The main part is it's a harbor freight Chinese made polisher. There's always going to be poor quality issues. It's fine for the weekend person who wants just to wax a car here and there. But if you want a quality polisher get s torque it will last you a lifetime.

I’m a couple of years off but just recently discovered Spray Max clear coat which I been late with. So I decided to get a buffer/polisher. Im just wondering the rubber pad you recommended was on the “Cheaper Model” so your using it more? Better pad compensate Cheaper model so it evens out? Or are you using the cheaper model more till it gives up to get your moneys worth? I just learned about the Dual Action pricey polishers and they stop spinning during certain areas of contours or edges even staying on one spot. Which Dual Actions would you recommend?

    • @ELEVOPR

I'm not really a heavy dual polisher, Just do it was my own cars needed. I end up using a Groits Garage 6.5 pand " www.griotsgarage.com/6-inch-vented-orbital-backing-plate/ " This is a link to the pad I used.
As far as what I used to polish my cars, I use Speed One Step Link here " 3dproducts.com/products/3d-speed-all-in-one-polish-wax " I used to use a 3 step polish, but it was a bit to much for me. I have not polished any of my car in a few years, since I really don't use them as much as I used to. Hope the above helps you some, You may also want to check out some videos, as there may be newer and better products than what i used a few years back.

I just changed my backing plate with a Griot's Garage Vented 6 inch backing plate. HF DA Polisher was the first polisher i ever used. With the GG vented backing plate and Meguiars 6" Micro Fiber Kit that brings all the Polishes and Pads you need to get the job done.,
I was able to bring back a 2002 Mitsubishe Lancer "Rally OZ" Edition, back to life. In all the years i owned that Lancer, Never once was it polished or even waxed, just washed.
With the HF and Meguiars Microfiber Polishing kit. It came back to life. Unbelievable what this Polisher was able to do.
It will take the average person to do a two step polish "Correctly" About 8-12 hours. 4-6 hours for each step. That doesn't include claying the car before polishing is started, which is a must. It is well worth the work my friends, you can fall in love with your car again 😀

Thank you for the nice comparison video. A minor quibble would that a machine made in Japan and a machine made in China would not be of same quality. Japanese-made machines are highly regarded and would be at least on par with USA-made machines whereas Chinese ones are still regarded as low-quality cheap alternatives. There's often a subtle but discernable difference between made-in-China and made-in-Taiwan when it comes to machinery as well. Other than that statement, nicely made video, appreciate it.

Update, I purchased 62862 from harbor freight store Monaca pa. Manager told me that when he looked up sku for 62682 it showed both are the same.
I purchased one used on Ebay and did get the 69924 and there is diffidently a difference in sound and vibration. I used my wife as a independent judge and she could tell the difference.
OK I did order one from harbor freight on-line and waiting for it to come in. Once it comes and I look things over the ones I don`t want will go EBay...

Great video. I searched high and low a couple months ago for someone comparing the older HF Polisher (69924) to the newer one (62862) but there was nothing to be found. I ended up purchasing both and completely tearing them apart to detect difference. There are pros and cons of both. The newer one (62862) is slightly slimmer and definitely lighter, due to different metal used for the main housing. This may also make it feel "cheap" but unless you are using it as a hammer, the casing will be just fine. The bearings on the new one are not sealed (as you mentioned) so that's a win for the older model. The older (69924) model also seemed to run slightly quieter with the newer model having a higher pitch whine (to be honest both are ridiculously loud and should be used with ear plugs). The difference between the fans is that the newer one has a directional fan (blades are angled to direct air in certain direction) while the older one (69924) has non directional blades, just randomly blowing air outwards. The copper windings appear to be better quality and wrapped in more resin on the older model . Ultimately, I stuck with the newer model (62862), primarily for the lighter weight. Unless you are going to work this thing to death, either one is fine for a weekend warrior. If you are still unsure, buy both and test them out. And regardless of which one you get, I would replace the stock backing plate with a quality 5 inch one and replace the grease.

