Louis's take is so refreshingly honest from a business perspective. He told things the way they are. Oxygen LTD users cant expect free goodies for ever i.e.one buys an LTD for the current software capabilities and future bug fixes. Oxygen community felt a false moral indignation over a genuine and honest conversation.

I have way more respect for Louis now, he's not afraid to answer all the "tough" questions. Straight up. Respect.

Why Oxygen is not selling addons, new features, libraries of designs...? There is a huge market for those products, and this will produce a lot of money for the eco-system and make a better Oxygen... Please send this message to the Oxygen team!! Sell software based on Oxygen to reach that market that now Elementor fits better. Making easy to build an Oxygen website for low code developers. And not the opposity divide the effort

Very glad I came across this interview. Thanks for doing this. I've used Divi, WPBakery, and Elementor and am impressed with what I've seen in Breakdance so far.

I see oxygen website now has a notice they will change to annual pricing at some point. Do you think this will lead to greater resources allocated to oxygen development?
So they raised cash with oxygen license then rebranded and changed the terms. I've lost respect for the company.
Was in the live stream and as far as I got it, oxygen is for techs and competes to advanced builders like webflow, Breakdance is a more non-tech focused visual builder like elementor
I disagree with this characterisation, they can do whatever they want with their money/business, what's sad to me is that Oxygen seems to be the big loser here as it's basicallly being slowly killed off. :-(
@@AthloneH Yeah that was my initial thoughts. Louis seems cool, i hope he listens to the community and resolves this situation.

Without a repeater, what is the actual working method to do this? I mean, a site with a bunch of custom post types or wants to list things in a sidebar or create little galleries of things or whatever, how do we do our repeaters? Do we create our own purely custom PHP connected with shortcodes? 3rd party plugin like a grid builder? We just not do repeaters, so hopefully Breakdance comes up with some "standard" process for people to make that happen.
I love Webflow and Oxygen , I never understood why it's popularity didn't go through the roof. I get it, they need to make money and wish them success so they can still support Oxygen the alternative would suck if they don't succeed!
Kinda disappointing but the fact that he actually showed up for the interview is encouraging.

you can do repeters in elementor with a free plugin, works great and ahs been around for a few years. Elementor Custom Skin
He doesnt understand his users. He doesnt even know who Kevin Geary is! Much less automatic.css. That's just crazy!

Kadence is great. Don't put all your eggs in 1 basket. I love oxygen but this smells like Grade A bullshit.

@@AIisMyBff I like Kadence. I used it to build a simple site for my wife's business. But customizing Kadence is difficult with either their Gutenberg blocks or Elementor, both of which I am not a fan

i have built 25 oxygen sites and its not for the average wordpress user. Its for people that development websites for clients. I think breakdance will be better than elementor.
Uhhhmmm... Elementor has repeaters via the Anywhere Elementor 3rd party plugin - its freaking awesome
Oxygen can charge for direct support yearly while the builder remains LTD with updates but direct support can be made yearly

I know, that was a little disappointing, it indicated how disconnected Louis is from his own business. I think they should sell Oxygen to a third party as their hearts are no longer in it. A third party who actually believes in Oxygen's future will no doubt do a better job.

I'm not sure if I'm more or less comforted by seeing Louis "in the flesh". Somehow I envisioned this Steve Job's-looking guy - brilliant yet composed. Then...Jerry Garcia.
They took a lot of inspiration from Elementor. It looks like a baby born out of Oxygen & Elementor marriage.
Interesting situation. LTD was a company choice not the user base. If it's a choice between continued development and support of Oxygen or no Oxygen I would pay the annual renewal (as long as it remains unlimited site usage). Maybe an open letter to all current users (30,000 plus quoted in the stream) to introduce a future annual renewal model maybe more constructive.
Louis is preaching to the wrong users with Breakdance as we are not the target audience. If Breakdance gets traction and in a year or two we see 'Breakdance PRO' then I would happily consider it over oxygen.

After listening to this interview I can understand Louis. It must also pay off somehow. Otherwise it makes no sense.
My (three) cents:
- The name itself is not good. As someone said here, Salsa for exemple will be better (avoiding to say Bricks instead of Breakdance;-) And the choice of the yellow!
- It's seems that Breakdance is not directly compatible with vanilla FSE and Gutenberg. Too bad, because there is so much to do to improve directly the current versions of FSE and Gutenberg tools inside Wordpres 6.0 in terms of UX and features. There is Cwicly on Gutenberg but this is more a Builder like Oxygen in term of power. To bad to see that BreakDance can't be the Elementor of Gutenberg.
- If they want to compete with Elementor they must provide a free version
So I like very much the concept and the features of Breakdance but I have great doubts about the realisation and their marketing. It seems that Louis didn't check his project with real users.

