you, Tiffany, for keeping the faith, Mam!!! I really enjoy your videos of the store. Keep them coming!!!
Love it!! Reminds me of Ike Godsey's store on the Walton's.❤️
Yeah it does
So many items in this store remind me of my Great Grandparents store in Baton Rouge back in the 1920's. I was a young fella back in the 50's and loved everything in the store, especially the candy and cookies. Got caught many times with my hand in the Jack's Cookie Jars 😏. Construction of the Interstate took the old store and Hat shop. The Lord has Blessed this Family and business and Pray that it will be there for many years to come serving the area and sharing it's History. Really enjoyed the video, thank you!
Thanks for visiting by my again channel and watching another episode. I also have more then 100 more different videos so please check them out as you have time. John Ward

Actually, there are many different kinds of real Americans. Not many people do what they are doing! I'd say they are unique.
This is great!! Hope to get my great grandfathers ole store , back up and going,.. this is a great inspiration
I hope you do too that would be great! We gotta keep the stores up and running, it’s history in the making. Thanks for watching
I love this store!
Yes, I do too. I love old General Stores from history. Thank you for watching
That's cool to see a place that is still open and with a lot of history in it and to see the love and the hospitality in it . Even so it really rare to see today. It's really sad to see how bad things are today and how people have changed over the years . And that's what I miss about the small towns in Missouri
What a wonderful legacy to inherit. Good for you in keeping up the tradition.

My grandpa had a plumbing and heating shop in Alta Vista, IA. Tiny town. The building was around 90-100 years old when I was a kid. It had dusty wooden floors and one of those old school metal/wooden cash registers that rings when the drawer opens. I remember stealing all the quarters out of it and running to the bar next door to play pool. Sadly, the building burned down around 15 years ago and nothing was able to be salvaged. I’d give anything to have that cash register or be able walk through that shop again. I live 1500 miles away from that town now but i think because of those memories, I have such an appreciation for businesses like these and small towns in general. It’s exactly why I seldom use the interstate, love passing through an unfamiliar little town and stopping at the mom and pops.
Thanks for the comment
Very cool place
It really is! Where do you watch my videos from?
And all of a sudden this turned up on my CZcams feed and I'm hooked .🇦🇺😁🍻. Love it from snowy mountains of Australia

Reminds me my Grandpa would been 17 in 1917 miss these old little store locally owned ran out by big box stores as kid . They couldn't compete on prices so run out of existence. Was dam shame these places are very rare now days . The small mom and pops general store you got best service they actually care about their customers became extended family . Remember when going fishing as a kid we would stop at a general store get supplies , fishing tackle and soda good times . Thinking back these folks were backbone of small community's all across America. My dad lived in rural Nebraska went to one room school all eight grades his grandmother was school teacher. Now days no service people just trying make a pay check don't care about anything else. Think it was sad that more little general store weren't saved . Remember the little general store with fond memories good people always friendly and great service . Humanity ten steps forward and twenty steps backwards ha ha ha for real. Thanks for you saving a slice of small town general store cool . God bless one and all be safe you all.

Too funny...when I was a child I used to make cities out of my blocks. I took a felt pen and wrote on the blocks what the business was I had in my block city. The grocery store I had in my city was named.. "Bob's Bargain Barn", LOL.
Absolutely
Loved the Old Video footage.. what a Treasure to have those ❤️ Wonderful Ms Tiffany is keeping the traditions😊
I looked up the location of this store and would never think of it as Appalachia. It's not even in the mountains. But the people are definitely mountain people! Reminds me of all my mom's relatives in Pike County KY. I never was fortunate enough to live in Appalachia, but I love the stories and learning about it.

With your amazing stock of merchandise, what things are/do you search for? Things difficult to find which customers ask for? Deeply appreciate your basic menu , atmosphere and friendliness.
Thanks so much
I grew up with a couple stores like this. I remember the big soda fridge with the bottle opener. There were boxes for return bottles next to it. You talk about plastic bottles now, we used glass and turned them in. People gathered there an chewed the fat. Community is what we need. I long for it so much.
There were little neighborhood stores everywhere 60 years ago. They're mostly gone now, so I go to a small, congenial Mexican store. I know where everything is; they know me and I know them. Occasionally I go to a big store, but only for a serious necessity and I buy enough for at least a year.
Thank you for this wonderful video and may God always keep you love you and your family i have always said just give it to God and he will take it from there

I was born raised and still live in se Tennessee. When I would stay at my grandparents in the mountains we would go to this country store. The metal drink box with ice keeping bottle cokes and nehi. They had a small meat counter and the owner would slice your balogna and whatever else. The family lived in three rooms in back attached to the store. Great memories! Well, my grandparents built one in Wisconsin. It was small. But it was a general store. My Gramps was an entrepreneur in business. Went to Chicago after gathering his orders. Purchased items just based upon the community needs. Farm country, but not without needs. Fabrics were an essential. All the women sewed. Some men as well. Everyone canned. But spices weren’t grown. Same with paper products from writing papers, pictured postcards and even the luxury of toilet paper. Well, my folks did build a grocery store too. But it included our living quarters too. My Grandparents ran it as my parents had other jobs. It was a small, independent, grocery store in a very poor neighborhood. They gave credit to their customers. Why? Because they knew that these folks would make good in repayment. Even if it was helping my Dad get a plowed path, so he could get to his job. Sadly, things aren’t like how I grew up.

I wish we could go back to having real American country stores again. It's ashame all the foreigners have taken over our convenience stores too. I have went to stores that are out in the middle of nowhere and the foreigners have taken over them too. Glad you shared this video. Brings back some great memories of when I was growing up.
Thank you so much for watch my videos and making a comment, I love to hear what people have to say. What state do you watch my videos from? John
I’m not worried about foreigners owning businesses because I figure if they live here they’re local…I think the issue is more from corporate stores. 🤷🏻♀️
Why is it a shame? I live in RURAL ALABAMA and many foreigners have taken over the older C-Stores too, DO YOU KNOW WHY??? Because they still believe in something called THE AMERICAN DREAM! Something Americans have long since forgotten about. In many cases they've helped older folks retire, they've helped people in debt, they've reopened that abandoned eyesore gas station and made it viable again, they've taken failing stores and made them profitable, but more importantly they INVEST IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. They hire the single mother, they hire the teenager after school, they hire the plumber, carpenter, electrician, and HVAC guy to maintain the store. You're so wrapped up in someone else's nationality that you can't see the big picture because of your narrowmindedness. How can you take over something that was SOLD or RENTED to you? Good grief lady. I live in country bumpkin Alabama and I love my Saudi, Iranian, Korean, and HIspanic neighbors, I walk in their C-Store and it's like going to see a friend - no different than what happens in the video at RM Brooks. All the grandchildren of the "old families" left our town as soon as they graduated high school and never looked back. It has been the Foreigners who have brought my sleepy town back to life! It's not a shame, IT'S THE AMERICAN DREAM in action you're seeing! I myself am proud to see it!
This corner is a lil piece of paradise right here, God bless.
