My most favorite song ever by my favorite singer ever
OMG!! Donna Summers the Queen of Disco in the upper 70's. Love this Queen! So good!
Donna Summer was Pop Music's first female Mega Star, the most commercially successful female artist of the 70s. She sold millions worldwide and push the boundaries by crossing into multiple genres. She is only artist to be nominated for a Grammy in 5 different genres (at least 3 times each), and the only artist to win a Grammy in 4 different genres (R & B, Rock, Gospel & Dance). She was the first female artist and the first black artist, to bring 3 albums to top of the Billboard Charts back to back, they just happened to be 3 multi-platinum selling double albums. She scored 9 consecutive top 5 singles (8 between July 78 - March 80 with Casablanca Records - before switching to Geffen Records). The first female artist to have 2 singles in the top 3, and 2 #1 singles in the top 5 and top 3, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She was the first solo artist to have 3 #1 singles and 5 top 10 and/or 5 top 5 singles in a calendar year (79). She had gold, platinum, double platinum and triple platinum albums along with 10 gold singles (1 million) and 2 platinum (2million) and the first gold maxi-single at the end of the 70s in the US Market. She was a top 10 artist on the worldwide Pop Chars for 4 consecutive year 76-79. The first black female placed in heavy rotation on MTV August 83 (SWHFTM), setting a precedent of 3 consecutive videos in HR, not surpassed until Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation album 89/90. She was named the "Diva De Tutti Dive" by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, meaning the first true diva of the modern pop era. One of the greatest voices of our time. Mary j Blige and Lenny Kravitz called her a game changer. She was more than just a big music star, her music change the face of pop music forever, with it's audacious vocal delivery and forward thinking. Dive in Dani there is plenty more to listen too. Her early hits Love to Love You Baby and I Feel Love were ground breaking, but from Last Dance to (Mac Arthur Park, Heaven Knows, Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, Dim All the Lights, No More Tears (duet with Barbra Streisand)) On The Radio, those 18-19 months, were probably the hottest streak in the history of the Billboard Hot 100.
A true metaphoric song relating to love relationship
❤❤❤
I saw Donna sing MacArthur Park live in 2011 and she hit hit every note and then some and she was dying. Amazing to be able to sound maybe even better 45 years later. Truly one of the greatest singers of all time, she had the natural talent and a skill to sing any type of music anywhere at anytime and acapella. She is the only artist to have Grammy awards in 5 different genres of music, from Rock to Dance. Donna Summer's name should be mentioned in every conversation about great female singers. Flawless. Pitch perfect. Never a misfire, she made it all look effortless. Donna one of the most powerful, and beautiful singers.
In 2011 she was already battling lung cancer but her voice did not sound like it.
She had an amazing voice. The true queen of disco.
Her stage presence is awesome. She owns every moment of this performance. I'm likely repeating others here, but the song was written by a guy named Jimmy Webb who wrote some of the best music of the '60's and early 70's. You already know some of his songs whether you realize it or not!
This was an incredible performance by the Queen Of Disco which is what she was known as at the time. Her other 1978 song "Last Dance" is another great disco song to check out sometime and was popular back in the day.👍❤🎧
In addition, her OTHER other song from 1978: "Heaven Knows". I'd also suggest her final big hit: "This Time I Know It's for Real".
Great show as always. Her songs could put everybody on the dance floor at the disco.Thanks.
Queen of Disco, forever! RIP Donna
This remember me of my young teenager years. Thank you Dani ❗❗❗❗🤗🤗🤗
😊 she was big. The original by Richard Harris late 60s also great. Glen Campbell does a killer version with Boston Pops in the 70s
The cake reference is a metaphor for a relationship ending and not being able to reconcile again.
Thank you for doing this ❤
It’s not a jumpsuit though
Donna summer is "Brilliant" With out a shadow of "Doubt"...The Queen of Disco. You should also listen to Let me in by the Osmonds.
Funny thing. Besides the genious of Donna and Giorgo. Where are the covers of this great peace of music?
For Thursday, review treat me nice, from jailhouse rock
I do so appreciate your reaction. I am majorly disappointed that we never properly connected on your Patreon so that I could have you react to some of my favorite Grace VanderWaal performances.
Donna Summer was a great vocalist, every bit as good as Whitney Houston but she was unfortunately tagged with the “queen of disco” tag which messed up her career when the disco craze was over. The truth is she could sing anything. She had that little girl speaking voice and that powerful singing voice.
I remember her saying essentially "WHERE were the people who WERE Interested in Me in my later years?"
The sad truth is Whitney Houston was not every bit as good as Donna Summer.
@@murraysmither7996 Oh my, I disagree. Whitney at her peak was an incredible singer. She'd definitely be on my Mount Rushmore of female vocalists. They both would along with Aretha and Barbara
As much as I like this, and I really do, the Richard Harris version shall always be my favourite.
Check out the original by Richard Harris a British film and stage actor, who brings the poetry of this Jimmy Webb classic to life
Maynard Ferguson does an incredible instrumental version of this. You ought to check it out.
Richard Harris, the actor who played Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, did a classic and bizarre version of this song!