    • @ELEVOPR
      @ELEVOPR  Před 6 lety +4

FlyingPilot2012 You really think 69924 is the older model? Even though it has a higher Model number? Also, I have found videos as far as 5 to 6 years ago on Model 62862 which made me believe that is the older Model?,
For me, the heavier model felt better made and also more solid. For me Model 62862 had alot of play in the head, just by manually spinning it.,
Also i don't think you can change the power button on top side for Model 62862? Some claim they were not able to. Were you?
Either way you are right, you can't go wrong with either one and the lighter model 62862 is easier to grip because of it's slimmer design, Especially if you have small hands. None the less, I preffered the Heaveir Model and more Solidness feel to it, Model 69924.
Thanks for the write up. Nice Job👍

On HF's site, the 69924 has reviews going back 5 years. The 62862 has reviews going back only 2 years.
Also, I've bought a *lot* of HF stuff that got replaced by newer products with lower model numbers. Model # doesn't seem to correlate at all to how new a product is.

I got my 69924 DA buffer today. It had the wobbly Warrior plate and not the Groits. I see why the Warrior plates are all wobbly and eccentric. They force a heavy tool into a small box with the backing plate installed. That causes the problem by putting awkward pressure on the plate and it bends over time. NO BIG DEAL. I ordered the exact parts suggested by EL EVO. While I was at the store I looked at both of the DA buffers. Ran both of them. For sure get the 69924. Better and much smoother running machine. Also, for now Harbor Freight is shipping both DA buffers with the same Warrior plate.

I am buying this tool but I also ordered a new backing plate and foam pads by Lake Country. It was highly recommended to just throw away the HF backing plate because the screw is not centered well and the thicker Lake Country foam pads are safer to use around tight corners. Ordered Meguiars M105 compound touch up paint and touch up clear, 1000,2000&3000 wet sandpaper Going to work on scratches and rock chips in a few weeks.

Great video.. totally agree..the 62862 is a POS...just exchanged mine for the 69924(older model)...used the newer model for a few days, worked great, but would vibrate like crazy.. finally decided to pull the wheel and the excentric weight..come to find out the shaft is bent to the point that the weight was rubbing the inner housing screws,in turn, making the wheel have almost a inch of run-out and getting ridiculously hot ..took another one of the shelf(new one),plugged it in and it also vibrated like crazy... plugged in the older model and it was like night and day..quieter, smoother, and yes, feels way better built.even though im probably only going to use it every 6 months,I'd rather have a unit that's a little heavier, than the lighter one just due to the quality...thanks again for the informative vid.... only thing I did notice is that the newer model has a better backing plate. The plate with the 69924 is horrible....but I swapped plates when I was inspecting them and returned the newer model with the older plate..

Your video was very helpful! The Harbor Freight store in my area only has the "old" version of the 69924 with the "warrior" back plate. My guess is that they have updated the 69924 with the items you discussed without changing the old model number (there are many model numbers for the same machine - cross SKUs). Now that I have watched your video, I'm interested in looking at the new machine. How long ago did you purchase it? Did you order it online? I'm in Ca., and the stores in my area don't have the newer version in stock. Thank you for taking the time to make a video on the differences. I hope the "new" version is going to be available in my area. The changes you mentioned should address a lot of the dissatisfaction with the older machine. Many thanks!!!

schwda01 schwda01 Hi and thanks for the comment. I think the 69924 is the Newer Model then the lower model 62862. The reason i say this is because i have seening the Model 62862 in older CZcams videos. Also 62862 is a lower number then 69924, Model numbers usually Model numbers go up and not down.,
Purchased- 69924 online, at my local store here in NY. They had it in stock as well 62862, so i was able to Exchange 62862 for 69924 which is the better, beefier and heavier model.

I've noticed that HF keeps SKUs for a very long time (i.e. years). I spoke to a manager at HF today, and he said they are only stocking the 69924. I asked him about the back plate (Griot's), and he said that HF doesn't offer a Griot's back plate with the 69924 (they make their own junker). I mentioned your CZcams video, and since I couldn't argue the point any further, I went ahead and purchased the new version of the 69924 (old one has a grey body). I already have Lake Country's 5" back plate / foam pads, so the Griot's wasn't a game changer. When I took the old plate off, I noticed that it has been improved as well (6 rivets vs. 3 etc.). Thanks again for your video!!!

@@ELEVOPR it didn’t work for me on a Chicago Electric Model Number 62862. Took the one screw at the back of the cover out and the 4 screws at the head and opened the unit enough to change the clock position of the switch bringing it to the top. The problem is on my model it has like 4 claws on the housing and they don’t line up but one way with the switch facing the side that the factory manufactured it on. When I purchased this 6” Polisher I was having health problem so I never got to use it. Yesterday Tuesday I used it for the first time and didn’t like the switch on the side of the tool. When I first purchased it years ago the first thing I did was changed the grease inside of it then put it away. I wish I would have known then that Model # 62862 switch can’t be moved like it could on Model #69924 buy just changing the clock position.