Did you actually have your interview with Louis and Kevin?
Since Oxygen is on Angular 1, I know this tech is aging, but can't it update to newer versions of Angular itself? Not talking about a rewrite to another platform, but just increasing Angular version? It's not like Angular itself is obsolete, so why can't it just continue on that platform?
if a 50% commission is too much on a lifetime deal throw a bone 10% commission and pump the price by 10%
a 10% commission would still be great and then would have billions more youtubers pumping the product
and there would be no problem pumping an expansion to oxygen like element 115
should keep pumping oxygen and oxygen plugins or expansions with more resources till dday imo

Louis won't do the same mistake again. He clearly said there won't be any LTD for anyone.
It's free for one year for Oxygen users. We will never do an LTD.

@@JNagy129 It seems the alpha-beta is free to everyone as anyone can visit the website and get it. Additionally it says oxygen owners get a year of Breakdance after 1.0 launches.
I had already moved to bricks , but this really new product solidified it for me. Rip o2
I still love Oxygen, very much, but after this I'm going to take a hard look at Bricks which I purchased 6 months ago but have not really looked it at yet.
Sounds like Louis is selling Webflow, but appreciates the fact that most Oxygen users don't want to spend another penny.
Looks like something that could actually compete with elementor. Its almost as good as elementor and its still in alpha.

I agree, “Breakdance” is just not a great naming choice, and the site color is not good branding. Too similar to Bricks. This will promote confusion for new users and alienation for current Oxygen users/developers/designers.
His house looks big and expensive.
From a person who came over from Adobe Muse and their promises. I tell you Oxygen is dead. Breakdance is more like Webflow but Bricks has already jumped into that space. So Bricks or Breakdance? Bricks is $199.00 LTD. I got the impression that more people were noticing Oxygen and it was growing. Rest in peace Oxygen.
The idea that Bricks has a Repeater (or whatever you want call it), is a huge differentiation from Breakdance. It might be a detail that will cause folks to use Bricks rather than Breakdance.

Agreed, and Bricks is an LTD currently, granted LTD's are not sustainable, but while the LTD is on, it's a no brainer, thereafter specific features will then dictate buyer choices.

As far as I know Angular uses typescript. So, I think the typescript logic is a lie.
It’s like Sofly used LTD pricing on Oxygen to seed fund Breakdance annual pricing to make a shit tonne of money. I hate corporatisation, I prefer a loyal community base on the internet. Unfortunately loyal communities can be exploited by greed: look at the downfall of Studio

Business is business, there is an old saying, no profit, no business. Growing a business and increasing profit, is just good sense and in fact the reason we are all in business to start with. In this case it now seems like Oxygen, the first child is being slowly shunned for the new new shiny child. Louis not knowing who Kevin Geary is was very unexpected, he has no idea what's happening in his own business ecoshere.

This Oxy vs Breakdance etc controversy doesn't interest me. All that interests me is the quality, cleanliness and lightness of the generated code. W3C, google speed gtmetrix etc... what about this topic? That's what should appeal to the community, imo.
Ooops. I just searched for that followup stream and realized that it never happened. As a matter of fact, although Jonathan up to the day of this interview had published almost 100 videos & streams about Oxygen, after this video he has never ever published anything again about Oxygen, neither about Breakdance. Same for Kevin Geary. The last view minutes of this interview were a train wreck.
One big disconnect... Need to make money, but won't charge anything on Oxygen. Keep your commitment with your two programmers on Oxygen, who will develop at the same pace, but then hire a third developer to fast-track a bunch of features by offering another LTD.
I really hope that Breakdance builder retains its exclusivity to only work with Oxygen. If it's going to try to follow what Elementor builder or any other builder out there, I don't think it's gonna work. That's my thought. Making similar stuff like any other builder out there sounds like it's making you no different than a copycat. 🤔 Correct me if I'm wrong.
I think it mainly competes with bricks and that seems to be the purpose behind it.
I mean Louis's answer to every question regarding problems with adding new features into Oxyen is sucking architecture. If you can't add any new features, it means you ain't going to compete with the likes of Elementor & Bricks which leads to the end of Oxygen. That is probably why he rather chose to build a new product. When I first heard about Oxygen, I thought it would make use of its speed to give Elementor a tough time. That's hindered by Oxygen's lack of progress.

I look at the video and I'm very sad. I think if they had just rename the existing Oxygen to Oxygen Pro and new product Oxygen something else with Oxygen and explain is it for another type customer, the new product will be more accepted by the community, but not another name. What the fuck! It's really bad marketing.
Jonathan's sound is 5/5 but Louis' sound is 1/5. Very hard to follow or nonintelligible.
So instead of fixing Oxygen for everyone that has bet on that they bring a new product?!! So what does this say to rest of us? What is more annoying is they are adding features in breakdance that are not in Oxygen....?!!!
