    good job....I'm an old guy playing softball. I've developed some bad, "lazy", throwing habits over the years as a shortstop...short arming the ball and flipping the throw which worked in my younger days, not so much now. So I'm viewing your vids to help my mechanics as my are is still pretty strong and my throws are 99% on line, but they are dropping or I'll drive them short and hard into the ground on a hop. I'm going to work on a better release point as a result of your vid. Thanks

    I really enjoy your videos and use your advice regularly with my own son as well as his little league team that I coach. My 9 year old is a smaller kid and struggles at the plate. He opens up early and swings primarily with his hands without engaging his lower body. I have tried repeatedly to work on this with him but have not found a technique that works. Could you offer any suggestions? He just got picked up by a 10U travel team that is very experienced and he is struggling with his confidence because he is much smaller and younger and his bat is struggling. His travel coaches are trying to work with him as well but again we haven't found a technique to get him to engage his legs, hips, and core yet. Thank you again!

    Hi Justin! This is a "long" comment, but I have to say man, I watch every single video that you post here since the first time I've found your channel, and I can assure, they are all very helpful and very good in quality and content. Honestly, thank you very much! I'm brazilian (as you may know, baseball here is not traditional as in the U.S., not even close, and the level here is pretty amateur most of the times and places, there's a small amount of professional baseball here, if any), and I play for an amateur team here. I really want to help to make baseball more popular here, and I want to know If there's any possibility for you to allow me to make versions of your videos with subtitles (or make subtitles and send to you) in brazilian portuguese, just for the learning purpose. I'm think this would be a great opportunity to give something concrete for those who want to learn around here and don't speak and understand english as I do. At the same time, it could help to increase your following here as well. It's just an idea, ;-) Again, thank you very much for your time and dedication teaching us a lot of things. I hope you have great income with your knowledge as well. Cheers! Gabriel

    I like this drill but being a cathcer on my school team, we have to have a shorter "windup" to be able to throw out runners. I find my self throwing with my elbow and shoulder level but my forearm and hand are almost ontop of my shoulder. My elbow then hurts since it is a whipping motion but all of my teamates have the same throw style and complain aswell

    • @aarondumlao7210
      @aarondumlao7210 Před 7 lety +2

      ChaseGuitar Hi Chase! When i just started playing baseball my elbow hurts too when i throw. What you just do is try adjusting your throwing arm so when you throw it doesn't hurt. My problem was because my elbow was pointing down instead of facing the side.

    • @halomanYT
      @halomanYT Před 7 lety +3

      ChaseGuitar u probably r throwing weird

    • @wndude
      @wndude Před 7 lety +7

      Probably late on this response but if your elbow is hurting you are suffering from tendinitis in the elbow. This is a result of excess force exerted on your elbow when throwing. This is due to bad form. You might notice that you are either snapping your elbow too much upon release or that your arms are not following through correctly. Something you can work on is making sure your elbow is at your shoulder level and that your arm forms an L with the ball facing away. Next, what you want to do is have your torso come over your waist and then have your arm reach OVER your torso so that your elbow isn't exerting the force behind the throw. Also, try to make sure that your forearm does not extend TOO far behind your elbow as your arm is going through it's motion from start position up until release. This is REALLY bad for the elbow. Lastly, you want to follow through with your whole arm going ACROSS your body. A tip I give and even follow myself is to put a batting glove on my left back pocket (I am a righty) and try to tap/slap the glove in my back pocket at the end of my follow through. This ensures that I am correctly following through. By following these steps, you will find that your elbow will not feel stress and you will be feeling more soreness/stress in your shoulders. Ultimately you want to rest up your arm if you are feeling pain in your elbow BEFORE trying these new tweaks in your form. Feel better, I hope this helps!

    • @taylorallen2695
      @taylorallen2695 Před 7 lety

      wndude your forearm going behind the elbow is a good thing. its called arm lag and its what separates a good arm from a great one.

    • @wndude
      @wndude Před 7 lety

      Taylor Allen your forearm should only be lagging behind your elbow during external rotation. At this point your body is exerting so much force that it will naturally happen. There is a difference between cocking it behind your elbow (before external rotation) and having it naturally snap after using correct form. In fact, some people accidentally create "elbow lag" in the cocking position, which is bad. Your forearm should NOT be behind your elbow until you have finished your delay hold and cocking position. People who suffer from tendinitis are probably dropping their elbows when cocking and then you have this dragging of the "elbow lag" WAY before you should and the elbow is not in the correct position for the external rotation. What ends up happening is that the tendons start to tear little by little until eventually, you blow your arm out.

    • @Javier_Flores4
      @Javier_Flores4 Před 6 lety

      Tyricus Tucker have your son really focus on mechanics, at home or before a game I like to warm up with some pitches to a net I made, and I fully focus on mechanics, not velocity or various pitches, rather a really tight grip, and complete isolation in the legs, then the hips, shoulder, and back, then a slow one motion throw, and also when he lifts his leg, make sure it’s right down the midpoint, the midpoint it’s from the top of his lips down to legs, and balance is huge, work on balance, but it’s really just mechanics, make sure he had mechanics, but that’s all I really got, my coach told that to me and I found it helpful, but good luck to your son, and his mechanics

    Hey Coach, so I need an opinion. About the beginning of last baseball season I was throwing about 73 mph in 13u baseball. My first game I hurt my arm. I dropped down to a max of 64. I never found out what happened. I theorized I was either over working my arm/throwing too hard, I had the wrong mechanics, or I tore a muscle. Now it still isn’t fully repaired to how it used to be and dosent feel the same. Now I think it may be mental and I may need to see a sports therapist. The pain was mainly to the right of my biscep. I would really appreciate hearing what you think or your opinion, lemme know if you need to know anything else

    • @fellowcomrade7914
      @fellowcomrade7914 Před 2 lety

      Hey I know this is a year old and a dead comment, but I believe I know what happened to your arm because it happened to mine. What I was doing for a really long time was that I wasn’t actually getting backspin on the ball, and my wrist sort of collapsed and spun, similar to how you would throw a curveball. This twisting motion is really hard on your arm, and it can be difficult to notice if you aren’t looking at the spin of the ball every time. One telltale sign is that you are throwing hard, but your ball just keeps going down and you aren’t able to make far throws. Another telltale sign is that when you make a bad throw, which is often if you have this habit, you will always miss down and to your left, to the right for the person catching it. I kept doing this through my freshman year of high school baseball and I actually developed tendinitis in my bicep. The pain was a sharp pain that lasted only a second when I released the ball, and then after a duration of time my arm would get an aching pain that would get progressively worse slowly until it became unbearable and was very hard to get pain relief at this point unless you had an ice pack. I hope you get this comment because I have started trying to stop this habit, even though this is a hard one to stop because it is purely in your muscle memory which means lots of drills and lots of repetition.
