- Video tutorial on how to replace the rear cup holder in your BMW E39. In this video I have used an aftermarket replacement rather than an OEM part. The aftermarket manufacture of this cup hold is made by JL Germany. This particular tutorial was done on a 1997 BMW 540i E39.

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-standard/flat screwdriver
-electrical tape
-replacement cup holder
Procedure:
-first start by opening the cup holder
-if you can't open it, use a standard screwdriver with electrical tape wrapped on the tip to protect the plastic
-if you were able to open the cup holder, firmly hold onto it and pull out, wiggling it gently if needed
-if you can't open it, using the standard screwdriver, pry around the outside edges and slowly work the cup hold out
-the top tabs may catch, so try to direct the bottom out first
-once remove, if you would like to clean inside the cavity
-to install the new cup holder, place it in the opening
-trying to direct the top portion in first so the tabs do no cause any problems
-push the face of the cup holder in firmly until it is flush with the surround areas

i own euro model car and it doesnt have rear cup holders.... i was wondering if anyone did diy on modifying that space or cup holders to have 2 usb chargers in there for rear passangers, that would be epic.
Hey man I like the chanel and have liked and subscribed.
I like the information. Would you happen to have any ideas on how to replace the tab on the top of the rear window side curtains that doesn't involve buying a new one. The tab that you would pull up the side curtain with on mine is gone. Other than that, the side curtain rolls up and down fine. But I have to dig it up with a pick to get to it.
Might be able to purchase a replacement tab if it is a separate component or use a high quality plastic adhesive to reattach the broken piece. Unfortunately the side window shades are very rare in my market where I live, I've actually never even seen the side window curtains in person on any BMW.
Cup holders for the back was never an option in Germany
You have a rear storage slot, right?
i have a storage slot in mine 530D stv, and i think i can replace it with a cup holder ?
I know its late but my e39 has it and im from sweden
I am sorry but my e39 dont have cup holder on the back.
V.P V same
Same mine
think you can still take the holder out and put cup holder in if im not wrong
Where can i buy it?
V.P V These particular cup holders came from Bavauto.com. I've heard of Euro spec cars only coming with the rear storage tray instead and it's a direct swap between the two as far as I know.
