At 45 u got me started in detailing as well. I just sent my wife a text describing what I can do for her car. I told her I can start with a cleansing foam and wash to dig in and extract all the years of grease and grime, then go over it with a clay bar to remove residue and hard pieces caked into the gloss and finally the last step to polish, buff and shine leaving a ultra glossy clearcoat finish using a hand polisher that my dear friend "Dallas" recommends, lol! I told her i can do all that for the measly small price of $150. Her response was, "well it does need it", booyah baby! First job sank! Thank u Mr. Dallas Meguiar of Scottsdale!

I hate to admit it but I've been scared to do this for a couple years. My wife is a nut about her 2001 Lexus GS300. In fact she does not want a new car, so I've been getting it mechanically sound for a couple years replacing everything needed, timing chain, seals, spark plugs and coils and coil wires, all wiring in the engine bay, radiator, new OEM wheels and tires, you know everything so that it is good to go again. Finally we are there as of today with a new windshield. Now I'm going to tackle the oxidized paint. Thanks man you helped me not be scared and you are awesome man!

Thanks for taking the time to do this, good content. However, and it's not just this one, but almost every demo video is shown on an ideal large flat surface, virtually impossible to make a mistake. What beginner's need to know is how to approach imperfect surfaces, ie. hard to reach and/or small areas, shaped surfaces, body curves and by far the most important is edges, which is where almost all beginner power buffing paint damage occurs, as 100% of the pad is focused on the very small paint surface area of that edge. Granted with a DA you're basically safe, but this is knowledge beginner's need most.

I used this DA to get into polishing. I started with a very non-aggressive method, 6.5 in white hex logic pad and a 4oz sample size of optimum hyper polish that was only $5. I even use the warrior backing plate without issue, although as a novice dont know the difference between good and bad in that regard. I did buy a 3" plate from Chem guys for tighter areas. I've owned my car from new for 2 years, always used 2 bucket method and had very slight wash marring, light scratches from removing snow in the winter, etc. The paint is black and I was very nervous I would haze or hologram the paint. No problem with the white pad and hyper polish, removed a very high % of the defects. Thats my recommendation to start in correction.

I detailed cars for side money in high school
and I wish these had existed then! I could have done some amazing work and made a lot of money with one of these machines! I did all my compound & polish work by hand. I was able to get good results but MAN was it a lot of work! This was in the early 2000’s right before the PC 7424 hit the scene.
Would love to see your thoughts on the newest polisher from HF, the Bauer 20 mm orbital unit. Just picked one up but have not had time to try it out yet. I did convert it to a 5” backing plate since that’s what I prefer as well.
My jobs tend to be very neglected between details so I’m hoping the Bauer long throw will speed up paint corrections. My HF DA will get the job done but sometimes takes a while and the noise and vibration gets tiring. It’s a good machine, just very outclassed by some of the defects I’m trying to remove. I’ll definitely be keeping mine around and will keep it set up for 3” pads for working on smaller areas.

Scott, your videos are truly an inspiration to me. I just bought the Harbor Freight da and I'm planning on replacing the backing plate with Lake Country as you mentioned in a previous video. My question is do I need multiple size backplates for my Toyota 4Runner. Do you use a smaller backing plate and pad on the skinny strips along the windshield, between the door and roof rack, etc? Or, do you use the larger backing plate and pad for the whole car? Can you make a video showing how you deal with these smaller, misshapen areas of the car. If you do use a smaller pad, do I need to change the counterweight in the da? Thanks for all of your great videos!

Hey Scott, good day. FYI I love the purple power vehicle and boat wash; it is amazing! Also, I have had my Chicago Electric Da for months now and a better backing plate and good pads. I have had m105 and 205 for months as well but never really needed it for my car. I know somebody that was going to buy a new hood for his Camaro because it is heavily oxidized!! But he let me see what i could do before he bought it lol. It was in the 60's outside and partly cloudy. I used the m105 and it was working great but the sun came out. I continued but i added like a spray of detail spray to the pad and it helped with working time. As time went on i must have added too much detail spray and when i turned on the da, the m105 just FLEW everywhere.. ALL over the car (and this is with the pad facing down touching the paint). It took me like an hour to get the stuck m105 off the car. Hours later, everything turned out great. Just thought id share that.
Do you have any tips on extending working time with m105 and any tips with possibly using it in sunlight?
Also, i found something for people with electric pressure washers that use the mtm hydro foam cannon. If they are obsessed with getting more foam but have a cheap pressure washer, you can buy the smallest "orifice" from mtm's website and it really helps with the foam clinging to the paint.

yes M105 likes to dust...when working in the sun just work in smaller areas...but i would use something like griots fast correcting cream or menzerna fg400 which will dust less and easier to work in direct sunlight...also make sure you clean your pads often or buy more pads so your always working clean and that will cut down on dusting..adding a detail spray or water to your pad will help as well but M105 is a little tricky either way in direct sunlight so i would work in a 1x1 area than 2x2 when working in direct sunlight and on a warm to hot panel

Thats what I'm talking about, teaching people rather than wasting time arguing with other CZcamsr's. Way to go Scott. But I'm 61 not 16 but I do look young for my age. Ahahahha

Hi Scott, after watching all your videos I feel confident to start doing paint correction on our vehicle (and others).(Thank you for making these great videos and inspiring me). I'm 56 so you feel MY pain..lol. So I picked up the hf d/a today for $48 using 20% coupon and the backing seems improved? 6 rivets and screw was straight! I have ordered Lakewood 5" backer and pad assortment along with griot fcc. So just to try it out today on my 2009 RAV4 I used a crappy orange foam and Maguire's #83 that I had at home. I had just previously clayed and hand polished the car..the hood has lots of defects as you would imagine. My question is the mg #83 and cheap orange foam didn't address any defects but did polish the surface ok..would this be a typical result considering the items used? I anticipate FAR better results when I get the griot fcc and lake country pads. Thanks for your time to reply and sharing your knowledge,I can't thank you enough!

Nice and simple beginner video. Beginner Question: What care care products (polishes, compounds, soaps, waxes, sealants, etc.) should be stored indoors and which can be stored in a garage?
