fun fact about Just Dance being on the Wii: apparently they did it specifically because there are a lot of hospitals around the world that use the game to help people teach themselves how to move their limbs again in a fun way back when it first came out, and as time progressed those hospitals couldn't really warrant the budget to upgrade to a WiiU so the developers in response kept up Wii support until the Switch arrived and was in the hands of more people, making Just Dance 2020 one of the last games to release for the Wii.

It's crazy how little Rockstar cares just putting the PS3 trailer footage right on the PS5 reveal of GTA V, not even pretending that there would be new bells and whistles.
one of my favorite cases of cross-gen games is ghostbusters: the video game. the ps3/360 version of the game had photorealistic graphics (for the time), while the ps2/xbox version had a completely unique art style based on the real ghostbusters cartoon, but they both had the same plot, both were voice acted by the original ghostbusters, and they both had almost identical levels.

This reminds me of an idea that I had for what they should have done if they brought battlefront 2 2017 to the switch instead of using the photo realistic models from the PS4 Xbox One versions they should use the art style from 2008 clone wars

I appreciate the fact that MGSV was on the PS3 so I can play the entire series on one console. It ran suprisingly well.
Same, even though I had a PS4 at the time I still bought and played the PS3 version so I could have the whole series just on PS3.
Probably cause a lot of the hard work in coding was done with MGS4 and the PS3 is a beast that is hard to emulate even on modern PC's
PS3 englobing 3 console generations allowed entire franchises to be played on a single console. GTA, Siren, Silent Hill, Persona, Burnout, Sly Cooper, Twisted Metal, etc.
@lasthopelost9090 has less to do with the ps3 being a beast and more on how the systems hard ware ran games no system before or after ran games like the ps3 did it was just that different but of you figured it out the console was a beast but emulations has issues due to how the system operated and not really the hardware
There been some older consoles like I think the Sega Saturn had its own emulation issues as well

I remember being pretty disappointed myself after playing my friends ps3 version the same day i got my ps2 version cause i was still on the ps2 at the time and never knew the versions would be different

If you look at the two box arts, they were actually planning on this. The DS box is looking down into the hole the GBA art is looking up from. Which mirrors how you'd have the DS cartridge in the top slot and the GBA in the bottom slot.
I believe there was even exclusive content for doing so (like Pokemon you could only recruit by having both cartridges)

I pre-ordered the GameCube version of Super Paper Mario with my own, hard-earned money. The game then got canceled last-minute and was released as a Wii exclusive. Even worse, GameStop screwed me over because they refuse to “lose money” and because I was under 18, they told me that I couldn’t get a refund and that I was “just a kid”. (I was in middle school at the time and had worked & saved unbelievably hard to do the $60+ layaway.) Even when my mother came into to store no less than 20 minutes after their initial attempt to swindle me to demand my refund, the inbred, snot-nosed Mr. Meaty-looking clerk (who was barely 4 years older than me) wouldn’t give my refund, made-up another convoluted lie and told me that I had to exchange it for a GameCube game of equal value, so I wound-up with my GC copy of Twilight Princess-the only fresh, brand-new $60-$65 game they had.
Seriously, I saved up a month-and-a-half’s of chore money to buy Super Paper Mario, (and truth be told, I’m still bummed the it never released for GameCube), but I am happy to have an original owner & player of TLoZ:TP.

Changing Link's model actually would've been more work than just mirroring everything. That may sound ridiculous, but consider: changing Link's model would require actually... changing the model. Mirroring the game, that's something that can be programmed into the rendering process without changing anything about the game itself. In fact, they were planning on changing Link's model for the Wii version of Twilight Princess, realized that they didn't have enough time to do that, and so decided to mirror the game instead.
I always assumed changing the model would just be akin to opening a picture up in photoshop and hitting the flip button. I'm not a game developer though so maybe it isn't that simple
9:09 all I'm saying is, the optimization on MGSV was a godsend. I didn't have a modern console at the time but I was able to build a cheap PC that was barely able to run it, and it actually stayed above 60 FPS most of the time.

Considering the games that came to the vita in Japan it doesn’t surprise me. Though I bet JoJo eyes of heaven still plays good on PS3, a lot of the vita ports not so great.

