- Welcome Shiny, Crafty people! Tim Totten here with sewing projects you can do yourself!
This ridiculously-easy project is part of my ongoing series where we take a store-bought quilt and turn it into easy-to-make projects. Many of these projects are home dec items or great gifts for family and friends.
Years ago, you could find attractive toaster covers all over the place. But today, toasters are available in so many sizes and configurations that finding a cozy is almost impossible! And don't even try to find a pretty cover for any of your other countertop appliances!
Using a store-bought quilt means that for just a few dollars, you can have a customized appliance cover that matches the rest of your decor and fits exactly the way you want!
To make this easy "toaster cozy", you'll need the following:
1 Store-bought quilt (I used a king-size Walmart quilt that cost $29.95 and this is the second project we're getting out of it!)
Scissors or rotary cutter
Straight edge or cutting grid
Binding (either store-bought, or fabric to make it)
Thread
Sewing Machine
The next videos in the series of Store-Bought Quilt Hacks will cover bread baskets, casserole dish covers, runners, storage cases, and more!

Thank-You so ,much for your detailed tutorial. I took my toaster cover apart yesterday, so I have the pattern, but wasn't sure how to put new cover together. You rescued me from making many mistakes. You are appreciated.
I’m glad to help!

Love your work!! Great video!!
You make everything look easy Tina Holloway
Thank You so much for this video. I will follow this video as I need to make a popcorn machine cover. 😊
You are very talented and totally adorbs.
Some of us quilters machine finish binding too. I do especially on quilts for young child and quilts that aren’t going to be judged, but just loved.
Use scrubbing bubble cleaner for your toilet you mentioned, I do it all the time and it keeps my toilet sanitary.
weird topic for sewing but each to his own, LOL
This was such a cool idea!!!! I really enjoyed your tutorial!!!! You are quite the talented person!!! I subscribed to see more !!!
Thanks!!
Thank you very much your video covered everything. I watched about 10 videos from other people and they didn't cover the measurements and the rounding of the corners.
I love it your a cool guy
You did a wonderful job on this ! 😊
I don't have a serger so learning the tip about how to do it on a regular sewing machine is just what I needed! Especially since I can never get that 'zigzag stitch method' to work out right (probably just me and I'm new to sewing so there is that lol).
You never disappoint. You are a keeper!
Thanks!
I watched this video multiple times before starting my project. I was asked to make an "Air Fryer" cover for a friend. This was the same concept. It turned out fairly well for my first time with the headache being only while doing the binding "around the round corners". I believe if I have to make more covers, I will get better at it AND I will use this video for help. Thank you Tim.
Absolutely LOVE your attitude, your instruction and your calm, easy voice! I too am anxious and impatient, so what I do, to not screw things up due to my racing brain, is adjust my speed slider to slow down when sewing binding. When I actually "see" my nice binding, Only because I slowed waaaay down, then it's all worth the pain the butt binding. Kudos to you for the no nonsense, get to the point, sewing style! Love It!
Hi Timothy, Yours was the best explanation of bias vs bolt give in fabric that I've ever heard. I never thought to use a bed quilt but it's already quilted so you can do the assembly & sewing. Thanks a bunch for the great tutorial. I'll be waiting for the next one. BTW, I love teal too which is in my kitchen.
🧡💜💙💚❤
There's a lot to like In this tutorial. The binding tips/ colours/ cutting instructions and of course the humour
Thank you so much!
Love the idea of using a store bought quilt! Very clever. Good instructions too. Thanks so much.
You make the binding process look much less daunting for me, thank you. I love the "common thread"! You are a delight to learn from. ❤
Thank you! What a nice compliment!!
That appliance cozy and the placemats are gorgeous Tim. Thanks for the great idea!
You are my spirit animal! I LOVE everything about these things being made out of store bought quilts!!
Beautiful,
Love your videos! Thank you so much!!! Could you do a video on a kitchen-aid mixer or an Instant pot cover? Pretty please? 😊
Thank you. I really enjoy watching your posts as I’m learning to sew by picking up some online tips. You do explain very nicely and it’s just more entertaining listening to the little stories about yourself. Keep posting 😃
Thank you for the kind words!
This was great, thanks for this. I am going to make one. Roger
I'm very happy that am learning so many things from you; I've already made a few things for daughter, my friend's and myself: heating pad, bread basket, cosmetic bag, and masks. Thank you Tim for sharing your knowledge; stay safe 🙏🙏🙏
Love your teaching method, and your sense of humor!! Very easy to understand your instructions!! Thank you!
Gorgeous fabric for your appliances TFS
Love your work....thank you
You are awesome. Wonderful tutorial.

