Hello, fellow Emira owner here. I was just reading the manual and found out that the front usb is charge only. If you want charge and data, say for carplay or android auto, you need to use any of the two usb ports in the armest storage area.
Agree with the steering wheel quirkiness. If you've had muscle memory doing a 3 point turn with a circle steering wheel, there are moments where your hand would go a certain place expecting a steering wheel there but it's not. So I've had to reprogram my brain to drive it like I'm at the track, hands at 9 and 3 position and full 180 degree turns before letting go of the wheel.
Slow speed driving is definitely pretty enjoyable with this car, especially having power like this with naturally aspirated engine-like responsiveness. Since I'm also still in my break in period, I've had to slow down and speed up when driving on the highway to vary my RPM's and I'm pretty much doing pulls from 65-80 all the time.
I hate that there's incredibly limited aftermarket for stuff like floor mats or wheels. Tried contacting tuxmat and they basically said no.
I was also at an even earlier with Greg from Greg's auto parts, one of the few places that do stock emira parts. He had a 3rd cat delete, valve controller, titanium exhaust and eventuri intake and it made for a completely different sound. Stock sounds great, but his setup was a different kind of great.

The small details are exactly what we need! People might just care about the driving if they lease one for a few months, but a different story if you decide to keep a car for years. People needed to decide if they can accept the small minor detail issues, otherwise, the ownership experience will be ruined. Very helpful video. It’s not a Porsche, it’s something special, but also a lot more to consider

Good video. I've had my Emira 3 months and here are the things I found that are minor annoyances/issues. Overall though, really like the car and it gets tons of attention.
    1) Carplay only automatically connects half the time for me. Sometimes it does, others it doesn't.
    2) No Satellite radio. Definitely should have that in a $100k car.
    3) Had to get the HVAC fan resistor replaced
    4) Got a check engine on the EVAP canister and replacement parts will take a couple months. Does not affect driving though
    5) Floor mats are not good. They should extend further as you mention. They catch my clutch heel on some shoes I wear, so I trimmed the mat
    6) I think the exhaust is pretty decent, won't change it
    7) KEF audio is undersized and disappointing.
    8) Wish it would stay in the driving mode I want when you start back up again.

I just bought this car, same color, same interior. I think the Emira is less cluttered than the Porsche. My biggest problem is the uselessness of the cup holders. You really can't shift at all with a drink in the forward-most cup holder. But I love the driving experience, the look, the sound is decent and the pedal placement really works for me.

I really liked how you broke this video down. I’m a driver like you; I want to be able to push a vehicle hard around town and have a bit of rawness to my car. This is why I chose a miata ND over a cayman s.

Same here. Had about $100,000 budget for my next sports car, and my co-workers cannot understand why I chose an ND2 in 2020. I’ve put about $10,000 worth of performance modifications, and I think I appreciate the car more every time I drive it. Most addictive car I’ve ever owned. And I cross shopped a Boxster and Cayman.
A friend joked that I was trying to modify it into being a Porsche, and I had to explain that I could buy a Porsche; I was trying to modify it into being a Lotus.
I’ll be getting an Emira very soon, but I will be keeping the ND2 for my daily.

@@jubbalandcars its the lack of 6cyl, the the regular Caymans and boxsters are still amazing cars, and tons of fun but don't have the soul or passion the 6cyl cars have. My FE1 Emira came in, but due to shady dealers, I never took delivery, and have my BGTS 4.0 arriving in a few months.

    • @kgm5330
      @kgm5330 Před měsícem

      @@Weaselbuck In no particular order:
      1) Exchanged the OEM shock tower brace for the Mazdaspeed brace. I did this in prep to have adjustable coil overs. The OEMs are not open at the top. This turned out to be unnecessary since I chose against coil overs.
      2) Goodwin Racing’s coil and bump stop set up for the GT RF street /track configuration. This is a great set up for both street and amateur racing or timed trials. I didn’t want anything too tightly sprung for street use. A pavement irregularity at an apex can be very unpleasant. The double wishbones are great for the street, but pure track springs can ruin the magic.
My experience with Miata’s and coil overs has been that it takes a lot of trial and error to get the set up right, and you can easily make the car worse.
3). Dampers: Swapped ORM Bilstein B6s for B8s. Helpful, but in retrospect probably not essential.
      3) Goodwin Racing front and rear sway bars. These are great. Fit MUCH better than the weird OEM sway bars. Probably most important switch. Rear is easy do it yourself. Front is for professionals and more expensive than the equipment, but worth it. Goodwin has it all figured out for you.
4). Garage line spacers. 15 mm front, 20 mm rear. Don’t mess this up or you’ll damage your front liners.
5). Aggressive street alignment. I think I went with Flying Miatas specs, but they were very similar to GER’s
      6) Bridgestone and Continentals have been equally good.
That’s pretty much it. The forums, GWR and Flying Miata have done all the hard work. Go with something the pros have worked out. This is my 4th Miata, and it’s easy to screw them up trying to make them better.
380,000+ miles on 4 Miatas, 150,000+ on an NA1 and NC2 each. Mostly routine maintenance, no major breakdowns or expenses on any of them. I replaced tops and ignition wires at 150,000 on the NC2.
Have 30,000 on ND2, street/track and daily. No repairs, seems to run better every time I drive it. Wife likes the changes on ride comfort except the cat back replacement with GWR’s Super Q pipe and muffler. The sound is MUCH MUCH better than stock, but it is louder. Wife’s getting used to it.
NCs sound better stock than NDs IMO.

I’m really curious to see how the car responds when really pushed especially at the track. Will the brakes hold up? How will the transmission respond to hurried shifts? Can it handle a 20 minute session or will it overheat and need mods? And how does all that compare with the Cayman GTS.

The most relevant point you made was that the cayman is boring driven slow. Even in the canyons it’s too clinical for me. Only fun on track.

I had a 2011 Lotus Elise R, 2014 Evora NA, 2017 Evora 400 and 2021 Evora GT...I was going to get the Emira until I drove it. It is not worth it when coming from lighter and more powerful Lotus cars. So, I got me a Huracan RWD

Could go down in history as one of the most beautiful cars ever made, Lotus really outdid themselves.
    Tuxmat for your problem?

Tuxmat doesn’t make mats for any Lotus currently

I must be the only one who doesnt like this car. The outside looks pretty and thats it. This car feels dated in every other aspect. The V6 tone is numbed down, the specs are "slow". At least if you go for a Lotus go for the raw deal and get an Exige. Now thats a thrill. ps: i owned a Lotus Elise, and probably that car was all the fun i needed. Go kart feel all the way -.- My next car will probably be a boxster, just a comfy highway cruiser 😎

@@shakethedrummer2351 Actually i bought a mazda Mx5 ND3. I have looked at a GR86 but didnt like the in-car engine sound and the engine is maybe less reliable? Handling and practicallity are big plusses. Still went for an Mx5 because of the higher fun factor in weekends. Well i almost drive it every day and my daily driver is collecting dust 😂

Pretty sure all of these annoying things that you complain about would drive me completely nuts over time and it would be one more love-hate lotus ownership experience 🙃
    Also, move to Utah
Have tuxmats make you some floor mats

You mentioned that it wasn’t very fun to drive GR86 on congested roads. Is it the case with Miata as well? How engaging and fun is it on mildly congested roads? From the internet I have got the input that Miata is more fun than GR86, even if it’s only a tad bit more.
