    They're using some of what Wash teaches but not everything. If you watch the Ozzie Albies/Wash video, it's two hands when the ground ball is in the middle, and one hand to glove side or backhand. Albies fields balls in the middle with two hands -- to each his own. At the end of this Swanson video, watch his footwork as he opens up the stance slightly on ground balls as he fields them which opens up the glove slightly and creates a bigger pocket. The best in the game work on stuff like this everyday.

Dansby talks about catching the ball with one hand while Tulo always emphasize just stoping the ball while using 2 hands. Just find it cool because you need to find out what kind of defender you are and just work on being the best you can. Love you Dansby ❤❤❤

    Playing the outfield in senior slow pitch softball, I make these running "ice cream' catches on flies from all angles, I get admonished by an occasional infielder in the dugout, one of the old pros..."young man, two hands"......I am serious but my face is about to crack a smile. regarding in-between hops: the normal approach is to pivot back to receive the ball at a better spot in the arc. As a little league coach should I ditch teaching pivots and train players to be more aggressive?? obvs we're talking fast plays only I'm guessing.

    • @gabrielfigueroa4886
      @gabrielfigueroa4886 Před 11 dny

      I think it's best to incorporate both approaches into practice, and to explain why each approach is correct in certain situations (in this case, the speed of the groundball). This play calls for quick decision-making too so don't be alarmed if kids aren't consistently making these plays off the rip. In little league, building confidence is important, so if your team has trouble staying in front (or attacking) the ball, then go ahead and throw some of that practice in there. Nothing wrong with having multiple ways to solve the same problem. Hope this helps :)

    Honest question here; in the last video of yours I watched, you mentioned that all the great defensive plays are made with one hand. If thats actually how you feel, then why practice with the flat pad? Doesn't that reinforce that players SHOULD be getting their throwing hand on the ball right away, or essentially making a two-handed catch?

    i think there is WAY too much "thinking" involved with sports now. just develop a habit that works for you and catch the damn ball. theres a million batting stances that have worked for professional hitters. theres no right or wrong way to hit a ball or field a ball. what matters is your consistency in your craft and getting the job done. all the little details are BS. there are PLENTY of pro's that go "against the books" of fundamentals in a way. repetition is everything. a player who studies youtube videos of "lessons" for 2 hours a day rather than taking 2 hours of grounders will be left behind. what works for this guy almost never works for that guy. what works is practice. period