Need for speed Most Wanted 2005 was released on a lot of current consoles (Xbox, PS2, and PC), and then modified versions were released for previous generations that went from okay to strait up looking like Asteroids. But them for the new Xbox 360 they re-release the game but improved the graphics a lot, and the difference made it look a lot newer than it was.

That’s the thing they kind of guessed how much power the new consoles were going to have and they missed the mark by a pretty good amount.
(those anemic jaguar cores were the main problem/bottleneck) Like I said they didn’t exactly hide it but the PC version actually has the settings that people saw in the original trailer before the consoles were officially revealed and their specs.

9:24 It could also be the fact that, with the release of this game, you can play every single Metal Gear game besides Portable Ops and Ghost Babel on PS3. Portable Ops' plot wasn't incredibly important, basically sidelined as a side story in Peace Walker (all that really seems to be referred back to in the overall canon is Snake meeting Roy Campbell and establishing Foxhound, Peace Walker is far more important to the franchise due to its ties to Phantom Pain), and Ghost Babel was not canon.

@@Flow-.- EA for whatever reason just really like milking cash out of games. Take another really recent example. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2010 (PS3, 360) got a remaster released for PS4 and XB1. This seems normal so far until you get to the PC version. I had this game for PS3, then one day decided to buy it again on my PC some years later for the 60 FPS and better graphics, etc. Then the remaster comes out. Instead of updating the PC version to current specs, PC players had to buy the same game AGAIN pretty much
Edit: the sneaky bastards at EA may or may not have noticed this, so the PC version of the remaster is $30 as opposed to $40 for the console versions I guess to “compensate” for PC players who already had a perfectly functioning and updatable game
@@Flow-.- fifa 14 ps4, ps3 and ps2 all ran on different engines.
the ps3 version was actually different from fifa 13 ps3 (well as different as most fifa games are from each other), but different than fifa14 ps4 (i played that year on both, i remember crossing was a lot more overpowered on ps3). on ps3 starting in 2015 they just used literally the exact same game as fifa14 but with updated rosters.
the ps2 version was literally the exact same as previous ps2 fifas but with updated player rosters. They made this because in south america games consoles are way more expensive (both compared to actual wages and compared to prices in north america), so a lot still had ps2's. And of course soccer is popular in south america so many people still bought ps2 versions.
@@terminhaider9695 paying for a good remaster on pc isn't uncommon. dark souls did the same thing except the update was actually half price if you owned the unremastered version.
a lot of work goes into remasters, i do agree that they should be cheaper for people who own the last version but it makes sense to charge for it. new textures and compatibility has to be done, if you don't like that then play the version you already own

Fifa 12 was released in North and South America as well as Europe. the main competitor of ea, konami had a lot of PES games on ps2, earliest ones used the winning eleven name before switching to PES. the PS2 version of PES 2013 was released in North and South America as well as Europe. PES 2014 was released on the PS2 as well but only in Europe. there was a PSP version of PES 2014 as well which was released in North and South America as well as Europe.

Early Call of Duty is an interesting case. The original was PC exclusive, then they released Finest Hour on GC, PS2, and Xbox which had a different story. Then Call of Duty 2 was a PC and 360 exclusive, but they released Big Red One on the old consoles. Again two different stories, and CoD2 had auto health recovery, but Big Red One still had a health bar and pickups.

For a lot of the older systems, it's usually foreign countries that keep it alive. The ps2 was so popular in Brazil because tariffs and tax made newer hardware ridiculously expensive. I remember seeing how expensive an PS4 was in Brazil. The tariffs were so high that if you took the cost and converted it back to US dollars it was about $1800 lmao.

Titanfall 1 was specifically designed for the Xbox One and wasn't being built with the Xbox 360 in mind, there was a completely separate team who was hired to make an Xbox 360 port of the game. Titanfall 1 had no business running on an Xbox 360 but the developers worked some magic and made it possible which is a very impressive feat to accomplish

A little surprised you didn't mention Ghostbusters: The Video Game from 2009. (with a remastered 10th anniversary edition in 2019) The Xbox 360, Windows, and PS 3 versions all went with a realistic look while the PS 2, PSP, Wii, and DS got stylized designs reminiscent of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon. The Wii version used the motion controls to simulate firing the proton pack which really added to the gameplay in my opinion. The DS version was squad-based tactical where you control the original cast instead of an un-named rookie. The story is mostly the same, adapting unused Ghostbusters 3/Hellbent ideas. Some folks have made supercuts of it as a movie