So glad i I found you. New sewist here and love your videos.
You have some great ideas! Love to listen to your instructions!
Where did you get your quilt from? Sure is beautiful. You got me wanting to make covers for all my kitchen appliances. Thank you so much ! You’re such a great teacher! God bless you!
This quilt came from Walmart. It is still available both in stores and online. Thank you for your kind words!
Your stuff is soooooo great!!! I love relatively short/economical projects - keep 'em coming! Thank you! :-)
Too cute! I love the colors in this quilt!
What sewing machine model do you have? You are so talented and a great instructor! Looking forward to more of your videos!
Way cool. Good job.
I purchased 2 store bought quilts, used it to make a housecoat plus a cover for my sewing machine and my serger! Come on sewing people, what else have you made with a quilt?
A housecoat?!? I love it!!!
I used store bought quilts and made seat covers for my truck. My cousin saw them and wants some for his truck. I'll make them, but he is going to have to wait until the weather gets warmer. It is too cold to work outside right now.
I have poor eyesight. Rounded corners are impossible for me. All of the rest is doable. If I leave them square, how bad would it look? LOVING YOUR SITE!!!
I don’t think it would look bad. It’s all to your taste. Enjoy!
Very clever, and beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome!
Great idea I love that quilt design! You did a great job! 👏🏻👏🏻Merry Christmas!
I was looking online to buy a pre-made cover for a non-standard sized appliance and nada. Then I found your video and it's exactly what I needed. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise! When you're explaining your techniques and pointing out tips on what to watch out for, you are reading my mind! And I'm a huge fan of tiny homes and don't like to do housework either, if only my significant other felt the same way :) Any recommendations on where I can find nice pre-quilted fabrics like the one you used here, rather than an entire quilt? My small projects don't need that much fabric.
Would also make a great iPad cover or laptop cover! Great ideas!!
😊😊😊 V e r y n i c e
Great turorial, especially on binding. I see you also made placemats to match. Could get some mug cozies out of leftovers, too?
Love the this and your tutorials. Can you use this same method for any appliance like a kitchen aid mixer?
Love your video, first for me. where did you get rotory cutter, looks heavy duty.
I typically use Olfa rotary cutters.
I need to know what seam guide you are using. I haven't seen one like that in my searches.
Thank you for explaining things so simply. Love that iron you have. Where did you get it and what brand is it?
It’s a steam press from Homever. I bought it on Amazon.
You make sewing a bit more approachable! What sewing machine brand / model are you using ?
It’s a Janome 1600p
Hi 👋 I would like and if you don't mind for you to show us how to make a cover for a nuwave air fryer Brio 15.5Q, please.
What type of straight pins are you using ?
You lived in an rv/tiny house? I want to buy a shuttle bus and renovate it to a tiny home and do quilts and crafts in it. DO you have any videos of yours?????????
I don’t have any videos. It’s been a few years.
What size quilt are you using for all these projects?
Great idea. Thank you. BTW, I don't mind if you run over pins with your machine. After all, it's YOUR machine. I won't feel badly if you knock it out of time and break a needle. 😊
Lol. I appreciate that! I do try to set a good example though. It’s an old habit that is hard to break.
@@timothytotten9409 Timothy, I'm so glad you took my comment as a joke. After I wrote and sent it I began to worry that you might take it as a derogatory comment. It wasn't meant to be mean. Thank you for being so easy going and I do enjoy your great ideas. You are an especially good teacher too.
What make and model sewing machine are you using? I'm looking to invest in one for my personal use.
It’s a Janome 1600P. I have a review video for it on this channel.
What about using the overcast foot and overcast stitch if the machine has it? Or your line inside and then zigzag?
I was wondering the same. Did he use just a straight stitch?
If your machine has it, you should use it. My semi-industrial machines are straight-stitch only.
@@brookecooley751 He drew a line a little farther out than he needed, then he sewed just inside the line with the straight stitch not on the line, but a little on the inside away from the open edge, then cut it on the outside of the line a little away from it. Hope that helps.
@@timothytotten9409Love your machine, and I giggled when I saw the turtle and the bunny rabbit speed selectors!
for a sewing machine could you use like a zip zag stitch on edge? #replay
Do you know the way to make continuous binding?
What part of the world are you from.
I live in Florida in the United States.
