Rumor has it 90% of Range Rovers are still on the road...
The other 10% made it to the repair facility under their power while the others are on the road still waiting for a recovery vehicle.

RUMOR? I love hearing things like that - information that even if it were true tells you NOTHING. Just because a Vehicle can make it to a repair facility under their own power is not indicative of the cost of the repair or the time to actually get the parts to repair the vehicles as well. And while the number is under 70% still on the road (In the US for the Defender) - if you had that much invested in a Vehicle, you would continue to get it repaired as well. We are talking about a very low volume of vehicles here - most models sell less than 500 per year. IF they were both RARE and DESIRABLE - they would fetch huge values. THat they cannot give old ones away tells you otherwise

And i have to say i was lucky and never had any issues. i had it serviced, changed brakes etc at a normal price not the rr prices. I've had a great experience with my car. People, it is ok to go with your local mechanics to fix your cars they know what they're doing. Just do your research and you'll find amazing mechanics out there and you'll be paying a low price for fixing your car. (any car) rr even wanted to charge me $310 to change my cabin and engine filters, i said i can change it myself and i did. It was sooo easy. Welll....... i gotta puh back a little. I bought a 2006 L320 (range rover sport hse) in 2020 from the first and only owner, off of craigslist ....... a nice lady from Nashville,TN. She lived here in Palm Beach at the time. The point is that i have had no major issues at all. Bought the truck and did basic maintenance immediately... oil change, filters, transmission fluid change, differential fluid change for the 4 wheel drive. Total, about 500 including labor. NO ISSUES. In 22,i changed the battery and spark plugs, total 450. That was mostly labor for the plugs installation. The battery was like 200. If yourgonnabuy used, find the owner and buy directly from them. Get vehicle maintenance information to know where you stand. I love my range and will get a newer one now thst they are using bmw engines and transmissions again. Certain years had jag engines.... NIGHTMARE!!! Mine has Bmw. Oh,i bought her with 119 thousand and change on her. Now,shes at 165 plus. 😊

The D2 is pure heavy metal and thus far the most reliable of the 3. The D2 is so classic. They are amazing and high maintenance. If you love them you don't care. Regular Maintenance and being and finding a few good mechanics are key. Research is highly recommended before you have any work done. Lots of inflated repair shops so take care.

I think it also comes down to whether or not car enthusiasts are seeking the vehicle to customize it. Most older SUVs aren't going to be as popular as certain sports cars or even sedans because those are the cars people look to buy and customize when cheap. For example, Honda S2000s, Mazda RX-7s, Honda Civic SIs, specific 6th - 7th generation Toyota Celicas all hold good value because they have large communities of people who seek to buy and customize them. Some people buy old SUVs to customize them, but it's not yet popular enough to keep prices high. Now if we're talking vintage SUVs that are already remodeled, that's a different story.
Since I've already done this with 2 sport coupes and own a 2021 WRX STI, I'm looking to buy a 2006 - 2010 Range Rover Sport and customize it as well. I have just recently learned it has a pretty nice aftermarket, so I'm looking forward to what I come up with. There are some very cool things you can do with these types of SUVs and I believe the more car enthusiasts come to realize that, the higher these prices will increase in the future. That is of course customizing SUVs ever becomes as popular as some other vehicle types...

I think, in my parents' area, folks are really concerned with appearances. You see a lot of people driving prestige brand vehicles; vehicles it would never even occur to me to look at, as I'm not trying to impress anyone with my vehicle. Range Rover is one of those exclusive brands that says "I'm successful" when you see someone driving one. So I think people are so wooed by the brand, and how good it LOOKS, that they don't do their proper research into the technical issues affecting the car.

If you are going to buy one of these used, the best thing you can do is switch to waterless coolant. With waterless coolant, there's no water to cause pressure, so instead of running the coolant system at up to 20 psi, it runs around 1 psi. That means no burst plastic coolant pipes, no bad water pump seals, no bad radiators (they have 3: one for coolant, one for engine oil, and one for transmission oil). That will knock out about 50% of the problems with these cars, and when the coolant system fails, you usually lose the engine, which costs a min of $20K to replace with a reman at an indy, or around $40-50K at the dealer.

All those Range Rovers, Land Rovers, Jaguars, BMW's, VW's, Audi's and Mercedes are big piles of junk.

My parents have been driving a Range Rover and Land Rover since 2002 and NEVER had an issues. Perhaps buyers should maintain their vehicles better? Take care of your ride and your ride will take care of you.

So far, the Range Rover SVR Carbon Editions 2021/2022 (fully loaded) are not taking much of a hit in the resale market, and holding strong valuations. This is probably because of the fact that the model IS in fact a legitimate high performance SUV. Secondly, they were only made in limited quantities. The 2021/2022 SVRs are real performance beasts, which may end up becoming collectible in that Land Rover has discontinued the supercharged engine for the 2023 SVR's twin turbo engine.

To be fair, most but not all of those used ones were most likely owned by people who couldn’t afford them in the first place. Ya they are spending to have service done at a shop. But to my point most people want to look rich and buy one. Never service or maintain them, then trade them in.

Wife was in the market for the new Defender 90, no stock in the DC metro area. Sales guy said there would be a market adjustment to MSRP. He could not guarantee the amount at time of delivery, $5K now maybe more in 3 months when delivered. Glad I convinced her to forget it.