Unfortunately, that is not a dual action polisher. It is a plain rotary polisher that will require a lot more skill to properly use that. Or, it can easily damage the surface.
DA polishers can be distinguished by a big cylinder attached on the head.
Now, only DA polisher they are carrying is Bauer...

    • @MotownRockinroller
      @MotownRockinroller Před 5 lety

I didn't say mine was a dual action polisher. And the "skill" required for a rotary polisher (vs a DA) is nothing more than using it on low speed with a low abrasive product, then working your way up as you get more comfortable. The lowest speed on mine is hardly more than rubbing by hand. The learning curve is very slight, and the positive aspect of the rotary vs DA is that you will not outgrow the rotary.

Interesting. Can you back up your claim with actual product use? Has the "cheaper" one failed or perform any less than the heavier one? Poor casting and paint are not points I would consider when determining what model to get. Its going to get dirty and chipped with use anyway. Lighter weight does not mean poor performance either. A huge example is the auto industry. They try to lighten cars all the time to improve the power to weight ratio. If your doing a lot of work with these polishers, you will be much happier with the lighter one in your hand that's for sure! Thank you for providing the physical differences but they are rated the same and as I said; you have provided no proof the lighter one performs any less than the heavier one. You also call out the wrong backing plate. The "better" one as you claim does not come with the black backing plate. It comes with the same one the smaller unit does. You either got a return forgot to mention that.

I told him that's confusing and asked "so there's no difference there just the same?" And he says yes same thing just different model numbers and there both made in different factories but there the same company and same everything else they just different model numbers for record keeping so they know. That's basically what he told me. I'm still confused because I know you took them apart and checked them both out to see if they were any different and where different so Idk man. Both polishers come with a warranty that you can purchase and will replace the unit if it fails within 2 years or so if I'm correct..

Lucas Ornelas From what i see, they may be same in some areas, but not all. They have different outer cases and the beefier one has alot better machined parts. I cant see why they would make one one pound lighter then the other? I am almost sure the beefier one which is 1lb heavier and better machined is costing them more to make. Harbor frieght is not being honest in their response. I would not rely on what Employees say regarding both models. Only Corporate knows why there are two different models, by the same Manufacturer? Could be to make it lighter? If that is the case, then they are making it cheaper and not as good as the beefier model "69924"

But in cases where they are made by the same manufacturer, the differences in the design dictates they be assigned a different model number. It's not only HF that does this; it's industry wide for everything that's manufactured.

I went to harbor freight and asked the same question. Manager told me they come from MFG`s but are the same ????
I ordered one on line to see what I get...If its different will take back the 62862

In case anyone is wondering, different part number means different manufacturer. Sometimes the product looks exactly the same but isn't. My experience with the torque wrenchs were that some were made in China, some in Taiwan. The chinese made ones didn't work straight out of the box but the Taiwanese made has been fine. I personally would go with Taiwan when you have a choice, country of origin is listed on the box. FYI I purchased the 69924 today and was told it was 90 day warranty with receipt unless you purchase 2 year warranty.

Tone Win Thanks for the info. When did you by that model? Where did you buy it at? Online or store. Also where are you located? That could explain alot.,
I don't see anything on model 62403 on the HF Web Site. So your model may even be older?

I'm looking at a coupon that was emailed to me from HF back in April of 2017 and it has 3 model #'s on the coupon, 62403, 62862, & 69924

Greg Wallace Yes, their were 3 model numbers , but now there are two model numbers only being sold.,
Having 3 models numbers tell me that HF has 3 different Manufacturers making these DA Polishers and now they are down to only two Manuracturers. I could be wrong, but thats my guess.

It's now a Bauer model only and the last digit is up from 4 to 9 and people are still reviewing them and saying the new ones aren't as good. They change constantly.

I love Harbor Freight tool for making things affordable. But people need to understand that buying Harbor Freight tools is like buying an International or AMC. No two were ever exactly alike.

@@bjr2379 true but when what was old is better than what is new..some time you need to cut your losses and invest a little more for a quality item that will last you a life time.

Lucas Ornelas How are you confused? Just go with the better made, beefier and heavier one. Hope that help you some :o)

EL EVO got it. Checked my local HF, and they only have the older heavier thicker one on the shelves. Couldn't find the slimmer one. either I made an error, or they really only carry that model at this time.
