Yes, yet somehow the judges kept guessing wrong. what’s worse is that when Jenny said Pentatonix, Nicole even heard this, goes, “I’m also a pentatonix fan, but I think this could be the cast of Hamilton….” Um no, girl! Don’t even say you’re a fan, if you heard their vocals, they’re harmonizing, the fact that it’s 4 guys and a girl, both Scott and Mitch’s distinctive voices….and still say, nope, not them!!🤦♀️ I was pretty irritated with the judges!
@@barbaro4evr135 I mean the first note out of Scott's mouth, even when he was trying to disguise his voice it was clearly PTX. Then Matt's lows, and Mitch's highs. If it took Kevin Beatboxing in the semifinal to clue someone in, they were hilariously unaware.

Their voices have developed so much over the last couple of years, but how can that be, they were so good already! I think they are allowing themselves to be more adventurous and succeeding brilliantly. I just love the way you can both hear and explain the mechanics and musical artistry. Thank you so much.
I watched it last night, when they sang it on stage after revealed their faces on the masked singer. It gaves me goosebumps to see them singing it live! Wow!
Watching everyone in the audience lose their minds when they realized it was Mitch singing the high notes and not Kristie was the best Mitch Slap ever.
Yea….they said the hardest part was arranging the song so fast. The first few weeks they want them to try and disguise their voices…..it didn’t fool any of us. This was just full out PTX for the semi-finals. ❤❤
No one alters a song for an upgrade like PTX, and Scott can try to disguise his voice all he wants but the moment he does a run it's so clearly Scott because he never misses on those live.
I love this cover just because it feels like a trailer and it feels like they are experimenting and I love it when they are using instruments
That "ru-oh-uah" was Scott joining Mitch in the stratosphere. Around 9:33 as you replayed it.... Kirsten was also weaving in and out but she was more in sync with Mitches lane. And yes Kevin was singing in this. Full instrumentation backing them.

I am willing to BET that I had some of your exact expressions when I heard this the first time. I've listened to it a bunch of times now, and I keep getting MORE impressed! I having been saving this fir just the perfect time. I will NEVER get tired of watchhing your masterful educated breaking down each and every note. No one else can do it like you can!! The anniversary of my dads death was yesterday. He was my support system again mom as you know. For that breakout ("canon") section while Mitch is sustaining that last "Run," I think you're right that Kevin does that first moving line, then Kirstie and Scott coming in together in harmony. Love your ear!
Edit: I also think I agree with you that it sounds "noisy" at parts. Shawn Stockman nailed it on the sing off when he said that what makes PTX is that you can pick out everyone's part. I think they were excited to get to arrange with instruments for the Masked Singer but it can muddy things. They seem to strike a better balance when it's just them plus a piano or a cello, but the a whole synth shelf was a little much. Maybe that could have been improved in sound editing or was just down to this specific arrangement, idk
I agree - I couldn't hear the vocal parts nearly as much as when watching acapella performances.

If you want more insight on this song, Make sure you watch the semi final episode of the Masked Singer. Go to the very end when Pentatonix is unmasked. They perform it live on stage. Normally on masked singer when the artist is revealed and they sing again unmasked, after the first couple lines or a verse, the episode ends without finishing the song. For the first time they did not end it, they showed pentatonix singing the entire song through to the end.
Also, you should react to the rest of their songs on the masked singer. They performed as California Roll.
I don't watch TMS so I did not know that they usually cut off the song and the fact that they let the world see PTX do the full song goes to show the power they have over their audience 🥰

I had never heard the original until after I heard the PTX version. PTX version all day. A serious UPGRADE. Might be the biggest upgrade since 12 Days of Christmas or Over the River.
I believe that is scott doing the high note with mitch qofy you can hear his tone off voice in it and then definitely sounds like all 3 of them definitely see why they couldnt get past us pentaholics on the masked singer haha 😅

Oh, this needs a video. If only to see how whoever is making the Djenty guitar sound does that. If I didn't know these guys were a capella, I would have assumed that was guitar and drums. And whatever that background instrument that's supposed to be. Keyboard? Bass?

If you notice, Matt has distortions on his voice that would easily make the guitar sound. KO makes a perfect Tom sound and cymbal crash. A little layering and there you go.
I think it may have been Kevin doing the high part with Mitch because this was not acapella. It was performed on The Masked Singer, so he didn't beat box like he normally would!!!

It finally happened, PTX did a song I don't like. I'm glad other people like it, but I was giving it a chance, until all that high note chaos.That was just to much for me. I didn't even mind that it wasn't accepala, all that chaos was just too much.
Still like Postmodern Jukebox featuring Haley Reinhard’s cover of Creep much better. Her version is an instant Masterpiece! An Instant Classic! Check it Out!
I think expressing your preference to other versions is the best way to come at me with a request to check something else out. But you started it all wrong by saying someone else was better than this. I don’t agree and I have no interest in checking it out
Masked singer
I know this will be an unpopular opinion. But the first time I heard this on the Masked Singer I hoped it wasn’t PTX. I hated what they did to this song. I’ll give them credit for trying something new to hide their identity, but in my opinion it didn’t work.
As someone who loves both Radiohead and PTX, this was not something they ever needed to cover. Sorry but no.
Nice opinion. Besides the fact that this was for a masked singer competition and not a specific serious cover, I think every artist should be free to explore any way they want to cover something. To say they “didn’t need” to cover it is to misunderstand what artistry is all about in the first place. How else would they know it would be good or not if they don’t put it out there? Just like every song they’ve covered. Some works some doesn’t but they needed to do them to find out.
The worst cover so far. I can't say how much I'm disappointed with it. I was huge fan of Pentatonix, but through years they lost this magical "something" that made them special...
